ChiaraI tied my hair up in a messy bun because I didn't have time to style it after washing it. Humming to some tune I didn’t even recognize, my fingers grazed the length of the shoe rack as my eyes chose for tonight.
I looked down at my black short skirt, paired with a silver top underneath a black jacket, and smiled when my eyes locked onto a perfect match. “Come to, Mama,” I said, grabbing the silver high thigh boots with long narrow heels. I plopped on a fur ottoman to pull them on. Still humming. Where the hell did I hear this song?
My secret phone binged with a text. Yes, since the running away accident happened, Antonio made sure all of my communication means were monitored, hence the secret one.
I finished tying a silver bracelet and picked up the phone from the accessories table. I texted back and stored it in my black mini bag before leaving the room. The humming still went on until I reached the living room. My heels were halted by the voice of my mother.
“Honey, join us for dinner,” Mamma said with so much love on her face. I looked around the table. Antonio and both of his sons were staring at me. “Nah, I’m good. You eat with your family. I’m running late.” I saw the pain in her eyes before walking out of the house, tugging on my chest. Didn’t miss the satisfied look on Antonio at my words. He must be rejoicing.
Since that event, I couldn’t face her. I failed her. I was just glad that she was finally getting in touch with Earth again and not getting locked up in her room anymore.
It’s funny, the fact that the only way I could protect them was by staying away from them. It made my heart burn. But I had no choice.

I arrived at Club Moon in thirty seconds and went straight in through the VIP door. There was no way I was joining the damn queue. My body bounced to the beat as my eyes searched for the man inside the sea of people. My phone pinged.
X: Look up, gorgeous.
Me: Nobody tells me what to do.
I texted back and still looked up anyway.
He was there, waving at me with his most charming smile. I navigated the stairs and went up to him. I held out my hand for him. He took it and kissed my knuckles. His hair strands fell on his forehead, and his eyes glowed as though there were fire in them. Especially when they were scanning me from head to toe.
“Hot, like always.” He moved closer and murmured into my ear. I rolled my eyes and pulled my hand from him. “Tell me something I don’t know. You got something hotter for me, Xander?” I said as we made our way to the end of the platform and sat across from each other in a private booth.
“Hold your horses. I ordered your favorite.” He motioned at the glass of cocktail on the table, there was also a bottle of wine. I pursed my lips, my mouth watering in my imagination. It’s been a damn while. “It’s not my favorite anymore.” Liar.
“Yeah?” Xander’s lips split with a knowing smile.
A second passed. Before I could stop myself, my hand reached for the glass and raised it to my mouth. The combination of ice, Campari, sweet vermouth, prosecco, and an orange peel on the side. I shut my eyes, groaning at the taste of it. Freaking Negroni Sbagliato! I would never get tired of this drink.
Xander chuckled while I relished the drink.
“The reason why your fiancé has been quiet for a while, I haven’t figured that out yet. But…” My eyes connected with his impatiently, “I found out what he was up to lately.” He unlocked his phone and played me a video.
In the video were about six armed men who were escorting him to a container. They were at the port. I handed back his phone. “There are women in that container?” I assumed.
Xander shook his head. “No. There are teenage girls in that container. Countless of them. And he is planning on shipping them soon.”
My eyebrows furrowed. “I guess, I’m on the list too.” Xander nodded and showed me the list on his phone as well.
They were all babies, so young. Full of life and dreams. Something stirred further inside me when I found my name branded VVIP. Son of a dick!
Enzo couldn’t get caught because nobody saw him in action as he sold off people to his buyers all around the world. Xander wasn’t just any fed, but one with a good position, and still couldn’t succeed in nabbing him.
Whenever he did, his superiors would swallow the case, and he got released before the sun went down. “I guess it’s high time we move with the plan. I’m going to catch him this time around.” I placed the glass down with a thud. Marking my oath. Enzo wouldn’t be able to escape this time around. I’ll make sure of it. Not because I was also on the list, but because his game had to stop.
Xander leaned over the table with a deep frown and suspicion in his eyes. “We. We are. Don’t you dare ghost me, too, Chichi.” He warned. Yeah, I’ve been doing a lot of ghosting since Prince.
“Am I interrupting something?” A tall figure stood before us. My eyes travelled from his feet to his unreadable face.
“Obviously,” I uttered, bitterness spreading in my mouth. I wanted to fish him but tonight was for me, Xander and the business. Why did he have to be at the same club? I wasn’t even in a good mood.
“Mr. Conti.” Xander shook hands with him.
“Xander.” He uttered, “May I join you? My client is running late.”
“No!”
“Yes.”
I glared at Xander for inviting him to our private moment. He mouthed sorry while making room for him by moving to his side.
Instead of sitting there, Carmelo pushed me slightly as he sat on my side. No. Our thighs were literally touching under the table.
My nose flared, “What the—” He covered my mouth with his palm. A powerful scent hit my nose as he pressed it further. I fought the urge to bite it off. “I know you don’t like me. But it's just a drink.” He said. Our eyes locked, and I shut mine when I couldn’t stand getting lost in his dark ones anymore. I was never intimidated by a man’s gaze. Fuck.
~135~CarmeloLife has many colors, and amongst the number of them, I found the most appealing ones to me. Black and Gold. With a wild wolf cut and coldest plus most hypnotizing brown eyes I’ve ever seen. They were alone, powerful enough to have me on my knees and begging for mercy.A little dust of freckles on the cheeks and the sweetest lips that I’ll never get enough of. Kissing her lips or smooching her cheeks has become my thing. My beautiful color speaks a lot of languages, but money is her favorite, and I love to spoil the hell out of her.Fierce in the open with a gentle and delicate heart on the inside. A Grumpy facade that intends to push people away, but my teasing always manages to leave a crack behind it. Strong but never shy to show her vulnerabilities to me. Cold but sprinkles her kindness in her own way. Dangerous, but it’s the fire in her that made me lose my senses. And God oh God, I’d willingly get on my knees and let it burn me. I’m so madly, immensely, wholehearte
~134~ChiaraI bit my lips, staring at the reflection in the mirror. I walked out of the room and went straight to his office, swinging around a black silk handkerchief. Instead of knocking, I kicked the door open. Carmelo was on a business video conference. His gaze landed on me for a brief second before returning to the laptop. Oh, I came prepared, my love. I cleared my throat and then leaned against the door. I held the handkerchief between my teeth, raised my leg up, and started to take off my net leggings, dropped it down, and then did the same with the other one.I glanced back to find him staring at me. Good. I took off the kimono next. It pooled under my feet. His lips parted, and his eyes darkened. I raised my hands and ran them both through my hair. I was left in a red thong only. “Boss? What are your thoughts on the new decor proposal?” Instead of replying, he leaned back on his chair, adjusting himself.I gathered my hair over my shoulder. My fingers traced the outline
~133 part II~ChiaraLater that evening, I was officially Mrs Conti. People were busy as the ball kicked in because my mother-in-law said she wanted a ball for the wedding reception. Who was I to deny her? I let the woman do her thing. Carmelo, who was talking to his father at their table, walked toward me. I had gone to change and came back with a lace long-sleeve black dress that was just above my knees. I coupled it with my golden jewelry and my hair held up in a messy bun with a few strands let loose. Chelsea was the one who accompanied me. “I have the love gloves of all flavours in my possession, by the way. Just say the word.” She teased. I had gone to her for condoms one time because we ran out of them the night Carmelo asked to marry me for the first time. She hadn’t let that go yet. My lips curled up in mischief, “Thanks, Chelsea. The thing is… we’re doing it hard and raw tonight. No love gloves needed.” I said. She squealed and blurted, “Girl, shut up!” She bent over her
~133 part I~ChiaraOh, just when I thought the day was the best day of my life, the Contis weren’t done giving me heart attacks. I returned home to a surprise wedding ceremony. Of course, Carmelo knew everything. He planned this with both of our families throughout the year. And the fact that I caught no whiff of it shocked me. I was focused on the vacation and nothing else. There were a number of people waiting to tend to me because the ceremony had already begun. I washed up. Some did my hair, some did my face, and some were busy with my dress and jewelry. The dress and jewelry that Viva and Leo were making throughout the year, as per Carmelo's secret request. Everyone kept me in the dark. But also, everyone worked to make this day possible.I couldn’t describe how happy this made me. And I couldn’t cry because the makeup looked so amazing. So I just sat there. I was a ball of nerves and emotions waiting to explode. I was going to kill Melo. Mamma walked in after a while.“Goodne
~132~ChiaraWhen he told me I was going to love it, diving never crossed my mind.We stood by the edge of the boat and dived in together. I knew how to dive. What I wasn’t prepared for was the meters we went below. The blue shade of the water was getting darker. Different marine animals and fish species in different colors swam with us. I raised my hand to touch a group of small fish, zoning out at how beautiful and synchronized they were. But they avoided me like I was a plague.I felt a light tap on my shoulder. I turned to find the man frowning in his mask. He motioned for me to follow him. He was a natural with the water current, unlike my careful diving self. I’d never dived under the sea, just for starters. Then a large bronze statue came into view as we dived to it. The Christ of the Abyss. I’d heard about it before. It stood majestically on the seafloor with hands spread wide and raised upward. The head was also tilted upward. The statue stood on a sort of styled altar which
~131~CarmeloRight after landing in Italy, coming from our one year vacation, Chiara wanted to pass by Milan first before we head home, in Portofino. I escorted her to the graveyard, where she stood for a while without saying a word. Just staring and wiping the corner of her eye. Only God knew what went through her mind.Next, we stopped at Marco’s place. Yeah, he sold the previous mansion and bought another one at a different location within Milan. Where he and their mother, Laura, lived along with the remaining of their men. Marco freed those who wanted to walk away, too. Good news, he was planning on proposing to his long hidden girlfriend soon, and only I knew about it. Then we passed by her art gallery. Then we met with her therapist since his office was around the area. Her therapist said he loved her development. And I loved hearing that.I had my own plans for her, but I worked hard to keep them under wraps and not spoil them this whole time. The helicopter landed on our pro
