FLASHBACK - FIVE YEARS AGO

“Has your boyfriend not called you yet?” My roommate, Madeline, questioned when she saw me staring at my phone for the umpteenth time that afternoon.

I shook my head, no. Caspian and I were supposed to go on a date last night, but he never showed up. For a while, I wondered if he had forgotten he was meant to pick me up and I went to the restaurant myself but he hadn’t checked in the reservation. Against all odds, I decided to wait for him but there was no point since he never came last night.

At first, I was mad at him. Then, I got worried because Caspian was not the kind of guy to stand me up and not tell me beforehand. I left a ton of messages but none of them were opened.

I was going to wait a few more hours. If I didn’t get a reply, I was going to go to his place. We had been dating for two years since my freshman year. He’d been a junior at the time and graduated some months ago, but we were still able to see each other regularly.
