Chapter 9

Ralph POV

It became windy, and I was covered in dirt, and my clothes were dishevelled. I wiped the dirt off my clothes and looked up at Lovette. She was standing on the other side of the garden.

Her long brunette hair blew in the wind. She had finished making the call, but I could tell that something was bothering her. She was standing still, staring off into the distance, her expression tense and worried.

As I watched her, I began to think about what could have caused this reaction.

"What's wrong?" I asked, approaching her. "Did something happen on the call?"

I could see the worry etched on Lovette's face as she stood motionless, staring off into the distance. I followed her gaze and saw nothing but the flowers in the garden and fields. The huge wind had whipped up a frenzy of dust and debris, making it nearly impossible to see more than a few feet in front of us.

"What's wrong?" I asked again, trying to wipe the dirt from my face and clothes. "Did you see something out there?"
