Chapter 6

Artemis Thaleia's Perspective.

My eyebrows immediately crossed when I noticed that no agents were guarding Sin's room in the headquarters.

"D-Did he managed to escape?" I whispered to myself.

Sin had already gained his strength back, and tomorrow was the first day of Sin's scheduled trial, so if the miscreant found a way to rescue Sin from here, it wouldn't be a surprise.

I walked inside his room, and when I didn't see Sin inside, my fear that he might have fled from the headquarters intensified.

The door pushed open, creating a noise that gained my attention.  A janitor with her cleaning supplies met my eyes.

The janitor's tight smile curved into a tight grin.

"Good morning, Dr. Belmont. What are you still doing here?" The janitress asked me.

"Where is the patient in this room? Do you know what happened to him? Was he transferred to a different room?"

"Ah, the mafia boss? What do they call him again? Sin? What a fitting name for a ruthless criminal.

"Yes, him. Where is he?"

"I was hoping that a demon like him should be rotting in hell, but I don't know, Dr. Belmont," she answered.

"You could have just told me that you don't know—no need to call him names. You should be careful of calling someone a demon. You wouldn't want them to get pissed and bring you to the hell with them, right?"

Breathing heavily like I would explode out of anger at any moment. I walked past everyone and went straight to my father's office.

I was about to open the door when I noticed that it was ajar.  I saw his supervising officer seated on my father's swivel chair. While Papa stood in front of his desk, facing his officer.

I was taught not to eavesdrop on someone else's conversation, which is why I'm ready to close the door, but the next thing I heard from Papa's official stopped me from doing so.

"Detective Belmont, you know what to do after Sin's trial tomorrow." I moved my ear closer to the door.

"And that is?" Papa trailed.

"Kill that savage on your way back here from the court. We'll tell the press that he tried to escape and fight back, which is why you had left with no choice but to kill Sin as a form of self-defense. Not that our people would care, but in case questions arise because of his sudden death. I'll take over and make sure that you won't bear a consequence."

Unexplainable anger seeped through my system.

"Are we clear, Detective Belmont?"  His officer asked seriously.

"You wouldn't do that right, Papa? You're a man of principle. You believe in fairness. You wouldn't execute Sin like that," I whispered to myself as I waited for my father's response.

"Yes, sir," Papa said, and I couldn't stop myself from going inside his office, which surprised him and his officer.

"You can't do that! Sin doesn't deserve to die! Sin was now ready to pay for things that he had done in the past. Papa, please, don't do this to Sin,"  I said hysterically.

"Thaleia, were you eavesdropping? What are you even doing here? You're not supposed to be here!" Papa growled.

"What about those he killed? Like your mother, Dr. Belmont, do they deserve to die?" Papa's chief officer, Chief Phillip, asked.

I have never been this angry in my entire. It felt like one wrong word from them would make me lose my mind and do unimaginable things.

"Sin Cruorem's life will never amount to those that Sin has taken."

Breathing so fast. I withdraw my arm that Papa was firmly holding to stop me from approaching Chief Phillips.

"Sin didn't mean to do that. He has a mental health condition. I can prove that in court, and when that happens, the charges against him will be reduced or even dropped by the court because he needs to get treated!"  I shouted once more, earning a mocking laugh from Chief Phillip.

"Thaleia, stop it."  Papa snorted as he tried to pull me out of his office.  I violently withdrew my arm from him again and then walked towards Chief Phillip.

"I will not allow you to kill Sin!" I hissed.

Chief Phillip laughed with no hint of humor in his voice as he clapped his hand in slow motion.

"Looks like Crimson Cruorem, the King of Sins, no longer needs to bribe your daughter anymore, Detective Belmont. Do you see and hear what your daughter is telling us? I gave you a warning before no one says no to Sin."

Chief Phillip gritted his teeth, "Thaleia wasn't curing him. Sin wasn't behaving. He was manipulating your daughter. He made her fall for him so this filthy daughter of yours would help him escape!" Chief Phillip shouted.

Looking at his gun. I snatched it from Chief Phillips' waist before he could grab it.

There was no trace of fear or thought that if I shot it at him now, my life would be ruined.  I only know one thing right now, and that is that my anger is taking over and controlling me

"Thaleia, please, calm down and put that down,"  Papa said in a calmer tone.  I ignored him and instead came closer to Chief Phillip.

I pointed the gun at the temple of Chief Phillip's head.

"Artemis—"

"Shut the fuck up! No one will lay their fingers on Sin. No one will kill him because I will make sure that before any of your agents can do what you ordered a while ago. Your blood will be the first to spill here," I said with a voice shaking in anger.  The tension between us intensified as Papa tried to reach my hand and twist it, but then I managed to quickly kick him in his guts, making him take a step back.

"Please, just do what I say. I get crazy when I'm mad, and you don't want that to happen. This country doesn't need another terrible criminal; don't push me to become one."  I told Papa with a smile before I hit his head with the gun in my hand.

He fell to the floor and lost consciousness.

"Chief Phillip was right, Papa. The weeks that I spent with Sin made me fall for him. I wasn't listening to his story to empathize with him. I was keenly listening because I was falling in love."

"Chief Phillip shouldn't have said those. He shouldn't have triggered that side that I was dying to hide my whole life," I whispered.

I walked out of Papa's office straight to the parking. A white Maserati stopped in front of me—a man wearing a black long-sleeve and slacks debouched from it.

"You are Doctor. Artemis Thaleia Belmont, right?" He asked as he took off his aviator glasses.

I nodded, and his smile widened even more.

"I'm Lorcan Silvano, and I think we want to do the same thing now." His grayish eyes spark in mischief, making me frown even more.

"Huh?"

"I'm Sin's right-hand man," he added, and yes, I guess we are on the same page now.
