CHAPTER 30: THE UNEXPECTED VISITOR

KIMBERLY:

“Can I come in, Kim? Please?”

That was Barbra at the door begging to enter my room. Isn't that unbelievable?

She was dressed in a chic beige jumpsuit and flat heels. Isn't that too glamorous for 8 a.m?

She stood with a perfectly rehearsed smile that didn’t quite reach her eyes.

"Barbra?" My brows drew together. "What do you want?"

“You know, I'm your mother in-law. You should call me Mum,” Barbra stated.

I scoffed before I could stop myself. “My mother in-law is late.”

"Don't be dramatic, Kim. Can I come in?" she asked again, her tone surprisingly... gentle.

I blinked, utterly thrown off. Of all the people I expected to see at my door, she ranked dead last.

"Um... sure," I said, stepping aside reluctantly. I tightened the robe again, not missing the flick of her eyes as they scanned our private living room.

She walked in like she was in charge, sat on the couch and picked up the remote control. I remained standing, definitely alert.

CHAPTER 68: LET'S GO SHOWER TOGETHER KIMBERLY:Damien took my hand as we headed to our chambers upstairs. Everyone seemed to be in their rooms. Not even grandma Evelyn who loved to watch late hour news was in the living room.As we stepped into our sitting room, Damien set the takeout bag on the desk and began unpacking it while I slipped off my heels, letting them fall to the side of the entryway.“You okay?” he asked, glancing over his shoulder as he removed the foil from the truffle pasta.“Yeah,” I said with a soft smile. “Just tired. But good tired.”He walked over and brushed a strand of hair from my face. “Then let’s make tonight a little easier.”He took my hand and led me to our bedroom. He helped me undress and took off his own clothes. I stared at him, wondering what he was doing. He didn't say a word. Just smirked. “Let's go wash up.”“Together?” I could feel my cheeks turning a darker shade of red.His smirk deepened. “Of course. We're married. That's what married peopl

  • TRADING MY EX FOR HIS STEP BROTHER    BUMPING INTO DAMIEN'S EX

CHAPTER 67: BUMPING INTO DAMIEN'S EXKIMBERLY:I stared out the window as Damien drove us through the heart of the city. It was around 5:pm and a lot of people were hurrying home from work. So the traffic was a bit busy.I could smell the buttery aroma of truffle pasta wafting up from the paper bag on my lap. We had bought that on our way.We stopped by Le Marché, a restaurant that only the elite could pronounce, let alone afford.“I’m starving already,” I murmured, resting my head against the seat.Damien glanced over and smirked. “I thought the chicken satay was calling your name.”I chuckled. “It was. It still is.”We parked by the side and got out to grab our takeout. I had just fixed a loose strand of hair behind my ear when the restaurant door swung open. And then a girl appeared. She was tall, blonde, a black bodycon dress hugging every curve like it was sewn into her skin. She was wearing those blood-red Louboutins that clicked in that annoyingly confident way. Damien hadn’t s

  • TRADING MY EX FOR HIS STEP BROTHER    YOU OWE ME MORE THAN A KISS

CHAPTER 66: YOU OWE ME MORE THAN A KISS DAMIEN:I was just about to dial Kim's number when I heard a soft knock at the door. I didn't hesitate to respond."Come in," I called.Kim stepped in, looking radiant as always, even in her simple cream blouse and fitted navy pencil skirt. Her presence lifted the remaining tension from my chest. She shut the door quietly behind her and walked toward me, a curious expression on her face."You look upset. Who annoyed my baby?" she asked.I couldn't help but smile. Kim has really loosened up a lot. This was the first time she called me her baby since we got married. “Thornhill was here,” I responded.“Oh. And he left that look on your face, didn't he?” she said as she stepped closer.I nodded and gestured for her to sit. “Yeah. Thornhill came here thinking he could do damage control. He thinks he's smart enough to play on my intelligence.”She sat on the edge of my desk, close enough for her knee to touch mine. “And?”I pulled open my drawer and

  • TRADING MY EX FOR HIS STEP BROTHER    GETTING BACK THE ORIGINAL WILL

CHAPTER 65: GETTING BACK THE ORIGINAL WILL.DAMIEN :I was halfway through enjoying lunch with Kim when I got a call from my secretary. She said I had a guest. I wasn't expecting anyone that afternoon but it wouldn't hurt to find out who he was and what he wanted. So I excused myself from Kim and went back to my office without looking in the direction of the reception. I sat on my chair and began signing off a set of marketing budgets. Then my assistant called again, this time through the intercom.I picked up. “Hello?”“Sir, a man named Thornhill is here to see you.”I dropped my pen.Thornhill. The lawyer who had presided over Kim's grandmother's estate reading just two days ago. The same man whose hands visibly trembled when I subtly called out the tampered section of the will. The same man who sent two thugs to follow Kim and I, trying to intimidate us into accepting whatever nonsense he presented as Kim's grandmother's will.My jaw tightened."Send him in," I said curtly.Thorn

  • TRADING MY EX FOR HIS STEP BROTHER    A MOMENT WITH DAMIEN

CHAPTER 64: A MOMENT WITH DAMIEN KIMBERLY:The phone rang several times but Damien didn't pick. So I dropped the phone on my desk, feeling a little frustrated and resumed working on my new research project. I was staring at the spreadsheets on my laptop screen, toggling between tabs, when my phone beeped. I glanced at it. It was just a battery signal telling me that my phone battery has gone below 20%. I also noticed the time. Two hours had passed since Roland left my office, and Damien still hadn’t called back. I picked up my phone again and stared at the call log.I had called him three times but all my calls were unanswered.I sighed, dropped the phone gently on the desk, and pushed back my chair. Maybe he was swamped with work. Maybe he was in a meeting. I shouldn't overthink it. But deep down, I knew I just needed to hear his voice, especially after my uncomfortable run-in with Roland.I returned to the report I was compiling—the preliminary market data on luxury fashion segme

  • TRADING MY EX FOR HIS STEP BROTHER    I MISS YOU, KIM

CHAPTER 63: I MISS YOU, KIM KIMBERLY;The new project felt exciting, and I was already forming mental outlines for my proposal. “Kim, can we talk?” Roland stood with one hand tucked into his trouser pocket, the other holding his phone loosely. His eyes caught mine instantly, and I knew he’d been waiting. I didn’t slow my pace. I had no intention of entertaining him. This was the same person who objected to the idea of me working here."Kim," he called, taking a step forward.I didn’t stop. I thought that my attitude would piss him off but he didn't give up."Kimberly, please. Just one minute."I halted reluctantly. The last thing I wanted was a scene in the hallway. And Roland was totally unpredictable."What is it, Roland?" I asked, folding my arms.He took that as an invitation and fell in beside me as I resumed walking."We need to talk. Just five minutes. In your office, maybe?"I sighed, deeply. "Fine. Five minutes. That’s all." It wouldn't kill to listen to whatever trash he
