Chapter Four

I bend over grabbing my knees, gasping for breath while trying not to vomit. The world is still spinning, but I’m trying to focus my attention on one crack in the sidewalk.

“What.. the.. fuck.. was.. that..” I say in between dry heaving.

“I guess humans do not travel well after all,” Caspain says, sounding amused.

I wave a middle finger in his direction and a small chuckle has me clenching my thighs. Why is he so hot for a demon. And why is he so goddamn annoying.

Taking a deep breath, I stand up straighter and squint to take a look around the street.

“We’re still in Chicago.”

“Indeed, I said I knew of someone in the city.” Caspain waves behind us and I turn in the direction.

I raise my eyebrows. “A nightclub. How original. Are they even open early in the day?”

“They’re always open for me.”

“I’m sure,” I say sarcastically, shuffling my bag to my other shoulder. “Well, we should probably get off the street then. Reno has reach throughout the entire city.”

Caspain looks around, unhurriedly. “And?”

“And—“ I start to argue but stop. Was he purposely trying to rile me up? “And you promised you wouldn’t kill him.”

His frowns. “I did not make such a promise, nor would I ever.”

I shift closer to the door, glancing around us. “Okay, whatever you didn’t promise. But my priority is my sister, remember? And I can’t ask Reno where she is if he’s dead.”

“I’m aware of your situation, little human. You do not need to remind me. He can be useful, even in death.”

I throw up my hands, wanting to smack him. “Has anyone ever told you how frustrating you are?”

Caspain flashes me a grin so wicked I lose my breath and I wouldn’t be surprised if my panties were wet. “No one would ever dare.”

He walks over to the door, knocking in a weird sequence and it opens automatically. He pulls it open further, waiting to the side, and waves me in.

I raise an eyebrow. “How gentleman of you. I certainly didn’t think you had it in you.”

As I’m walking in, Caspain chuckles. “The best view is watching you walk in front of me.”

I go to respond but the minute we cross the threshold a thrill runs across my skin and I flush. It is like electricity humming in my veins and controlling my body. I drop my bag to the floor, the weight of it on my shoulders unwelcomed to what I want. I need to dance and it seems like Cas seems to feel the same as he pushes me to the dance floor.

The music is pulsing throughout me as if pumping the blood in my body. I raise my arms above me, dropping my head back as I start to sway my hips. Caspain is melded to my back, moving with me. The heat of his body on mine has me wanting more. I need him to put his hands on me, I need him to kiss me, I need…more. One of his hands comes to rest on my hip, the other on my ribs with a finger pushed on the underside of my breast. His head is dropped down and I feel his breath on my neck. The brush of his lips against my skin sends a shiver down me and I push into him more.

It’s like we’re in a trance, moving as one with no actual control of each other. His hand moves up and grips my breast and the other slides into my jeans, reaching down to cup me. I rest my head back on his shoulder, closing my eyes. His fingers slid further, sliding in to circle my clit, moving perfectly in time with the music and my mouth is silently open as he pushes into me with his middle finger. I clench around him as his other hand tweaks my nipple through my tank top. We turn our heads at the same time so our mouths melt into each other, our tongues sliding in a rhythm.

“Never thought I would see the day the King would fall.”

The man’s voice was like a bucket of ice water being injected into me. It was like the crashing of glass, the scattering of whatever spell had fallen on us. And it was spell considering the music is gone and while I thought I was dancing in a full nightclub, the dance floor is empty sans the three of us. I blink, it’s like waking up suddenly in the middle of a dream and you’re halfway there and half present.

Caspain lets go of me reluctantly as I turned to the man with embarrassment flushing my face. I watched in horror as Caspain brought his hand to his mouth, sucking on the fingers that were just touching me.

He cleans them and takes them out of his mouth with a pop, licking his lips after and glaring at the man who interrupted us.

“Says the Prince who lives among humans.”

The man laughs, grabbing Caspain’s shoulder and pulling him into a half hug, clapping his back roughly. This was a prince of hell and he looked like Caspain, unworldly gorgeous. His lean body was fitted in a perfectly tailored black suit, unlike Cas’ dark eyes, he were an icy blue. He had dark hair that hung unruly around his sides and forehead. It reminded me of a frat boy I would see in movies that were never forced to grow up.

“What are you doing here? In my city of all places, I figured you would visit Wrath out of any of us.”

Caspain spares me a glance. “It wasn’t out of choice.”

My spine stiffens, reminding me why we are here and it wasn’t to be fingered by a demon or ogle a prince of hell. But also reminding me what the fuck was I doing to allow him to touch me like that? I scoff and make my way to grab the bag I had dropped carelessly on the floor.

I could feel the man’s eye as he watched me, I looked back at him, and he grinned. “I can see why you fell under the influence, brother. She’s a beauty.” I narrow my eyes on him.

Caspain steps slightly in front of me, blocking the man’s view partially.

“We need accommodations. I’m unsure how long it will take to fulfill her contract.”

“Accommodations?” The man mocks with a small chuckle, “how long has it been since you were topside? No need to be so prim and proper.”

A snort comes out of me before I can stop and the man flashes me a dazzling smile. Caspain gives me a glare over his shoulder and I smile at him.

“Ah! Finally, someone appreciates my humor. Come, I’ll show you your accommodations and perhaps I can help with the contract.” The man holds out a hand, I go to reach for it but Caspain snatches my wrist and pulls me back into him. The man chuckles with a small shake of his head as he leads us to a dark hallway near the back of the nightclub.

“I’m Rae by the way.” I offer as we walk. Caspain sighs and the man smirks.

“You can call me Lust.”

I try to hide my grimace at the name, but I can see Caspain staring at me.

“What?” I ask him as we step onto the elevator at the end of the hallway.

Lust’s dark eyebrows shot up as if surprised I would talk to Caspain that way while Cas gives me a bored look.

“Names are powerful.” He reminds me.

“Do you know his real name?”

Caspain nods.

“And do you know his real name?” I ask Lust, as I point my thumb at Cas.

“I do.” He tells me with a mischievous smile.

“So then what do you guys call each other if not your names?”

“He and his brothers go by what they are. He is Lust.”

“I thought you were a prince of hell.”

Lust laughs loudly and the ding of the elevator has us pausing the conversation as it opens to a penthouse.

“Jesus Christ,” I mutter, trying to hide the smile that threatens when I see both of their winces. The penthouse was beautiful, something out of a luxurious magazine. Everything was shiny and new, all the surfaces looked cold with marble and white.

“Prince of Hell is merely who I am, not what I am. He is the King of Demons, the first Demon created and worthy of a name. Most demons do not have a name, they simply just are.”

I choke on my spit, coughing loudly. “I’m sorry? King of Demons?”

Caspain gives me another disgruntled look as we make our way into a living room. “That’s why he called me King.”

I sneer at him. “My apologies, my liege, for not connecting the dots sooner.”

Caspian's eyes flash, glowing brighter, and Lust cackles. “Oh, I like her. Please keep her.”

“I can’t get away even if I tried,” Cas replies dryly and I roll my eyes.

“Why would the King of Demon answer my summons?”

Lust sits on the white couch, leaning back waiting for the answer as well. Caspain stares at me for a few moments, the silence intense between us. His dark eyes traced over my face.

“Your soul was like a beacon I couldn’t ignore.”
