LOGINWhile on break at work, I turned on my phone and checked the messages from my friends in the group chat.
Elizabeth: Bar later. You guys good to go? Lana: I’m coming! Elizabeth: Cool. How about you, @Ruelle? I typed a reply. Me: I can’t. I’m busy. As soon as my shift was over, I went straight home. I showered, changed clothes, and then wait in front of Xerces’ house. His car wasn’t there, and the lights inside were off, so I knew he wasn’t home yet. An hour had passed, and he still hadn’t come home. I was already freezing, swatting away mosquitoes. I turned my phone on and entertained myself by scrolling through social media while waiting. Then I clicked on the story of one of Xerces’s close friends—Dash. It was a shot taken inside a bar. I was about to swipe to the next story when my eyes snapped to something familiar. Even with the dim lighting, I recognized him. It was Xerces. He was holding a glass of liquor. My brows shot up, and my blood instantly boiled the moment I saw a woman sitting next to him. I didn’t waste a second and went back to my house to change into something else. I drove to the bar; fortunately, it was nearby. The place wasn’t crowded, so I didn’t have a hard time finding him. Before I could get close, a familiar voice called my name. “Ruelle!” My eyes widened when I saw Elizabeth and Lana. They were at this bar too? Great. And since Xerces and his friends were sitting just across from us, I immediately got his attention. He was staring at me intensely while the girl beside him kept flirting with him. I smiled at him. “I thought you were busy?” Elizabeth asked as soon as I sat down. She raised an eyebrow, looking at me as if she were interrogating me. There were two guys at our table—their flings for the night. “I was… earlier,” I said casually. I grabbed one of the drinks on the table and downed it in one go. I looked straight at Xerces. He was facing our table, so I could see his face. His eyes shot to me, and I expected him to look away, just like he always does, but I was wrong. He held my gaze as he reached for the girl’s jaw and crashed his lips against hers. The girl responded without hesitation. I didn’t look away, watching them kiss fiercely. The girl’s hand was on his chest, caressing it. His hand was on her bosom, aggressively groping it. Just as she was about to unbutton his shirt, he grabbed her hand and stopped her. Confusion showed on her face. “Then why are you here? You didn’t even tell us you were coming with us. Unless… you’re here for someone, are you?” Our gaze broke the moment Elizabeth spoke again. She was already busy with the guy beside her, who was kissing her bare neck. I smiled and nodded. “Hey, get a fucking room!” I snapped at Lana, who was already making out with her fling. She ignored me and continued with what she was doing. “Who? Your new boyfriend?” asked Elizabeth. “You already moved on?!” Lana exclaimed, nudging the guy next to her. I still haven’t told them about Xerces, and I don’t have any plans to do so until he’s mine. “You think he’s the only man I could have? You might want to remember who I really am.” They chuckled. “Oh, yeah. You’re such a flirt.” “Just wait and see.” I drank the remaining alcohol in my glass. A new round of drinks they’d ordered arrived, so I kept myself busy with that. As much as I wanted to grab someone to keep me company for the night, I couldn’t—especially now that I knew Xerces was watching me. Hours passed, and I’d already had quite a lot to drink. I tensed up when I saw him stood. He might be going to the bathroom, so I got up to follow him. He went into the men’s room, so I waited outside. I leaned against the wall and closed my eyes tightly. I was dizzy. “What the fuck are you doing here again, woman?” I straightened up when I heard his irritated voice. He had already come out. “Is she your girlfriend?” His eyebrows shot up. “What?” “The girl you were with earlier. She isn’t, is she?” “I don’t do girlfriends.” “Good,” I murmured. “What?” I stepped closer to him. “Can I apply for the position?” “Apply for what?” “To be your girlfriend,” I said bluntly. “My application is always open. Just tell me if you’re interested in hiring me.” “No,” he said firmly. “Yes.” Before he had a chance to respond, I pressed my lips against his. He was about to push me away, but I wrapped my arms around his neck and deepened the kiss. He didn’t respond at first, but I continued to move my lips. I pressed my body against his, my breasts pressed against his hard chest. Maybe it was the effect of the alcohol that made him eventually kiss me back. I let out a soft moan when he held my shoulders and pushed me against the wall. Our kiss grew more aggressive, like two starving animals finally tearing into their prey. I could taste the strong alcohol in his mouth, and I knew he could taste the same in mine. I moaned softly as his lips trailed down to my neck, gently biting it. His hands roamed around my body. He lowered the neckline of my dress and slid his hands inside. My hands landed in his hair, curling and gripping it as he played with my peak. “Oh God,” I moaned. “You like that? Hmm?” His hoarse voice turned me on even more. I swear it sounds as sexy as he is. I was about to touch him down there, but then he pulled himself away from me as if he’d finally realized what we were doing. “Oh fuck,” he muttered frustratedly.I was the first to end the conversation when more than half an hour had passed and Xerces still hadn’t returned. I stood up and started looking for him.He wouldn’t just leave me, would he?I went inside Apollo’s house. Some guests had already moved indoors. I scanned the area, weaving through small groups of people. The place wasn’t crowded, yet I couldn’t spot him anywhere. Where the hell did he go?I stepped out into the front yard to check if he had already left. Seeing his car still parked nearby, I relaxed.I was about to head back in when someone called my name.“Ruelle?”I turned toward the voice. It was dark, but I could make out a figure leaning against the wall. The smell of smoke hit me, making me instinctively cover my nose as he took a drag.He pushed himself off the wall and slowly walked over to me. When the light finally hit his face, I got a clear look at him.“Looking for someone?” he asked.
“Happy birthday,” I said as I handed him my gift.He took it, smiling warmly. “Thank you, Ruelle.”His gaze shifted to the side, landing on Xerces. I had to elbow him subtly, just enough to signal him to say something. I even caught the soft, annoyed exhale he let out.“Happy birthday,” he muttered flatly.I frowned at the tone, which sounded more like he was commenting on some unfortunate news than celebrating.I nudged him again, quietly whispering, “Smile.”He ignored me, so I forced myself into a small smile instead. Apollo chuckled faintly at my effort.Seraphina approached us, radiant in a blue dress that flattered her figure and highlighted her flawless skin.“Happy birthday,” she said to Apollo, her voice light and airy.Apollo smiled gently and thanked her. They exchanged a few words before she faced us. Her face lit up the moment her eyes landed on Xerces. She stepped closer and hugged him war
After a while, some of his friends started leaving the table, heading off to find girls they could flirt with. Soon enough, only the three of us were left. “Wanna dance?” Zeus asked. I nodded without hesitation. I’d already had a bit too much to drink, and the dizziness was starting to set in; my vision was slightly blurred. Good thing Zeus quickly wrapped an arm around my waist when I stood, steadying me before I could lose my balance. “You good?” he asked. I held onto his arm for support and gave him a small smile, assuring him I was fine. “How about you, dude? You really gonna stay here all by yourself?” Zeus teased. I glanced at Xerces. He was sitting with one leg crossed over the other, idly playing with the rock glass in his hand. He didn’t even bother looking at us. “I prefer it that way,” he replied curtly. “Suit yourself.” Zeus pulled me tow
I walked over to the bar counter and slid onto an empty bar stool, ordering a drink right away. My eyes wandered around the place. Some people were lost in the music, their bodies moving wildly on the dance floor. Others were pressed close together, too busy making out to care about anything else. A few stayed in the corners, focused on their drinks and quiet conversations. I had just finished my second glass when someone came up beside me. “Hey there, gorgeous.” I looked up and saw a handsome guy holding a drink. Even though I knew I looked good tonight, I still glanced around just to make sure he was actually talking to me. When I confirmed he was, that was the only time I responded. “Yes?” “Being alone doesn’t suit someone as pretty as you,” he said smoothly. I didn’t really mind being alone tonight, but since he was already here, I figured, why not entertain it?
Before heading to work, I stopped by Xerces’s house to get something from him. Unlike in the past weeks, he opened the door almost right away. His features were relaxed and composed, which only happens once in a while.“You’re gonna eat here again?” he guessed, leaning against the doorframe.I let out a small laugh and shook my head.I hadn’t had breakfast yet, but that wasn’t what brought me here. Lately, I’ve been feeling like I’ve been gaining weight, so I figured I should start cutting back.“I’m on a diet,” I told him.His brows drew together. His gaze slowly traveled from my head down to my feet, then back up again.“In that body?” he asked, a hint of disbelief in his tone.I pouted a little. Was he saying I was already fat?“I’m just here to get a kiss.”“Kiss?” he echoed, clearly thrown off.I nodded, stepping a little closer. “Did you forget we’re supposed to kiss more often?”He frowned slightly, as if he were trying to recall when we even agreed on that. It didn’t take long
I didn’t go back to his house that day, leaving my phone with him. Good thing I had a spare to use in the meantime. Two days had already passed, and part of me still hoped he would show up at my door and apologize. I would stand outside my house around the time he usually got home from work, hoping that if he saw me, he might finally realize his mistake and say something. But since his ego was too high, he would just ignore me as if he had done nothing wrong. The last bit of hope I had finally crashed when another day passed, and he still hadn’t approached me. Before I knew it, I was already standing in front of his door, knocking before I could change my mind. I needed my phone back. All my contacts were saved there. I barely managed two knocks when the door opened. He stood there, looking just as composed as ever. Without a word, I raised my palm in front of him. He looked at it, then lifted his gaze to my face, his expression unreadable. “My phone,” I said coolly. He blinked
My gaze went past him. Xerces was standing there, his hands in his pockets, and his eyes were cold as he stared at us. Gavin tilted his head toward Xerces’ direction. One side of his lip lifted, as if he were not pleased. He let out a low, mocking laugh. “So here comes my fucking scheming brother.
He shot me a cold look as I approached him. “What are you doing here?” I asked. He handed me my bag. “You left this in my car yesterday.” I took it from his hand. “Thanks, but you didn’t have to wait for me. I’ll come to your place for breakfast tomorrow anyway,” I said, grinning as I walked towa
“Hey! Open the damn door. I have good news!” I shouted, pounding insistently against Xerces’s front door. He swung it open, irritation written all over his face. “What?” “I have good news,” I repeated, brushing past him without waiting for an invitation and stepping inside. He closed the door beh
I stopped by a café to grab coffee before heading to work when I suddenly bumped into someone. The cup tilted in my hand, but thankfully, the coffee didn’t spill on his clothes. When I looked up, I was met with a familiar face. “Altagracia?” His face lit up. “It’s nice to see you again.” My brows
