Palmer’s POV

Some cages don’t clang shut all at once. They tighten one bar at a time until you realize the walls aren’t walls anymore — they’re ribs of steel pressing into your lungs.

That was life with Arrow now.

Every day, a little more of me disappeared into his “order.” 📅

At first it was subtle. The bracelet around my wrist that hummed against my pulse. The phone that rang only with his voice. The new staff who never looked me in the eye, who seemed trained to move silently in and out like ghosts.

Then it became deeper.

Curtains drawn earlier.

Doors locked from the outside.

The way he began calling me by nicknames that sounded sweet but felt like brands pressed into my skin.

“Little dove,” he whispered one night when he found me staring at the window. “Stop looking for open skies. You’ll only break your wings.” 🕊️💔

I smiled because I had to. But inside, something twisted tight — part grief, part rage.

---

The test came quietly, wrapped in domestic fabric.

It was a Sunday mornin

  • Tangled Obsession    Chapter XVIII

Palmer’s POVThe morning came heavy, like the sky itself knew what I carried. Gray light bled through the curtains, soft but merciless.Arrow was already gone, his side of the bed cold. A note rested on my pillow in his neat, decisive handwriting:Today is yours, little dove. Show me I was right to trust you.No signature. No heart. Just the weight of expectation, coiled like wire around my ribs.I pressed the note to my chest, then crumpled it in my palm until my knuckles turned white. I wanted to tear it to pieces, burn it, scatter the ash to the wind. But I slipped it into my bag instead, like a talisman of my prison. My hands trembled as I dressed. Every button felt like a countdown. Every step to the door like walking toward a cliff.---The hospital’s scent hit me as soon as I entered — antiseptic, detergent, a faint metallic tang of old blood. 🥀 Today it clung harder, seeping into my skin.I bought flowers on the way up. A silly, desperate act, as though petals could shield me

  • Tangled Obsession    Chapter XVII

Palmer’s POVHospitals used to smell like hope to me. Antiseptic and bleach, yes, but beneath it—something fragile, like clean sheets and second chances. Now, with Arrow’s hand warm on the small of my back as we walked through the double doors, the scent turned acrid. Hope became a taunt. 🥀The nurses greeted him with polished smiles, their gazes flicking to me only briefly. They knew who he was. Everyone did. Arrow Dawson, benefactor, savior of departments with underfunded equipment. The man who signed checks that kept lights humming. He leaned into that power effortlessly, his palm pressing firmer against me as if to remind me whose shadow I stood in.“Relax,” he murmured, lips close enough that only I could hear. “We’re here as family.”Family. The word was a blade hidden in velvet.---My father’s room was on the third floor, familiar yet foreign every time I entered it. Machines breathed around him, a steady chorus of beeps and soft hisses. His face lit up when he saw me, even u

  • Tangled Obsession    Chapter XV

Palmer’s POVThere are prisons you walk into with your eyes open. The door closes behind you, and you tell yourself you’re still free because no one shouted “stop.”Arrow didn’t have to raise his voice. He built his walls out of gestures, schedules, and small requests that sounded like kindness but felt like chains. 🪤The morning after the dinner, the house was quiet. Sunlight cut across the polished floors like a blade. I moved through the kitchen barefoot, pouring coffee into a cup I no longer tasted. My body still ached from the tension of the night before, my mind running loops of Arrow’s words:That was your test, and you failed.I wanted to believe he was bluffing. I wanted to believe I could still maneuver inside the cracks of his control. But then I noticed the first change. The phone on the kitchen wall was gone. Just… gone. No explanation. In its place, a small black device blinked a red light. A router? A signal booster? It sat there humming, alien in the domestic quiet.A

  • Tangled Obsession    Change XIV

Palmer’s POVThere’s a peculiar cruelty in silence. It doesn’t scream, it doesn’t bruise; it just lingers until every breath feels suspicious. For three days, Arrow said nothing out of the ordinary. No accusations. No sudden outbursts. Just silence and the occasional half-smile that felt like a hook through my ribs.I almost preferred his anger. At least then, I knew where I stood. 😔But then came the “test.”---It started on a Friday morning. I was buttering toast in the kitchen when he entered, still dressed in the charcoal suit from his early meeting. He didn’t remove his jacket, didn’t loosen his tie. He just leaned against the counter with the unhurried confidence of a man who owned the air I was breathing.“I have something for you,” he said casually, as if announcing the weather. The knife in my hand stilled. “For me?”Arrow’s smile was thin, sharp. “Yes. A chance to prove yourself.”The way he said it made my stomach twist. Prove myself. To him. To the contract. To the invis

  • Tangled Obsession    Chapter XIII

Palmer POV I woke before Arrow the next morning. The room was dim, the curtains pulled tight, but I could still make out the shape of him beside me — broad shoulders, even breathing, the picture of peace. He looked almost harmless when he slept. Almost.I lay there, listening to the rhythm of his breath, and thought about how easy it would be to slide out of bed, slip on my shoes, and keep walking until my legs gave out. 🚶‍♀️💔But running was a fantasy. Fantasies didn’t keep my father alive. Fantasies didn’t erase contracts written in ink and blood. Fantasies only made the fall back into reality hurt worse. So instead, I lay still until Arrow stirred, stretching like a predator waking from a nap. His arm draped over me as if by instinct. Not a hug. A tether.“Morning,” he murmured, voice rough with sleep. “Stay in bed today. You look pale.”Stay.The word curled around me like rope.“I need to visit my father,” I said softly.Arrow opened his eyes, fixing me with that calm, unreada
