I walked away from him.

I didn’t even look back.

My steps were heavy, but instead of leaving the mansion completely, I went upstairs. I didn’t know why. Maybe a part of me was still hoping he would come after me, stop me, or even just call my name.

But nothing. No footsteps behind me. No voice.

I told myself I shouldn’t expect anything. I knew from the start he might just let me go. Still, it hurt. It hurt in a way I couldn’t explain.
