"THE REBELS!"

A raw shriek ripped down the corridor.

It was instantly drowned out by the loud thuds of clashing steel and the sharp crack of gunpowder.

My eyes snapped open.

My body lurched forward in bed, chest heaving as a violent cough tore through my throat.

My limbs felt soft. Useless.

As if I was still trapped by the weakness of the chronic childhood illness that had locked me away in this palace until my eighteenth birthday.

For twenty years, I have been the hidden, fragile shame of the Royal Alpha family.

I am an Alpha prince with zero knowledge of politics, zero self-defense training, and zero understanding of how the court works.

I don't know why the kingdom runs the way it does.

I dont know why these Omegas are rioting.

I don't know what they're fighting for.

The only thing my father ever drilled into my head was a single terrifying truth.

''The rebels are wicked Omegas, and they want to kill you and our family.''

The word left a bad taste on my tongue.

This wasn’t the first time they attacked.

But this was the first time they reached the inside of the palace itself.

"Hide the prince!"

Another shriek echoes right outside my door.

My blood ran cold. Chills rattled down my spine.

I scramble across the mattress, but my weak legs buckle immediately.

I fell hard against the floor. The silk sheets tangled around my ankles like a trap.

Still, I forced myself up on trembling knees.

I dragged my body to the door and pressed my ear against the wood.

The scents mingling in the air are a mixture of intense emotions. Thick. Dizzying.

Terror. Fury. And blood.

So much blood.

But beneath it all...

A strange, blended aroma of hope.

'Hope for what?'

There is no doubt that the guards assigned to my door are already dead.

My teeth grit in absolute frustration at my own uselessness.

'If only I could fight like a true Alpha.'

Hurriedly, I pulled a decorative ceremonial sword down from the wall display. It was far too heavy for my hands, but its cold weight was the only shield I had.

I threw the door open and peered into the dark corridor.

'I am a true alpha. I won't hide anymore.' I screamed it in my mind.

But the sight outside my room makes me freeze.

Bodies littered on the hallway.

The carpet feels sickeningly wet beneath my bare feet.

Trembling, I trailed the blunt edge of my sword across the face of a corpse.

My face went pale.

It was one of our new Beta recruits. The one who had once clumsily spilled juice on my legs.

His throat was torn open. Blood pooled across the floor.

But right next to him lay other bodies, dressed in tattered, non-imperial gear.

A bitter laugh left my mouth, as my eyes welled with tears.

Some of them were rebel Omegas. They risked their lives just to hunt us down.

'Why? What did we ever do to them?'

Realizing how vulnerable I was, I scrambled back into my chamber and locked the door.

'If those assigned to protect me were dead...

I am next.'

'Don't be a cowardly idiot. Protect the palace, you worthless prince.' My inner Alpha growled in my ears.

But I ignored him. My hands trembled as I locked the door.

But the moment it clicked...

A thick, unfamiliar metallic scent filled the room.

My body froze.

From the corner of my eye, a shadow moved behind my bed.

Before I could raise my weapon, a pair of rough, strong hands locked around my throat.

And with a terrifying ease, the intruder slammed me backward against the wall. The last of my breath was knocked out of my lungs.

My ceremonial sword clattered uselessly to the floor. While I am entirely pinned, completely helpless against his dominant strength.

"Don't move." A low, dangerous voice.

The sharp, freezing edge of a silver dagger pressed directly against my throat.

I looked up through the dim light, heart pounding like a trapped bird.

The assassin wore a stark white veil, obscuring the lower half of his face. But his scent gave him away instantly.

A male Omega.

But he didn't smell like the weak, submissive Omegas my father told me about.

His scent was different. Predatory, and something... dangerous.

My breathing grew more labored.

'I'm going to die tonight.'

At the hands of a rebel Omega.

And, not just any rebel, but their leader. Judging by the tattoo on his dagger.

Tears streamed from the corners of my eyes, his grip is tight and strong.

Desperately, I writhed against him. Carefully, because I couldn’t move recklessly. Not with his strength. Not with a blade at my neck.

But as I struggled, my hand slipped.

And brushed directly against the exposed skin of his wrist.

Pain.

A sudden, white blinding flash of hot pain shot through my body.

It didn’t strike my neck, or my hands. Instead, it pierced directly into my lower right ribs.

Searing into my flesh just above my waist. Like a branding iron.

Pinned against the wall, I let out a painful, breathless gasp.

Across from me, the dominant Omega rebel stiffened violently.

His grip on my throat vanished.

He stumbled backward, hand flying to his back.

A sharp hiss escaped from behind his veil.

He clutched his spine, eyes wide with an emotion I never expected to see in a rebel.

Shock and disbelief.

Neither of us moved. The air between us shifted, suddenly too hot, like the space itself had caught fire and was pressing down my ribs.

He looked down at me, knuckles trembling.

Staring at the fragile Alpha he just pinned to the wall.

He could kill me right now to end whatever this pain is. Or at least he should.

Instead, he slowly lowers the dagger. My throat tightened.

"W-wait," I try to stop him, carefully and nervously.

But he ignored me. Without a single word, he steps back into the shadows.

He threw open the balcony doors. And vanishes into the chaotic bloody night.

I collapsed onto the floor, clutching my burning waist. My heart roared in the silence of my room.

A bitter laugh escaped me as I hugged my knees. Staring at the now-empty balcony.

The universe and its sick sense of humor.

I, a fragile Prince who knew nothing of war...

Was now at the mercy of the rebel leader who just left me branded and burning in the dark.

I buried my face against my knees.

The realization made me weak.

'I finally found my mate.

And, he was not someone I expected.'

'I was a Prince of the Weirer Kingdom,''You mean a disgraceful prince of the Weirer Kingdom?''Alpha? Where did you go earlier? I didn't feel your presence.'He sneered. 'How the hell would I know? The next second, I just felt trapped in something dark. I couldn't even talk or move.'My face scrunched up in confusion. I wanted to ask him more, but he beat me to it.'And what in the seven hells did I just see earlier?'My Alpha half growled in my mind.'You fucking chickened out, huh? Letting that bitch get to you with some pathetic touch, then you go whimpering like a horny pup, you stupid coward.''Don't call him that,' another part of me snapped. 'He's our mate.''He's a bad mate,' the growl returned. 'No omega should act like that. He deserves to be thrown into a dungeon.''That's cruel,' I thought, trying to intervene.'Isn't he cruel too?' the voice countered.'Fucking look at the blood on your neck. Look at the blood on your back. Why let him treat you like that?''I didn't...

They brought me to a place surrounded by huge rocks. The rebels didn't bother with mercy. They threw me onto my stomach, my face grinding into the hard dirt ground."Hh—th—HAAH..." I gasped.I could still deeply feel the mixture of pain and numbness in my thigh, and the nonstop bleeding. But that was nothing compared to the terror gripping my heart right now."Is that him?" I heard one of them ask.I tried to blink and look up, but I could barely make them out through the constant spinning and blurring of my vision."Start," a voice barked.Hands suddenly grabbed my shoulders and mercilessly hauled me up onto my knees. Both of my hands were tied behind my back again, pulled even tighter this time.I struggled to swallow as I caught the faint silhouette of someone walking toward me.Then I heard something that made my blood run cold."Fifty lashes," someone announced, his voice echoing across the open space. "For the Prince who thought he could walk free."And that was when I felt the

The air in the clearing felt like it had turned to dust. The silence was loud.A pressure that made my lungs struggle to draw even the shallowest of breaths.Tai moved through the crowd like a predator through long grass. His presence radiating a danger that made the very atmosphere around us shudder. He stopped only a few feet away from me.He didn’t reach for his weapon. He simply stood there, his head tilted slightly, his unreadable gaze fixed on my broken, trembling form.I could feel his eyes roaming over the mud-caked ruins of my skin. The pathetic way I was clawing at the earth. And the raw, deep hole in my leg where the iron tip had torn through muscle and vein."Who did this?" His voice carried the weight of a death sentence. The Omega who had shot me stepped forward with his chest puffed out.A sick, proud grin plastered across his face."I did, Leader," the Omega boasted, his voice ringing with arrogance."He was skulking around the edge of the woods like a rat. "Ugh... ahh..." A wet, pathetic groan tore through my lips.I curled in on myself. My forehead pressing into the dirt as a quiet, broken sob racked my chest. The tears came instantly. Hot and entirely unbidden, blurring my vision into a useless, watery haze.I was a prince of the Weirer kingdom. I possessed the dominant bloodline of an Alpha. Yet here I was, curled in the mud. Crying like a helpless, terrified child. The Omega with the bow took a step forward. The crunch of his heavy boots against the dry leaves sounded like deafening thunder to my ringing ears.'Move. You have to move.'Pure, primal instinct overrode my shock. I had to get away.I pressed my bleeding hands flat against the rough ground. My torn fingernails digging desperately into the soil. With a shaky, painful heave, I tried to drag my body backward. My right leg trailed behind me like dead weight. The movement caused the arrow shaft to bump against a raised root in the dirt.Another sob ripped from my throat as the

I didn't waste a single second.I reached across my body and clawed at the thick hemp rope binding my left wrist.'Hurry. Hurry. Hurry.'My fingers were trembling, I could barely grasp the knot. The rope was incredibly thick and rough, the coarse fibers biting into my skin like a knife.I dug my fingernails into the tight loops. Pulling and twisting with every ounce of strength my body possessed.A sharp spike of pain shot through my hand as one of my nails bent backward and snapped.A bead of blood welled up from the torn quick. But I clamped my jaw shut, swallowing the whimper of pain.I couldn't stop.I ignored the warm blood making my fingertips slick and dug into the knot again.'Come on!'With a final, desperate yank, the knot gave way.The thick rope uncoiled, and my left arm slumped down, weak and useless.I silently gasped. Massaging the bruised, raw flesh of my wrist. But I didn't let myself rest.I immediately sat up and dragged myself toward my bound ankles. The knots on my

I woke up to the sensation of a rope loosening around my one wrist.I blinked my eyes open.My vision slowly adjusting to the light of the tent.Only to face an unfamiliar Omega standing over me."Eat," he ordered. Slamming a rough wooden bowl onto the dirt beside me.I just stared at it."I don't want it," I declined.Turning my face away as I focused on my newly freed hand.I rotated my wrist, wincing at the numbness. The skin was rubbed raw and angry red from the tight constraints.I flinched as he suddenly kicked the edge of the tray, rattling the bowl."Eat," he snapped. Annoyance bleeding heavily into his tone.I glared up at him. "I said I don't want to eat. I'm not hungry."But the universe apparently had a twisted sense of humor. Because the very second those words left my mouth, my empty stomach let out a embarrasing growl that echoed in the quiet tent.'Fuck!' I groaned internally, my cheeks burning with shame.I saw a mocking smirk tug at the corner of his mouth. But I refu
