“I’m so sorry...I didn’t...” I looked up to see who it was...professor Adrian? Everyday a new kind of bad luck...maybe I really am an unlucky brat. I’m in so much trouble now... “I’m so sorry sir Adrian” “It’s Alright...” “I’m...” I stuttered as I looked up at him... “I said it’s ok Theo, where are you headed?” Adrian asked looking at me... he was a bit taller than me from up close “Class...” “Ok then...have a nice day...” That was the shortest discussion I’ve ever had with anybody...I just rushed past him and to my class before Blake would spot me talking to his uncle... The class went by faster than expected, without Blake bothering me...that was strange, so I had to ask around... not like I cared though but a good part of me wanted to be sure he was fine...I learnt from one of our course mates that he fell sick and stayed home for the day and I was relieved... both because he didn’t bother me today and also because he was fine and at least alive... It was finally time to go home but I wasn’t ready to face that uncle of mine... he’s a pain in the ass...while walking home a girl ran into me knocking me over... “I’m so sorry...I had my earpiece on...I wasn’t looking where I was heading” She stuttered as she hurriedly picked some of my books from the ground... “It’s ok... it’s my fault for not looking where I was going” We both finally finished picking up the books then she turned to me... “You seem like a nice guy... what’s your name?” “Theo...” I said in a low tone “Nice name...my name’s Lyla...Hope I see you again soon at least not exactly in this situation again...” “Thanks, and I hope to see you again too...” She waved and smiled warmly before running off... I walked back home but didn’t go up stairs yet... I wasn’t ready to face him yet...I came back down and just strolled round the neighbour till evening then I climbed the ladder close to the building and up to my room... I was so exhausted from walking all day, so I just needed the sleep and get my mind off things... Adrian’s POV “Malachi?” “Yes boss...” “What are the stats on our mystery man?” “He’s not yet found boss...” “Have you put out the fliers and banners yet... for the job vacancy?” I asked without looking up from the documents in my hand. "Yes," Malachi answered immediately. "Silas is already putting up the flyers around the city." "Every district?" "Yes." "The business centres?" "Done." "The residential areas?" "He started there a few minutes ago." "Good...If anyone calls..." "We'll notify you immediately." "Good...And Malachi..." "Yes, Boss?" "If you hear anything unusual..." "I'll report it." "Good." --- A few minutes later...After Malachi’s report I drove back to my jewellery company "Boss is here." One of the securities whispered to the other as he stands up straight "Hurry...Get to your desks." "Move." "Good morning_ sir." The receptionist stuttered as I walked past her I just took the elevator up to my office and sat at my desk thinking for some time I pulled the nearest file toward myself...flipped through the pages. ‘Profits increased...New suppliers approved...Sales exceeded projections...Not bad...This branch is improving too.’ For a moment, I was satisfied... until I remembered that guy is still roaming around freely "...Still no sign of you." I murmured as my fingers tightened around the file..."I've searched every place...I know you're alive." I reached for my phone... it was already 7:00 AM...No missed calls...No new messages. "No applicants?" I refreshed the page a couple of times but still nothing I sighed in annoyance as I murmured...’What is taking so long?’ I dropped the phone back onto the desk...leaned back and stared lazily at the ceiling...’Someone has to show up...’ --- Theo's POV The alarm beeped loudly once it was 7:30AM and I had to leave the bed no matter how tired I felt... ‘7:30 Already?’ I slapped the alarm in annoyance until it stopped ringing. ‘It's Saturday...’ I remembered...almost laying back down. ‘No.’ I quickly got out of bed. ‘If I sleep again, that's the end of my morning.’ I quietly sneaked into the bathroom...took my bath and hurriedly got dressed for my morning jog ‘Morning walk first.’ I made sure I was very quiet as I sneaked outside the door so my uncle doesn’t wake up ‘This feels nice.’ I walked toward the nearby park...people jogged past me...some walked their dogs...others exercised. As I left the park and started heading back, something caught my attention...a flyer pasted on one of the street poles... ‘Hmm’ I walked a bit closer to see what was written on it... ‘A jewellery company?’ I looked closer...my eyesight was still blurry because I haven’t gotten the glasses for myself... With the little letters I could see, I slowly put together the letters and it read... VACANCY AVAILABLE NOW HIRING ‘No way...They're really employing people." I scanned through the flyer to check for the requirements. ‘I qualify...I actually qualify...This could be it.’ I immediately brought out my phone and took a picture of the flyer. ‘Just in case.’ I saved the number written on the flyer, beneath the advertisement and hurried back home. I stood in front of the building but Instead of going upstairs, I sat on the staircase and opened the photo again. ‘Please let this be real.’ then I finally dialled the number I saved on my phone. It rang for a couple of minutes then someone finally answered. "Hello." "Good morning." I replied nervously... "Good morning," the man responded. "I found one of your flyers on the street." "Yes?" "I'd like to apply for the job." The man over the line kept quite for some time before he finally responded... his voice sounded familiar somehow...but I couldn't place it. "What position are you applying for?" The man finally said... "Any available one." "Do you have previous experience?" "A little." "What kind?" "I've worked with customers before." "I see." I swallowed nervously hoping and praying he accept me then I finally gathered up the courage to ask again... "So... is the position still available?" "Yes." "Really?" "Yes." "Oh, thank goodness." "What's your name?" The man asked "Theo." "Theo..." "Phone number?" “The one I’m using right now to call” "Alright." "So... what happens now?" "We'll review your application." "Will there be an interview?" "Yes." "When?" "We'll get back to you in a couple of hours." "Okay." "If you're selected, someone will contact you." "Thank you." "You're welcome." Then I ended the call...a huge smile spread across my face. "Finally...I finally got a job! I won't mess this opportunity up." I stood at the staircase, slipped my phone into my pocket, and walked up to my room... uncle was still asleep when I entered...THEO"I'm so sorry. I didn't see anything... I was about to leave." I begged with a shaky voice as the hand gripping my shoulder tightened... "Please..."I didn't even know who I was begging. I had only come here because of work; I wasn't supposed to be anywhere near whatever was happening behind those boxes, but now I was trapped with no idea what would happen to me...then I heard footsteps approaching...slow and heavy, growing louder with every step as my heart began pounding when a familiar voice finally broke through the silence..."Who is the intruder?" That voice...No. It couldn't be...I swallowed hard and slowly turned my head..."Professor Adrian?" I raised my head slowly to see the boss's face properly then the hand on my shoulder tightened again...What was Professor Adrian doing here? This wasn't his office or the company...The place looked nothing like anywhere I would see him... and the men surrounding me certainly didn't look like employees...They looked danger
THEO"What was all that about? Was he watching me or something?" I wondered as I walked back toward my desk, still thinking about the strange way my boss had been acting...just because I talked to a girlI dropped into my chair and glanced at the design brief sitting beside my laptop..."And these designs have to be ready by tomorrow?" I muttered. "What exactly am I supposed to come up with by tomorrow?" I murmured to myself as I stared at the blank screen for several seconds before sighing. There was no point complaining about it. If I wanted to prove that I deserved the job, I had to get the work done....I opened the files I'd been given and started working through the design piece by piece. At first, everything looked impossible... Every idea I came up with seemed either too simple or completely different from what had been requested."Come on, Theo," I whispered. "Think."I sketched a few rough concepts, deleted them, then started again."This one is terrible...Okay...
THEOI didn't understand what could possibly be so important that he had to call me without any warning, and the urgency in his voice made me feel like I had done something wrong...had I messed something up or did someone probably lay a complain against me?My thoughts were spiralling all over and I couldn’t place a finger on one final thing that could have made him call me so urgently ...I stopped in front of his office door and took a deep breath.“Okay, Theo. Calm down.” I murmured to myself as I gently knocked on his office door...“Come in.” He answered almost immediately...I slowly opened the door and stepped inside.Adrian was sitting behind his desk, staring at his laptop...he didn't even bother to look up at me as I walked in...I stood there for a couple of minutes expecting him to state the reason of his urgency but still nothing from him...I instinctively clenched onto the door handle and decided to speak up... “Sir?” I murmured beneath my breath but there was still no repl
THEO“Traitor... He didn’t even think about talking his boss out of this decision he made” ...I looked back at Professor Adrian's closed office door...maybe I should go back in there...should I knock...maybe I should explain that he had clearly made a mistake...I just took one step toward the office then stopped.No...This was my first real job...I couldn't walk back in there five minutes after being hired and tell my boss I couldn't do it...that would probably be the fastest way to lose the job...I sighed as I dragged my chair from under the table where I was supposed to sit...“Okay, Theo.” I murmured as I straightened my shirt... “You can do this.” Although I said it with so much confidence, but I wasn't convincing to myself at the very least...I walked over to the table Malachi had arranged for me... a computer sat neatly in front of the chair, along with a notebook, a few pens and a small stack of documents.I pulled out the chair and sat down...stared at the computer for a cou
THEO I rushed towards the big door at the company when I finally got there...still trying to catch my breath...Today was officially my first day at work and Malachi had already called me twice at school reminding me not to be late...I quickly adjusted the strap of my bag and looked around the large reception area...Everyone were on their various laptops typing like their lives depended on it... “Wow” I murmured under my breath...Employees moved around quickly, carrying files and talking among themselves. I swallowed hard and headed toward the staircaseJust as I reached the first step, I heard a familiar voice behind me... “Theo.” I turned around immediately and Malachi was standing a few feet away.“Good evening Sir...” I greeted.“You're already heading upstairs?”“Yes, sir. I thought I was supposed to report upstairs.”“You are.” He nodded toward the stairs. “Come on. I'll show you your desk.”“Oh. Thank you, sir.” I said as I followed him upstairs quietly...for some reason... e
THEO“Theo?” I heard my name being called, but I didn't respond...I was lost in thought...thinking about what I had just witnessed in the dream...was it dejavu? What the heck was all that “Theo?...Theo!” I suddenly jolted awake...I blinked several times and looked around the cafeteria, completely disoriented...a girl standing beside my table stared at me with a worried expression...“Theo, are you okay?” She asked as I quickly sat up straighter before looking up at her...“Yeah. Yeah, I'm fine.”She raised an eyebrow...“You don't look fine”“I said I'm fine.” I lashed out unintendedly...I could tell she was scared because she immediately took a small step back...“Okay… I was just asking.”“I’m truly sorry...I didn’t mean to shout at you...” I apologized as I rubbed my face and looked down at my empty plate.I couldn't believe what I had just dreamed about some minutes ago...Why the heck had I dreamed about Professor Adrian like that? It made absolutely no sense...“Nope. I'm not thi
