Chapter 23

Sunday was more monotonous than usual.

I had walked with Benedict, called Mr. Feldmann and studied some pending cases, devoted my best to avoid evoking the flashes of the strange and random scene the night before.

As usual, Cassie found herself throwing the same old childish tantrums and not answering or even viewing my messages.

To hell with her and her immature attitudes. It wasn't as if I cared much, to be honest.

I only saw Helena during the time she had received the plumber who would fix the sink in her house, and after that I didn't see her for the rest of the day. This was unusual for her, as she always played with Benedict every Sunday.

I heard some rustling coming from downstairs and came out of the study, identifying my mother's voice. I went downstairs to find her talking to Mary, who was just listening and nodding. The woman smiled at me and I waved to her, who motioned to go upstairs with her bags.

"Mary!" - I called out to her and she turned around.

"Yes, sir?"
