Chapter-9 Let's make our presence known

Chapter-9

AVYANNA'S POV

'What was that all about? Don't you think he was a bit weird?' My wolf asked me, and I quirked my brows at her.

'A little bit? Are you sure he wasn't completely insane? I don't even know how to react anymore to the situation I am currently in. Like, what are we? Should I treat him as my brother or as a stranger who is providing for my temporary lodging?' I asked before sighing loudly when I reached the canteen.

Entering the large area, I nodded my head, visibly satisfied with the layout of how large it was.

It was quite spacious, and there were plenty of tables, making it look like a big restaurant.

"Haha. Do you think you can get away with giving this lousy confession card to my man? What were you even thinking? Did you think I wouldn't notice? Do you think a good for nothing ugly bitch like you can win my man's heart?" I heard a shrill voice, making me turn to the right side of the canteen, where a small crowd was forming.

Walking a few steps closer to the crowd, I noticed a girl getting bullied by a couple of girls, and I couldn’t help but grip the side of a table as the flashback of what had happened around 3.5 years ago with me started appearing in my head, making me wince.

'Avyanna, if you don't feel comfortable, then you shouldn't see anymore,' My wolf said, and I nodded my head in approval as I noticed almost everyone looking at the scene doing nothing.

I know it was a bitch move on my part as I wasn’t the one to turn blind eye to bullying, but for some reason, I was afraid I might retaliate more than needed because of my already sour mood regarding what my mother did.

"Yo, what are you eating?" I asked the demon's daughter, and she lifted her head to look at me temporarily before nodding and going back to her eating.

"If you want to eat here, then bring your food. I am not sharing," She said in her deep cute voice, and I know she was trying to act tough, but for some reason, she was appearing too cute to me at the moment.

Taking some cheese sandwiches, and a chocolate shake, I sat beside her, smiling, when I saw her pausing and then starting again.

Judging from her reaction, one thing was clear. She was an introvert, but I was sure she would open up to me pretty soon.

"Why are they bullying that girl? And why is no one doing anything?" I asked after taking a bite, and she looked at the left side before swallowing her food.

"That girl belongs to the nerd group of the school, and she recently gave her love confession to one of the jocks here. He is the future alpha of the Sinister pack. The girls who are bullying her belong to the barbies group like any normal human school. The leader of that group, the one wearing that mini skirt, also belongs to the Sinister pack, and she thinks she will be the chosen mate of that alpha boy. That's why she has taken to herself to bully any girl who tries to get close to the alpha.

The funny part is, the alpha boy doesn't even know anything about it," The demon's daughter said, chuckling briefly, and I nodded my head.

"Why don't you stop them? Isn't everyone afraid of you? Maybe you can use your reputation," I said, and she looked at me before scoffing.

"Why would I bother? No one here has ever accepted me apart from fearing me. No one ever tried to befriend me before. Why should I help her and make one fake friend? If I save her, she'll try to stick to me in the name of friendship when she'll just be using me as the protective shield from all the bullying she gets.

I would rather stay alone and in peace, rather than having one fake friend," She said, and I nodded my head.

"What's your name anyway? I can't keep calling you the demon's daughter or the red-haired girl in my head," I said, and she paused her actions before looking at me.

"It's Cassandra Ruth," she said, and I nodded my head.

"You know my name already. However, let me tell you again. I am Avyanna Erryn Roosevelt," I said, and she squinted her brows.

"That's a long name," She complained, and I chuckled awkwardly.

"Just call me Avy then," I said, and she scoffed.

"Who are you to tell me what to call you? I'll just call you Rose," She said, and I smirked at her last sentence.

"Does that mean we are friends?" I asked her, and she looked at me before biting her lips as she knitted her brows as if contemplating my words.

"You are forcing your friendship on me," she said, and I chuckled aloud.

"You have given me such a cute nickname already, and I am the one who is forcing my friendship on you? Are you sure about it?" I asked, and she huffed before looking away, making my heart melt as I looked at her puffed cheeks, which were becoming too irresistible now.

"I can't understand how you can be the demon's daughter. You are so cute," I said before pinching her cheeks.

Feeling someone’s gaze on me, I looked up, gazing at the people around me, who were looking back at me as if I committed some kind of Sin, making me squint my brows.

Seeing them whispering something into each other's ears with my hands still on Cassandra's cheeks, I looked back at her, noticing how she was looking as red as a tomato.

"Are you by any chance blushing?" I asked, and it wasn't long before I felt her eyes turning slightly red as she looked at me.

"How dare you?" She asked me, and I, who was least scared of losing my life after everything I have gone through, shrugged my shoulders before pinching her other cheek.

"Damn it! You are hot, girl!" I commented, and I expected her to say something like how I was not worthy of teasing her or how she will rot me in hell for what I did, and this will make things hard for Evander, who will have to use all the tricks he has to save me.

Seeing her raising her hands as if wanting to slap me, I clenched my left fist as I was ready to dodge her slap with my right hand.

However, what I didn't expect was for her to rather place her hand on my cheek and pull my cheeks like she was stretching an elastic band.

"What do you think you are doing?" I asked her, and she smiled at me, making my heart melt for the umpteenth time today as I saw how pretty she looked, smiling like that.

"It’s tit for tat. However, your cheeks are softer than mine," She said, and I looked at her dumbfounded.

What the hell is she doing? She is the demon's daughter. She is supposed to get angry at me and make things hard for me, no? She should have done something that would have made everyone talk about me, and the word would have spread to Evander, and he would have come to my rescue.

Yes, I indeed agreed to live with him, but that doesn't mean I will stop my plan of making things interesting for him.

"You do know as a demon's daughter you shouldn't be saying things like those, right?" I asked her, and she looked at me with innocent knitted brows, her earlier cold attitude completely gone, and I hated to say that I was actually feeling protective of her.

"Why would you say that? I thought you were different. Is the demon's daughter not allowed to act like normal humans? It's not like I am some kind of monster, and to say even monsters have feelings," She said, looking at me with those big innocent eyes, and I don't know what to say or do anymore because the strongest emotion I was feeling at the moment was that of surprise.

She has changed from a cold angry devil to a sweet innocent girl in such a short span that I was having a hard time believing what was right or wrong.

"Damn, why are you getting so defensive? It’s not like I meet a demon’s daughter every day. This is my first time too. Huh.. fine, I am wrong. You are allowed to have feelings. What is your next lecture? I have English with Mr. Evander, again?" I squinted my brows when I looked at my schedule, and she looked at me and was about to say something when she stopped, looking at something behind me, and I turned to look at the guys, who were entering the canteen now and were going towards the opposite side in long powerful strides.

From the energy they were radiating, making everyone turn to look at them, I was sure that some of them were definitely holding good positions.

"Who are they? They are quite good-looking," I said, and she nodded her head.

"Well, these are the alphas boys and their betas and other such jocks," She said as I saw a few more extremely good-looking boys entering one after the other.

"Who is the one who got the love confession?" I asked, intrigued.

"You are quite interested in gossip, aren't you?" She asked me, and I smiled at her sheepishly.

"The one on the left who is wearing that black T-shirt. The one with brown hair," She said, and I turned to look at the guy she was referring to.

Observing him from head to toe, I nodded my head approvingly.

The guy indeed has the looks girls would fall for.

However, he was still in the lacking department when compared with Evander. I thought absentmindedly before widening my eyes when I realized I was thinking about that annoying not-so-stepbrother again.

"He is indeed great. Ain't he?" I asked, and she nodded her head.

"It's a shame. He is a good guy, and I have seen him caring for others, but I can't say the same thing for the people around him," she said, and I nodded my head at her.

"I think he should change his friend circle. He isn't a kid to not have noticed how people around him are so mean," I said, and as if he heard my words, he suddenly looked at me, making me look back at him with the same challenging look, none of us backing down.

"Stop staring at him like that. Don't you know it's disrespectful to look into an Alpha's eyes? Don't they teach that in your community?" Cassandra asked me, and I grinned sheepishly.

"Well, who said I was the one to follow the rules? Sooner or later we are going to have a confrontation, and judging from how he is looking back at me, I am sure it will include some bloodshed," I said and was about to pick my tray when something hit the back of my head, and before I could react to it, I felt sticky substance, flowing down my neck and face, making me close my eyes as the smell registered to my mind.

Turning around, I looked at the girls who had thrown the juice bottle at me, my eyes fixated on the head girl.

"You threw this at me?" I asked, my tone getting darker than I had intended.

"Oops, my bad. I was actually trying to throw the bottle at the girl who is hiding behind you. Would you mind stepping aside?" She asked me as she took another bottle in her hand, making me look at the girl who was their target.

"Rose, are you okay? Let’s go and get you cleaned," Cassandra said, and I scoffed, feeling some kind of dark energy bubbling inside me.

"Yes. A little bit drenched, but apart from that, I am okay. However, I am going to make sure someone's ego doesn't stay okay today," I said, smiling evilly.

"Rose, don't do anything stupid that will make you the center of the attention of these bullies," Cassandra said, and I chuckled darkly.

"Didn't you hear my introduction today? I treat people how they treat me. All she had to say was a small apology for her mistake, but rather than doing that, she is acting all proud?" I asked before taking the tray in my hand.

"Say sorry," I said to the girl, looking straight into her eyes, and she paused her actions, the smile on her face stiffening as if she didn't expect someone to say something like that to her.

"What? What did you say to her? Do you even know who she is?" The girl beside her asked, making me remember the side chicks of Camille, and I couldn't help but scoff.

"I asked her to say sorry, and I think she has a mouth to talk. Unless she is mute and you want to take the beating in her place, I would suggest shutting yours. You're not the one I am talking to," I said with a smile on my face, the air around me starting to get heavy already.

'Avy, either keep your agitation in control or just take some action. The air around you is becoming heavy already. It won't be long before it will start reacting and make its presence known,' My wolf reminded me, and I nodded my head before taking a deep breath.

"You! How dare you talk to us like that?! You are a new girl, right? I have never seen you here before. And since you are new, I will let it slide this one time. We will not take offense to what you said. Just say sorry to our boss, and we will be fine," She said, and I couldn't help but scoff at her words.

"This might be my first day, and you might let it slide, but guess what? I am not going to let it slide. This girl over here poured this juice on me, and did I mention when I didn't even provoke her or do something to her? So she should say sorry to me, and I'll think of it as even. Accidentally or intentionally, she is at fault, and she should know to apologize for her mistakes. That is unless you are not taught basic manners," I scoffed, and seeing her gaze darkening, I know I hit the nail right on the spot this time.

"You know what? I was going to let it slide since this was your first day, but now that you are -"

"Just cut the crap and get this over with. Do you think I have time to waste on unimportant people like you?" I asked, smirking inside my head when I noticed her walking towards me in angry strides.

Well, I think I found a way to make my presence known in the school and make Evander finally meet the real me. I thought before grinning inside my head.
