Chapter 4: The CEO’s Fury

Lily raced down the hallway, her heels clacking against the marble floor.

Her heart was pounding.

Her mind was screaming.

I just spilled coffee on Alexander Knight. The Alexander Knight. The man who probably fires people for breathing too loudly.

She skidded to a stop near the receptionist’s desk, hands on her knees, panting.

Melissa, the receptionist, gave her a pitying look.

"You’re still alive?" she asked.

"Barely," Lily wheezed. "But I think my career just died."

Melissa winced. "Yeah... spilling coffee on The Devil CEO on your first day? Not great."

Lily straightened, determined. "I have to fix this before he actually kills me."

Melissa tilted her head. "You mean before he fires you?"

Lily swallowed. "Right. That too."

Taking a deep breath, she yanked her phone out and started Googling the nearest designer stores.

If I get him a new shirt before he has a complete meltdown, maybe—just maybe—he won’t strangle me with his tie.

Afternoon: A Crash Course in Financial ReportsLily stared at the thick stack of documents on her desk like it was a pile of ancient scrolls written in a foreign language.Profit margins. Revenue projections. Market analysis.Everything looked like advanced calculus to her.Melissa strolled by, sipping her coffee. She peeked at Lily’s mountain of paperwork and whistled."Wow. Did Mr. Knight finally decide to crush your soul?"Lily groaned and dropped her head onto the desk. "He told me to ‘start learning’ or I won’t last the month."Melissa winced. "Oof. Classic Knight behavior."Lily lifted her head just enough to glare. "A little help here?"Melissa took a dramatic step back. "Oh, no. I like my job. You’re on your own, rookie."Lily glared harder.Melissa sighed. "Fine. I’ll explain the basics, but if Mr. Knight asks, I was never here."Lily clutched Melissa’s arm. "You’re an angel.""Yeah, yeah, let’s see if you still say that after this financial boot camp."Melissa grabbed a pen

You survived Day One. You can survive Day Two.She marched straight to her desk, determined to be the model employee today——only to be ambushed by an entire swarm of employees whispering behind their hands.Lily froze.“…Uh. Morning?” she greeted awkwardly.Silence.A few nervous glances were exchanged. A stifled giggle somewhere in the back. Then, Melissa popped out of nowhere, grabbed Lily’s arm, and dragged her to the side."We have a problem," Melissa whispered dramatically.Lily blinked. "Is it a fire? An earthquake? A zombie attack?""Worse."Melissa’s eyes darted around before she leaned in."Office. Gossip."Lily stared. "…Okay, that’s not worse than a zombie attack.""It is here!" Melissa hissed. "

  • Tangled in His Web   Chapter 3: First Day, First Disaster

Lily Carter stood in front of the elevator doors, clutching a steaming cup of coffee in one hand and her new employee ID in the other. Her heart thumped. She still couldn’t believe she got the job.Alexander Knight actually hired me?To be fair, the man didn’t exactly seem thrilled about it. In fact, his smirk before dismissing her yesterday still gave her goosebumps—not the good kind, but the what-have-I-gotten-myself-into kind.Still, a job was a job, and she needed this one.Squaring her shoulders, she inhaled deeply and stepped inside the elevator. The smooth jazz music did nothing to calm her nerves.Today was the start of her new life—and she was determined to prove Alexander wrong. What’s the worst that could happen?-----------------------The 47th floor of Knight Enterprises was a whole different world. It was nothing like the lower floors, where employees bustled in open cubicles. Up here, the atmosphere was colder, sharper, more powerful. The executive offices were lined wi

  • Tangled in His Web   Chapter 2: The Interview Disaster

Lily Carter burst into the lobby of Knight Enterprises, slightly out of breath, clutching her resume folder to her chest. The first thing she noticed was the silence. The place was nothing like the bustling corporate offices she had seen in movies. Instead, it was sleek, modern, and eerily quiet. The floors gleamed with black marble, and towering floor-to-ceiling windows bathed the space in soft morning light. Employees dressed in perfectly tailored suits moved with precision, their heels clicking against the polished floor.Everything about this place screamed discipline, perfection, and power. And here she was—wrinkled blouse, slightly messy hair, and a panicked expression that completely ruined any illusion of professionalism.Great first impression, Lily. Absolutely fantastic. She swallowed her nerves and approached the front desk, where a blonde receptionist sat, typing away on a keyboard."Hi! I’m Lily Carter. I have an interview for the Personal Assistant position with Mr. Knig

  • Tangled in His Web   Chapter 1: The Ice King

The sun had barely risen over Los Angeles when Alexander Knight strode into the sleek, glass-encased headquarters of Knight Enterprises. The city was alive, but inside his domain, everything operated like a well-oiled machine—silent, efficient, and devoid of chaos. Just the way he liked it.Dressed in a tailored black suit that fit his tall, athletic frame to perfection, Alex exuded power with every step. Employees straightened when they saw him, murmured greetings that he barely acknowledged, and some even held their breath as he passed. His presence was a force of nature—cold, calculated, and unshakable. As he approached the executive floor, his assistant, Rachel, hurried to match his long strides. "Your 8 a.m. meeting with the board is confirmed, sir. Mr. Reynolds from the London branch has requested a video call at ten, and the legal department needs your approval on the Parker acquisition contract before noon."Alexander didn’t slow his pace. "Schedule Reynolds for nine. Have leg
