"Go along with it?! Vanessa! Do you even realize he did something illegal?! I could go to prison!"

I was stunned, questioning my wife in disbelief. She did not expect me to blow up like this. Tears instantly streamed down her face as she choked out, "B-but if you don't take the blame for Ryan, what will happen to him?! Honey, please! They won't make things hard for you!"

"Please, Lucas! I'll be ruined if I go in!"

Ryan knelt on the ground. His face was pale white, and he bowed a few times as he begged me.

I was so furious I could barely speak. I pointed at the two of them.

"You two just borrowed my car without permission, and now I'm supposed to take the fall?! I will never agree to this! The fingerprints and cameras will prove it wasn't me!"

Vanessa stayed silent for a moment, biting her lip before she spoke. "All the fingerprints in the car have been wiped clean. When Ryan drove your car, he was wearing your jacket and a mask. He dressed like that because he was afraid the butler would recognize him taking the car out."

"So you just drove off with my car like it was nothing, and now you want me to take the blame?! Should I be grateful that you guys didn't completely total the car? Are you guys dreaming?!"

I was so angry I actually laughed. They made it seem like it was just about taking my sports car for a spin, but now, it all seemed planned. Every detail and every escape route had already been prepared.

"Lucas! Is that how you should talk to me?! I'm just trying to discuss this with you! What's with that attitude?!"

Vanessa's anger flared too. I took a deep breath, ready to curse her, but Ryan interrupted.

"Stop arguing! Lucas, Vanessa, I know I've caused too much trouble already. I'll turn myself in now. Please don't fight because of me."

As our fight spiraled out of control, Ryan stayed silent for a long time, then rose to his feet. His face was full of guilt as he headed for the door.

"Ryan! Where are you going?! If Lucas takes the blame, nothing will happen! His family can pull some strings and get him out easily! But if you go to prison, who's going to help you?! What if you spend your whole life behind bars? Your life will be ruined!"

Vanessa exploded, rushing forward to grab his hand. She glanced at me meaningfully as she spoke.

"If he won't take the blame this time, then I guess our marriage doesn't mean much to him. We might as well sign the papers and get divorced!"

"Vanessa, you're threatening me with divorce?!"

I stared at her in disbelief as my heart sank. Then, I caught the look of triumph in Ryan's eyes, and I snapped.

"What the hell is that look supposed to mean?!"

I lost control. I grabbed Ryan by the collar and punched him. He did not expect the sudden attack and cried out, clutching his face.

"Lucas! Stop hitting me!"

"Don't move! Nobody moves! Police!"

As I slammed Ryan to the ground, Vanessa screamed. She tried to stop me a few times but froze at my glare. At that moment, the police arrived and restrained me.

"Mr. Zane, you are currently suspected of a hit-and-run. Please come with us to the station for the investigation."

They pinned me to the ground as I struggled desperately.

"It wasn't me! I didn't drive the car! Ryan stole it!"

"Whether or not you drove the car will be determined after further investigation by our department! You must come with us now!"

No matter what I said, they would not listen. From the evidence so far, everything pointed to me as the prime suspect.

Vanessa and Ryan suddenly turned into righteous accusers. My own wife pointed at me as her voice grew certain.

"Officer, it was him! He hit someone and ran!"

"That's right! I saw it myself! He hit me earlier because I had no money. He was trying to force me to take the blame! Officer, you have to stand up for me!"

Ryan kept backing her up, twisting the story and blaming everything on me.

In the end, I was dragged away, still struggling, while Ryan called out behind me with feigned concern.

"Lucas! Behave yourself in there! I'll take good care of Vanessa for you! We'll be waiting for you to come back!"

I turned back. My eyes were filled with violent fury, and my chest heaved with rage.

I would make them pay!

With everything settled, my life returned to normal.Vanessa was ultimately sentenced to eight or nine years. Even if she behaved well in prison and got parole, she would still have to serve six or seven years.I never expected to see her again.Since her imprisonment, my small company had gained tremendous attention. Whether out of sympathy or admiration for how I handled the whole affair, the company's market value soared. Netizens playfully called me 'Alpha Ex-Husband' and praised me as a straightforward man, staying loyal to a wife like that for so many years. I just smiled and let it be, focusing solely on my own affairs. At first, my father was not very confident in my small start-up, but after the company's performance improved, he invested in it. The business grew bigger, and so did my wealth.A few years later, Ryan chose to end his own life in the hospital. The final conclusion was despair due to injury. He was orphaned and already impoverished. After becoming paraly

Ryan did not manage to escape in the end. In his panic and unfamiliarity with the layout of my villa, he jumped from the second floor, not onto the lawn, but onto marble tiles, shattering his leg on impact. As he collapsed, the edge of a flowerbed struck the back of his neck.By the time the police arrived, Ryan lay on the ground, motionless, only letting out faint groans of pain."Ryan!"Vanessa cried out, trying to rush forward to check on him, but the police held her back and escorted her away.I watched the police urgently tending to Ryan's injuries, but all I could think was that he could not die in my house. Otherwise, I would have to move. What terrible luck that would be.Fortunately, he survived, but the doctors said the situation was critical. Surgery was urgent, and there was a real risk of full paralysis.Even before the operation, while he was still conscious, the first thing he did was curse at Vanessa and me."Lucas! This is all your fault! I've ended up like this

Vanessa finally realized her mistakes, but it was too late.I did not say a word as I watched her being handcuffed and escorted away by the police.Once she realized she could be facing years behind bars, panic set in. She spilt everything in the interrogation room, trying to lessen her sentence. It turned out she had never expected Ryan to actually hit someone. She just wanted him to have his fun. However, when the accident happened, she could not think of any other solution. That was why she planned for me to take the fall.Vanessa's scheme was calculated to the last detail. She expected I would not get out, so she planned to manipulate public opinion online to force my family to pay her off. Then, she wanted to divorce me, walk away with a huge payout and half of my assets, and run off with Ryan. Judging from the hotel records, their illicit affair had been going on for a year and a half. She had long stopped loving me. Our marriage had been dead for some time.Of course, I wa

I looked at Vanessa's face and felt nothing but unfamiliarity."Vanessa, you and Ryan are already messing around behind my back, yet you still have the nerve to question me?! I'll do whatever I want. Why should I confess to a crime I didn't commit? Who do you think you are to control me?! We're getting divorced anyway!"As my tone grew louder, fear flashed across her face, and she hurried to soothe me."It's just because of Ryan! From now on, I'll keep my distance from him, as long as you take the blame for him properly!"I stared at her pleading face. After a long silence, I suddenly nodded.Vanessa froze for a moment, then a flash of wild joy crossed her face.I ignored her. I slowly pulled out my phone and pressed play."As long as you take the blame for Ryan..."Her face stiffened, then she instantly turned pale. Her eyes widened as she lunged forward to grab my phone. I kicked her to the ground."Stay the hell away from me!"I pushed open the hallway doors and walked st

Ryan took two of my punches before blood started gushing from his nose. I knew Muay Thai, and I had not even held back much. Even though I avoided vital areas, it was enough to make him miserable. He cried out in pain, struggling helplessly against me. The difference in our strength was obvious. I grabbed him by the collar and slammed him to the ground, clenching my fist for another strike."Lucas! Are you crazy?!"Vanessa covered her face, came to her senses, and threw herself at me, screaming that I was insane. I shot back at her without holding back."Crazy?! Vanessa, the crazy one here is you! You posted that video clearing Ryan's name, even though I didn't do anything! You'd do something like this for his sake?! Aren't we supposed to be husband and wife?! You're just hoping I rot in prison so you can run off with him, huh?!"As I spoke, I pulled out my phone and showed her the trending video. Vanessa froze for a moment. Her expression immediately faltered."I-I just wanted t

"Look, there he is! Lucas! The heir of Zane Corporation!"I slowly wiped the egg off my face, frowning and forcing down the urge to vomit. I took in the furious crowd surrounding me."How dare you show your face out here! How did you even get out? Who pulled strings for you?!""Rich kids' lives are just different. Who else would show up at the police station wearing a watch worth ninety thousand dollars?!""Give us an explanation! Why aren't you being detained?!"The crowd pressed closer, demanding answers. They tore into me. My hair, my clothes, and my appearance were all the proof they needed to label me a villain.I was stunned by the barrage of shouts and insults. After a moment, I remembered something. I pulled out my phone, which the police officers had confiscated earlier, and opened social media.
