Rhea POV

The moment the door to his bedroom shut, I collapsed to my knees, trembling like my bones were made of glass.

My heart was racing so fast it actually hurt.

How could I have been so stupid—lying in his bed, and worse, caught by him while he was practically naked?

I should be grateful he didn’t kill me on the spot… or punish me far worse.

“Be my mistress.”

His voice echoed in my head and I groaned, covering my face.

Why would he ask me that? He clearly didn’t want me as his mate—rightfully so—so why not just reject me like any sane person would? Instead, he wanted me in his bed, probably to satisfy whatever urges came with the bond.

But still… wouldn’t it have been better if he had rejected me? He wouldn’t feel the bond and at least then I wouldn’t have to see him every day. At least then I could breathe.

But I couldn’t reject him either. That was the worst part.

I forced myself back up, my knees still shaky while trying to calm the storm in my chest.
