Alex's Pov “Nah. It's not that serious. Forget about it.” I said with nervous laughter, sipping my iced coffee to stop myself from saying anything else. “What?! Hell no. You've got to tell me this one at least. Come on,” His eyes brightened with intrigue and he was leaning so close it looked like he might jump off his seat at any moment. “Really, it was nothing. Just...” I stammered for a bit. I'd never told anyone about the encounters I'd had with Gerald. Not only because they were embarrassing but I also had no one to tell. It'd been a secret I kept to myself. And Gerald probably knew that. It was why he kept doing it. I never fought back or told anyone. It was worth wondering if life was punishing me this way through Luca because I'd secretly wished the asshat dead a lot of times. I sighed and looked down at my drink, “It was more than him grabbing my junk. He was…. Really trying to rape me sometimes.” “Whoa.” The excitement washed out of Ryan's face, “You aren't kiddin
Alex's Pov “Is she always this angry?” Ryan whispered, sitting up straight and adjusting his jacket. “Not really.” I mumbled as Isabelle approached the table. “Hello Ryan.” She greeted sweetly but before he could reply to her, likely with one of his flowery sentences, she wheeled on me, “Alex. Y’know, I just want to smash your head right into the table until it turns to mush.” “Whoa.” Ryan gasped at the same time I chuckled. Wasn't the first time I was hearing something like that. “Hey Belle. I'm good. thanks for asking.” I said, still chuckling. “Really?!” She grunted. “Well you are looking much better so I guess I'm just caring too much.” She grumbled and folded her hands across her chest. “Hey, hey, no that's not it.” I got up and held her around the shoulders, “I like that you care about me…” “I just need to stop. Is that it?” She pouted. “No, I meant….” “What he means is he's a huge douchebag who doesn't deserve the friendship and loving heart of a person lik
Luca's Pov “Taking out a rat. Pshh, that's easy cheese. At least you're not being asked to blow up anything.” Elias said, the tension in his shoulders visibly draining away. We'd driven in silence back to the motel. Neither of us had said a word. The car had been in their possession for a while so we couldn't rule out the possibility of it being bugged. When we got back to the motel, neither of us said anything still. We packed our stuff, checked out of the room to the surprise and mild annoyance of the busty woman at the reception, and called a cab. We went almost halfway across town to a bigger hotel, stopping at a mall to stock up on supplies. Elias tipped the cabbie heavily, drawing a smile from his mouth hidden in a mountain of dark, bushy facial hair and we checked into a room on the third floor. Elias was about to speak before I raised a hand to silence him. I took off my coat and the weapons I'd hidden in them. I dismantled the gun and the phone. Bugs couldn't hav
Alex's Pov Ryan drove a Harley. I stared at its jet black, magnificent form in the parking lot. It looked out of place beside an old, beat up truck probably belonging to the old gentleman and a quaint cream coloured Prius. “You really own that?” I asked, my jaw hanging open. “Yeah. I mean, well I wouldn't say own exactly. I drive it.” He grinned, the smugness of a few seconds ago gone from him. “So it belongs to someone else?” I gasped. “Uh-huh.” He nodded, then turned to me and saw the look on my face. “What? Oh shit I didn't steal it man come on!” I let out a breath of relief. “I didn't think you stole it,” I protested weakly. “You sure as hell did. It belongs to my dad, ok. I'm technically not allowed to drive it for now but he's out of town and my little brother isn't going to tell on me so,” He shrugged and jiggled the keys. “Not allowed? So you're breaking a rule?” I sighed. “No. I'm taking advantage of a situation.” He threw a helmet in the air and caught it. “
Alex's Pov The words on the page danced away from one another and then back together again, colliding and rolling over one another. They swam across the white background from one end to another and shrieked in alarm and scurried out of the way of one solitary raindrop. I blinked quickly, causing more raindrops to fall. I snapped the book shut. Crying was useless. I'd done enough of that the night before and again this morning. I dragged my forearm across my eyes a little forcefully, the rough fabric grazing my skin. I knew it was going to be like this. Why the hell was I surprised he'd done exactly what the Contract had said? I opened the book again, trying to concentrate. It was Sunday and the library was near empty this time of the afternoon. Besides the receptionist and an older gentleman frowning over the rows of books in the politics section. I hadn't seen anyone else. I was the only other person here. I'd selected some random book off the fantasy bookshelf to keep b
Luca's Pov We walked down the long dark corridor and back into the container at the entrance. The men who'd been laying around snapped to attention at the sight of their leader. They bowed as he walked past, each man bending forward slightly with eyes shut. It felt weird to see. Moreau's men accorded him respect but not to the point of bowing. “There's a gun shipment supposed to come in at dawn,” The Viper began, nodding to a few of his aides as we passed. I fell into step with him but stayed one pace behind him so I wasn't standing directly beside him. It was how we were taught to walk with our superiors in the Moreau Household. It showed respect and consciousness of one's place. Also, it afforded me a tiny room of advantage should he decide to attack me all of a sudden. I still didn't think that was unlikely despite his calm demeanor. “The shipment should have arrived three days ago. We had to delay it. Push it back a few days. Do you know why?” The Viper continued.
