Chapter 3 (my keys)

After having a very delicious lunch in the Ginny restaurant we strolled back to my apartment which was off campus--it was just ten minutes walk from campus.

When we reached the building I greeted Lewis who was our Gardner, he was tall and quite old, probably in his early 60s, but he was very friendly and he always wore a beaming smile on his face.

I fished for my keys in my handbag when we arrived at my doorstep.

"I can't find my keys," I alarmed Emily and continued searching for my room keys, after twenty minutes of a fruitless search for my room keys, I gave up. I turned to Emily and she immediately understood the situation we were in.

"Don't worry yourself too much, Dakota," she said calmly and I began wondering why she was thus calm. She's always calm in times like this. Didn't she know that we are stranded here without my keys?

"Relax, Dakota, you gotta learn how to worry less, Dakota." Relax really? Every fragment of me was worried about my room keys, if I lose them, it would be catastrophic. How would I relax about this?

"For goodness sake, Emily, I can't find my room keys we can't go to the party if I don't find them because I won't be able to change my clothes." I explained to her.

"I know." She replied.

If she knew why was she so relaxed?

"So, what are we going to do?" I placed my hands on my hips waiting for her to say something.

"Nothing," was her reply.

I guess I will sleep in the streets today.

"I am tired of-"

"Relax, I have the spare keys." She said and brought out a bunch of keys. How did she get them?

"How did you get them?" I voiced my thoughts and she grinned.

"You gave them to me, have you forgotten?" She said and sighed.

I just remembered that I gave them to her earlier this month when I changed my keys to a new one. I wasn't any good at remembering and keeping things, so I gave most of my things to Emily to keep for me in case something like this happened, she was like my storehouse.

"You don't have to worry about every single thing, you have to relax and think." She said and facepalmed herself.

"You see, you have to relax and think," she repeated. I know she has said this for the hundredth time if I could recall, she always told me that in times like this. Now could she just give me the spare keys?

I know she made some sense in her statement but I was never relaxed and I worried about every single thing.

She dangled the bunch of keys in my face and I tried collecting them from her but she moved her hands backwards.

I frowned.

"I'm not ready to play a get-it-if-you-can game with you, Emily, just give me my keys," I said biting my lips, I needed to do something to collect the keys from her unless I would be here all day.

I tried reaching for the spare keys again but she raised her hand above my head.

Was she mocking me cause of my petite height?

"I know you are taller than I am but please can I have the spare keys back." I practically beg her jumping like a grasshopper trying to get the spare keys from her hand. I knew that I was short and she was taller than I am, I was 5'2 and Emily was 5'9. I went through a lot in secondary school because of my height.

"I just gave you some advice, what are you supposed to say?" She raised an eyebrow.

"I don't know what to say." I stopped jumping and placed my hands on my hips, demanding my keys.

"You have to learn some manners, Cruise." She narrowed her eyes and I rolled my eyes.

"Thank you," I said in a sluggish tone and she smiled.

"Learn how to use the magic words quite often, Emily" She told me pinching the bridge of her nose.

She tossed the key at me and I gladly caught it. I opened the room door and headed straight to my room and crashed onto my bed. My apartment was a very small one, it was a one-bedroom flat with a living room, a kitchen and a bedroom. My room was very small and only a small bed, a study desk and a small wardrobe could fit in it. My room was small but very beautiful, I spent a lot of time decorating the room, I had many artistic posters in my room, I added glitters to the tiles and I also installed colourful led lights in the room.

My apartment was small but I loved it.

"Home sweet home," I said with my voice muffled by my mattress.

"Get your lazy ass off the bed and let's prepare for tonight." She dragged my legs and I crashed on the tiled floor.

Ouch.

"I don't want to go again," I faked crying and Emily rolled her eyes. "I want to stay here."

Here was so comfortable that I was finding it difficult to leave, I wanted to spend the rest of my day on my bed and in the dream world.

"Don't even say that." She glared at me. "So you don't want to attend the frat party again?" She asked in a scary voice and I gulped.

"Yes, I will," I said sighing, there was no getting out of this. "But I won't stay long."

Emily became happy and started jumping around my room like a loose frog.

"Alright, let's get you dressed up," she said with a big smile on her face--the biggest I have ever seen.

She headed to my small wooden wardrobe and began searching for the clothes I would wear to the party which I was strongly against attending.

"Why is Luke like that?" I asked and lay on my bed once more, I was still thinking about my encounter with Luke, I did not know why I could not forget it, anytime I close my eyes all I could see was him.

"How the hell do you expect me to know, I'm not his mama," she said, her hands still busy looking for a dress for me in my wardrobe.

"I know there are some reasons why he behaves like that, do you know?" I paused, I know that it seemed like I was a stalker but I didn't care I just wanted to find out more about him, there was this curiosity in me which was all about him that I want to quench so badly. "I know that you know a lot of things happening on campus, so you should know some things about him."

Emily heaved a sigh and her facial expression said it all; she knew nothing! What she knew about him was what everyone knew about him, a new student who never talks with anyone, handsome and breathtaking though but as silent as a graveyard. I could remember vividly the few seconds I was with him, and I nearly choked because of his scary aura which was as thick as a fog...what was he really?
