Chapter 10: Sitting Awkwardly

The most awkward thing that ever happened to me was when I was in high school and on the bus, the guy sitting next to me farted loudly, which everyone on the bus heard, but he pretended not to hear and continued singing with his earphones plugged in.

And I had a feeling those earphones weren't connected to the music player he was carrying.

And what happened next was even stranger. I'm sitting in front of this woman, whose name I don't know. In Rafe's living room, we were facing each other.

She looked at me occasionally, then at the small mirror in her hand, and then triumphantly smiled.

What exactly does that mean? Is she comparing my face to hers and then claiming victory? What in the world is that?

As a woman, I was obviously offended; if there had been a makeup kit nearby, I would have challenged this woman to a makeup battle. Damn, it appears that Rafe's arrogance has rubbed off on me.
