Of course Alan was sitting right behind his desk when I walked in.

"Weren't you supposed to be in a meeting?" I muttered.

He raised his eyes, looked at me for a long second, then called Noah in.

"Did I not make myself clear about not wanting visitors today?"

Noah's eyes flicked between us, catching the tension in the room before he answered carefully. "I thought she was the exception."

"Alan," I cut in, "face me. Leave Noah out of this." I turned to my brother. "Just go, Noah. Ignore him."

  • Teach Me How to Love You   CHAPTER 128

I went through my role, pay, and onboarding with Callum the next morning and started work.I found my rhythm there pretty quickly. The job did exactly what I needed it to do. It kept me busy, got me out of the apartment, and put me around people again—the annoying ones, the lovely ones, and everything in between. I started forming relationships with my coworkers, with Charlotte becoming the closest.Gradually, I started having a life in London.Charlotte and I hung out after work, and if she had a birthday party or somewhere interesting to be on the weekend, I usually ended up going with her. It didn't take long for Charlotte to become part of my life outside work too.She found out about the pregnancy after offering me alcohol while we were hanging out. I'd turned it down, and with all the symptoms she'd already noticed, there wasn't much point hiding it from her.Once she figured out the father wasn't in the picture, she started looking out for me in every little way.Our friendship

“I should've known today wasn't going to be a good day when I slept through my alarm,” I muttered, turning for the door.“Where are you going?”I glanced back at him. “Leaving, obviously. I'm not giving you the satisfaction of getting even.”“Who said I wanted to get even?”I narrowed my eyes.He leaned back in his chair. “You're here for an interview, aren't you?”I nodded slowly.“Then sit.”I didn't move.He picked up my résumé. “Sit, Nora. Unless you're no longer interested in the job.”He sounded far too amused when he said my name.If he was willing to give me a chance after our not-so-pleasant encounter, I wasn't going to waste it. I took the seat while he removed his suit jacket, tossed it onto the couch and turned his attention to my résumé.“Waitress. Flower sales.” His eyes moved down the page. “You have customer service experience, but this is a little different. We cater mostly to...” He paused, then looked at me. “Wealthy clients. Think you can handle that, or does that

NORAMy main reason for going to see Noah before I left was to drop off the letters.Craig happened to see me when I arrived and stopped to tell me he was moving to England temporarily. His company was sending him there for work. It was a funny coincidence, considering England was the exact country I had already decided to move to.Italy had been my first choice, but I'd changed my mind. Alan could accidentally run into me there. Spencer too. England felt safer, and finding out Craig would be there made the decision easier.I told him I was moving too, and somewhere in the conversation, I admitted things weren't going well with my husband and I needed to get away for a while. I didn't give him the details. While Craig was consoling me, I noticed Alan pull up.I couldn't help hoping when I saw him. Maybe he'd regretted everything he'd said and had come back because he wanted our baby. But after sitting there for a while, he drove off without even getting out of the car. So much for tha

ALANTristan sat beside me, still looking like he wanted to punch me.“Damn, Alan. How did you let things get this bad? You made Nora do what?”I couldn't answer.“Where is she?”“She left. Went back to her place and blocked me everywhere.”“Then we'll go and bring her back.” He picked up the first-aid kit and resumed cleaning my knuckles. “But not like this. You need to get yourself together first. For a start, forgive yourself.”“Forgive myself?”“Yes. Your only crime was loving the wrong woman. And as fucked up as everything you just found out is, it's good you found that diary. Imagine spending the rest of your life mourning someone like her.”“I don't even know which is worse. Carrying on without knowing or finding out all of this at once.”“Finding out,” Tristan said. “At least now you can actually move on with your life instead of staying in the same hole you've been stuck in for years.”“What if Nora never forgives me?” My voice cracked. “I love her, Tristan. I fucking love he

AlanMaddox was Amy's cousin. At least, that was what she'd always told me.So what the hell did she mean by making Maddox believe she loved him?My hands started trembling. My mind was already forming an answer, but I refused to believe it. There had to be another explanation. Something I was missing.I picked up the diary and turned the page, hoping I'd misunderstood. But the more I read, the harder it became to breathe.Maddox had never been Amy's cousin. He was the man she loved. She'd followed him to our college, hoping he would finally make their relationship public. Instead, he'd come up with a plan to use me for money, and Amy had gone along with it.I kept reading, and every page exposed another lie.My money had paid Maddox's bills. Trips. Clothes. Rent. Whatever he needed. Whenever Amy asked for money for herself or her family, I'd given it without question. Then I reached an entry about Christmas.I remembered that one. Amy had spent most of it crying in my arms because, a

ALANI thought I knew pain. I'd experienced it in its rawest form before, but I'd been kidding myself.Watching Nora leave the kitchen with proof that our baby no longer existed taught me there were still places inside me pain hadn't reached.I'd stayed up all night after our conversation, finally forcing myself to confront everything I'd been running from. By morning, I'd realized just how badly I'd handled things. That was why I had come home early. I'd been waiting for Nora, rehearsing what I wanted to say, trying to find the right words to explain my fears and admit that I'd been a jerk. But I'd waited too long.I should've found those words yesterday when she was sitting in front of me asking if I wanted our baby.Part of me wanted to be angry with her for going through with it so quickly, but I couldn't. What right did I have? She'd told me she wanted the baby, and instead of giving her one reason to believe we could figure it out together, I'd panicked.I grabbed the glass in f
