Zinnia

“Girl what did you do?” My best friend asked and I rolled my eyes. I was sure her brother had gone to gossip about the situation today.

He was being a jerk and he deserved it.

“I didn’t do anything he didn’t deserve okay? Your brother was being an absolute jerk. Can you believe that stupid manager embarrassed my sister and me?”

“He called us low lives Elinda, and screamed at us in front of so many people. He even referred to us as “cheap girls”. I so badly wanted to smack his face.”

I was fuming just reliving the whole situation again. They really did get on my nerves today.

“Wyatt is just like that. He’s kind of very overprotective of my brother.” Elinda replied, still laughing.

I had no idea why she found the whole situation funny. It wasn’t making any sense to me. Her brother bullied me.

“If not for the president's niece standing up for us, I wondered what would have happened.” I fumed, crossing my hands on my chest and she laughed even more.

Elinda threw her head back causing her phone to fall on the bed. I couldn’t see her face any longer, just the sight of her rumpled duvet.

“Nothing would have happened Zinnia, you’re a tough nut to crack. My brother even complained that you forced him to apologize on camera.”

“That’s a punch to his ego, you know.”

Oh wow, so he really went to talk about me to his sister? I must have done my big one then because I thought he was a cold hearted monster who didn’t give a damn about anyone.

“Maybe he should use the time he spent talking about me to fix his attitude.” I rolled my eyes. She had picked her phone back up and was now looking at me with a smile on her face.

“Hold on now… he wasn’t even talking about you like that. He just wasn’t too pleased about the situation.”

“In fact, he came home for the first time in a really long while, just to tell me you’re in a lot of trouble.” She explained and the cocky smile vanished from my face.

“What??” I asked in shock.

“He really did say that Zi, he also said the next time you see him, you should walk the other way or run because it’ll save you a lot of trouble.” She added and I felt chills run down my spine.

Elinda burst out laughing again and I frowned, remaining silent.

“You need to see your face Zinnia, I’ve never seen you that tongue-tied.” She cleaned the corner of her eyes still leaking from tears just from the sheer intensity of laughter.

“It’s not funny, Elinda Reed, your brother is a total psycho and I do not want him sending his fan girls over me.” I murmured and she frowned.

“Okay enough with the name calling. My brother isn’t a psycho, but I apologize on his behalf. He’s just really…”

“You know what? My brother might not be your cup of tea, so there’s no need to drink him. Just do your best to avoid him, okay.” She advised and I nodded.

Heck yeah. I intended to avoid him as if my life depended on it. Who would want to get into a dispute with Dylan Reed?

I didn’t know where the confidence came from today but I sure as hell didn’t want our paths to cross again.

“So tell me, when are you going to come see me? Or at least make up time for us to meet. It’s been so long since we spent time together. I miss my best friend.”

I watched as she pouted her lips and looked at me with those doe eyes of hers I couldn’t say no to.

“Okay fine, I’ll come see you I promise. I just want to secure this contract first. I believe that after I get it every other thing is going to fall into place.” I said and she nodded.

“Besides…” I drawed out. I used my fingers to make some drumming noise to give it that effect like I wanted to drop some vital information.

This was vital too, this is very big for me. If I got the contract, I could finally stop worrying and leave a little.

“I have a meeting in WilderSphere tomorrow morning. Geo Wilder gave me another chance for an interview.” I announced and we both squealed happily.

“I know you’re going to get it. I believe in you.” She said and I smiled.

“Thank you very much.” I yawned tiredly. “I need to sleep now, I’ll see you tomorrow when I have good news,” I said and she nodded happily.

We said our goodbyes and I love yous before the conversation ended. Tomorrow was going to be a long day and I needed to rest early to prepare for it.

…..

The next morning, I woke up very early, took a shower, and dressed up quickly. I wasn’t about to let a repeat of what occurred yesterday happen.

No late coming today.

When I was down, I knocked on Ailany’s room to see she was ready and we set out together. She had promised to come with me today as a way to make up for yesterday and I agreed.

Once we got to the corporation, we quickly made our way upstairs and finally, I found the office of Juliet Wilder. The office had a transparent glass so I could see she was inside with her husband.

They seemed to be arguing.

“Wait for me at the lobby, okay.” I said to Ailany and she left after kissing me Goodluck.

The door to the office opened and Geo walked out giving me a very bright smile.

“Come in,” Juliet ordered and I rushed in.

“You’re early.” She looked at me from my head to my toes as if sizing me. “That’s a change for a start.” She added and I rubbed my palm nervously.

“I had a quarrel with my husband about this and he insists you’re the best person for the job. I don’t give second chances and I’m going against my rule here for you.” She paused and glared at me.

“But since he has such faith in you, you’re employed.” She revealed and I gasped.

Wow…

Wait…

Does this mean I have gotten the contract?

“You’re going to serve as a Concierge to Dylan Reed for 30 days.” She dropped the bombshell and I frowned.

What the hell does that mean? A concierge to Mr. Popular?

But, that wasn’t what I applied for. Was she mistaking?

Dylan“She had kissed me back, so she must want me too”. That was all I kept thinking about throughout the entire ride home. I sat in the backseat staring out the window while the city lights blurred past, but every few minutes, my mind kept replaying the same thing. The kiss. All I could see was Zinnia and the way she froze for half a second before kissing me back. I could still hear that soft, desperate moan she fed into my mouth when my tongue found hers. The way her body melted against me like she’d been starving for the same thing I had.“Fuck!!” I cussed, jaw tightening as my fingers drummed on my knee. I could still feel the silk of her hair tangled in my fist and the perfect curve of her ass in my palms when I grabbed her. What about the kiss??It wasn’t gentle at all!! It was raw, reckless, and the most alive I’d felt in years. That was why my expression changed the moment she called it a mistake. How could something that felt so right be a mistake?? I didn’t like the f

  • Tempted by my Best Friend’s Brother    Chapter 34: It Was a Mistake

ZinniaThe kiss wasn’t exactly gentle; it was desperate and filled with a kind of longing I didn’t even know existed in me.His lips moved against mine with bruising intensity, and I responded instantly, threading my fingers into his hair and tugging him closer like I feared he was going to vanish if I let him go. My brain was reminding me to break off the kiss!!! My mind was screaming at me, reminding me this was my best friend's brother and my boss. I was kissing Dylan fucking Reed in public, but I just couldn’t break the kiss off.No matter how much my brain was against it, my body couldn’t deny it anymore.I was attracted to this man, and I wanted him so bad. Dylan deepened the kiss titling my head to claim me more fully as our tongues battled for dominance. I moaned into the kiss, my body melting into his.My legs had suddenly turned to jelly, and I was fully leaning into his. If we broke off the kiss now, I would have to take a moment to steady myself or risk falling. His bi

  • Tempted by my Best Friend’s Brother    Chapter 33: The First Kiss

ZinniaAfter the conversation with Juliet in the bathroom, my mood had gone from happy to sour in split seconds. I couldn’t even tell what I was sad about. If it was due to the fact that she was concerned I was going to spoil her business, and practically called me unprofessional to my face. Or if it was the fact that she was reminding me yet again that her staff couldn’t frolic with clients, clients in this case being *Dylan.I couldn’t even understand it, but for some reason, I was very sad when the Dylan thing came up. I mean, I knew that I couldn’t have anything to do with him.First of all, he was my boss, and I was just his concierge. Secondly, the client and staff relationship was banned in WilderSphere, and the second they get an inkling of it, I’ll be fired. Not only that, we were worlds apart. Dylan was at the very top of the food, and I was at the bottom, how could anything ever happen between us? Even if let’s say it were to happen, what about Elinda? She was my best fri

  • Tempted by my Best Friend’s Brother    Chapter 32: The Walk

DylanI knew something was wrong the second Zinnia came out of the venue. Because tell me why when everyone else was busy saying their goodbyes.Zinnia looked distracted, like she was physically here but mentally somewhere else.Meanwhile, her mean boss was cheerfully talking to some investors, Wyatt was somewhere being Wyatt, while her usual bubbly self was cold and detached. I didn’t like it.I liked it even less because I knew exactly when it started. This broodiness of hers started right after she disappeared into the powder room.I didn’t need a magician to tell me something had happened in there. Something she hadn’t told me about, but was powerful enough to put her in such a foul mood. For some reason that bothered me more than it should have, but maybe it was because I considered her a….My thoughts were suddenly interrupted when the valet pulled the car around. I turned to look at it, then shook my head.“No,” I muttered, and Wyatt frowned.“No, what?” He asked. “No car, I

  • Tempted by my Best Friend’s Brother    Chapter 31: The Dinner Date

ZinniaBy the time I got back from work that evening, there was a garment bag hanging on my apartment door with my name attached to it.I shook my head because I already knew who was responsible before I even opened it. This had Dylan written all over it, but what surprised me the most was how fast he was able to send over a dress to my house.Like what??One minute, I was over at his place with him, convincing me that the only way he could attend the dinner party was if I tagged along as his date.I accepted begrudgingly because I needed him to attend, and if me being his date was what it would take, then so be it. I carried the dress inside, and the second I unzipped the bag, my mouth fell open. The dress was beautiful, no, beautiful was an understatement. It was elegant, classy, and somehow exactly my style. And the surprising part was that it fit perfectly, like somebody had taken my measurements in my sleep. How was it possible that Dylan knew my exact size? “Wow,” I muttered,

  • Tempted by my Best Friend’s Brother    Chapter 30: You’re Coming With Me

ZinniaSomehow, I finally got Dylan to change his mind, and he promised me to stay until my time as his concierge was over. We called a truce, and honestly, the next few days have been so peaceful I could hardly believe I was genuinely having a hard time working with him the first few days. It was officially 15 days until my contract as his concierge was over, and I was beginning to have mixed feelings about leaving because, for one…I was sincerely beginning to enjoy my job as his concierge, but that does not dispute the fact that I wanted bigger and better things for myself.Of course not, I still wanted to take Zinnia Pro to higher places and bag that contract with WilderSphere. But for now, I was genuinely enjoying this life.Dylan and I got sort of closer, and when he wasn’t busy with work, and I wasn’t so overwhelmed with the day job, we spent our time talking about music and, surprisingly, more personal things. He wasn’t as bad as I thought, and maybe that arrogant personalit

ZinniaI hated banks. No seriously, I genuinely believed banks were one of the most depressing places on earth.Everything about them screamed stress, suffering, and “your account balance is about to ruin your mental health.”And unfortunately for me… Here I was again.I sat quietly in the uncomfor

TravisI didn’t chase women. That had always been my rule. Women were the ones who chased me, begging to be ruined by me and one night was all I gave every single one of them. It was simple and less complicated that way. So why the hell had I spent the last seven days trying to find one girl I ba

Zinnia I woke up this morning with my heart in my ass because, after all the craziness of last night, I half-expected Dylan to fire me. To be fair not even half expected. I fully expected him to fire me but surprisingly he just acted like nothing was wrong. Like he didn’t try to kiss me last nigh
