The way her dress flowed behind her when she walked up and down the stairs with Wes by her side. "Hey." Bart snapped his fingers. Nick blinked. "You do realise I was there with you. I-I was at the fundraiser."

Nick raised his eye brows. "You were weren't you?"

"Yes. I was."

"I-"

"Of course you didn't notice. Not when you were so busy-" Bart drew back once he realised. "No way." He scoffed in disbelief.

"What?"

He scoffed in disbelief. "What?"Bart sat forward, assessing his friend. "No way." He laughed. "Are you for real?" "What?!" Months of succumbing to Lucille's punishment. Like every other day, once she saw him, she stepped aside and let him in. And every time he said hi, she'd look away and reply. That didn't stop her from being hospitable enough to ask if he would like a drink or eat. And just like always... well, most times when she wasn't busy working or out, she'd sit a couch away with the TV killing off the silence or music playing. She had a way of acting like he wasn't there. T

Bryan rubbed his right temple, feeling a headache coming on. Quincy eyed him before looking away. "Why are you okay with this?" "Why aren't you?" Quincy's eyes came back to him, then rested on his hands. His eyebrows furrowed. "She's your daughter.""This isn't about her." He spoke so calmly. As opposed to the worry in Bryan's voice. "How is it not? This concerns her too. It's her child.""It's his child as well. And our grandson." "I can't believe this is coming from you." He shook his head, crossing his legs and looking away. "This isn't about me either.""Damn it man!" Quincy looked up with hooded eyes. "You do know Nick is aware of what he's done?" Bryan nodded. "He needs his father." Bryan rubbed the side of his face, shaking his head. He laughed. "I don't know why you're so hell bent on protecting her from him. You weren't there when He came over the first time. Or the times after that. She doesn't need you." He glared at Bryan. "Or

Burnt rubber waft the air. The sound of tires screeching as they turned corners, racing past each other with fierce speed. Lucille pointed at the blue race car with the number thirteen on it the Lawes company logo plastered on the driver's door. "Wes is in third." She bounced Marvin on her lap. Excitement coursed through her when his car passed the second, taking it's place. Nina screamed for some reason. Everyone around them had their eyes on the racing cars screaming at their choices to speed up. "You know I love you Luce." Nina spoke over the loud noise of revving cars and yelling people. "But I don't understand why you let him in. Not to mention allowing him to stay." Lucille glanced at her. "Okay fine. It was cool at first, cause he only got to look at him for a second and leave." "He's only going to hang out with him for a bit. And if I wanted I can make him leave after five minutes. You should have seen the look on his face. He hates what I'm doing. But he knows

Last time he was at her place she slammed the door on him. No different from the last three to four times. Except he tried to hold the door and had his fingers slammed with it. Had to push all the documents he had to sign to Bart. What was it, a day after Bryan told him what his mother had said? Nina had been there. Spouting words he couldn't remember thanks to one too many drinks hours later. Yet here he was again, ready to do what he'd been trying to do more times than he could count. This time, he came with flowers in his good hand... his left hand. The one with the scar. She'd cut him way deep. No suit. A grey shirt and jeans. It was unlike him. But what she saw standing there was a man who was out of his zone. Red eyes, unkempt hair, bandaged right fingers and maybe something else. She didn't pity him. She didn't regret what happened last time he came over. She knew as she assessed him, he had to be wondering what exactly was keeping her from shutting the door again

His car pulled up in front of a hotel. He grabbed a plastic bag from the passenger seat before getting out. He tossed his car keys into the hands of an eager valet who couldn't keep from drooling over the car. He wasn't the only valet drooling, he was just the lucky one. He headed into the hotel with his destination in mind and worry lines on his face. After Lucille took the bag from him and gave him a smile that reduced his worry lines, they settled on the couch a few feet away from the bed where Marvin slept behind them and the television on in front of them. Lucille looked at Wes and sighed. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have bothered you, you just flew in." He smiled, searching her beautiful eyes. "It's okay. Nothing stopped me from refusing." "But you must be tired." "Well, I had been practicing before I came back. My hands are a bit stiff from holding the steering wheel tight all day but I'm used to it. It's no big deal." "At least you got some rest on t

Something hung in the air. But neither of them noticed. Rather they did but they were too busy talking to pay it any mind. Not when they drove into the compound or when they passed Charles when they got in with a look of... something they saw outside on his face. Nina glared for a second then waved it off. What was it? It was defeat. Each one wanted so badly to inform the girls but couldn't under orders. So instead they looked guilty and sad because they were about to be ambushed. They were betraying them. At least it felt that way. Especially for Charles who still didn't mind looking the other way if Lucille decided to kill their intruder. Hell, he'll help. While they rambled on all the way to the dinning hall, Mattie came out of nowhere. "Hi girls." "Hi." They chorused, laughing."Hi darling." She smiled at Marvin in Nina's arms stroking his cheek gently with her index finger. He smiled and she smiled brighter. They all did. "Can I take him?" "Yeah?" Nina handed him over

She wasn't the only one dazed by the news. Madison however, recovered faster than both girls did. Geegee was having trouble digesting the words the doctor said. Lucille found herself standing in the corner of the room hoping the edge would open up and swallow her. She blinked rapidly, her ey

He'd done it again. Granted, it was only the second time, but he'd watched her getting into another car from his window. His head fell back over the back his couch, body slanting and arms spread out. What possessed him to speak as he had? Regret and guilt made him weak. And to think he'd left

Strange, it didn't feel like she was in her room. Granted, a few times she'd felt that way on her bed. But for some reason, she knew once she opened her eyes, she'd find herself on a strange bed. Her eyes opened slowly. Damn it, she was right. She sat up abruptly upon realising. Crap, Nick At

The loud ringing of His phone pulled him out of his sleep. He inhaled deeply as his eyes flew open. His vision a bit blurred, making him rub his eyes while sitting up from the couch he had passed out on and reaching for the phone. "Yeah." He said, stuffing his hand into the right corner of the couc
