15. Not Quite Pain

Alex's Pov

He stood perfectly still. His eyes Cold. Unblinking.

The lights in the room were turned low, casting dim shadows along the walls. Something shiny caught my eye on the bed but I couldn't tell what it was.

I could feel my pulse quicken, the beads of water on my back turning into a cold sweat, making me shiver. The atmosphere in the room was ominous. Foreboding.

He waited. Still as a statue, while I squirmed underneath his gaze.

Finally, he spoke.“You disobeyed me, Alex.” He said, voice low and rumbling deep within his chest.

I opened my mouth to say something in my defense. What could I say? Beg for mercy? Leniency?

Before the words coould leave my lips, a loud crack rend the air and I instinctively raised my hand above my head and lowered in shock.

The pain didn't come. He hadn't hit me. Not yet. The message was clear, I wasn't allowed to speak.

“Come here.” An order.

I shuffled forward on unsteady feet, my eyes cast downward trying hard not to cry.
