Chapter 1

Author: Queen Candy
Amid the laughter of the banquet attendees, someone shouted loudly, "How about we take bets on how long it'll take for Yuna to admit defeat, Mr. Ford? I bet she'll cave by tonight!

"Without the Ford family's financial support, she won't even be able to afford three days' worth of her sister's medicines!"

The female university student deliberately waved her hand, showing off the wedding ring on it. She said in a soft, sugary voice, "I don't have any money, but I bet 50,000 dollars that Ms. Sutherland can't bear to break up with Mr. Ford."

I stared at the diamond ring that was supposed to belong to me before suddenly laughing out loud.

How ridiculous.

During our wedding 10 years ago, Chester kissed the back of my hand and declared that he would protect me for life.

Yet, he was now threatening me with Luna's life and had put the wedding ring on someone else's finger.

I chuckled and shook my head. "I've already signed the divorce agreement, Chester. All you have to do is sign it too."

Over the years, I'd lost count of the number of times I'd brought up divorce.

However, this was the first time I'd actually brought a divorce agreement to the table.

I slipped my wedding ring off my finger—the exact same design as the female university student's—and set it down forcefully atop the agreement. I then slid the agreement across the table toward Chester.

Chester's pupils dilated in shock, and he stared at me for a good 10 seconds.

Perhaps he found my actions rather hard to believe.

After all, a woman who had always been silently putting up with him, someone who was little more than a bootlicker, was now suddenly leaving him of her own accord.

He sneered, snatched up the agreement, and tore it to pieces amid the shocked exclamations of the crowd. "Have you become addicted to playing the victim? Do you think you'll have my heart if you do this?

"You don't have to threaten me with divorce. I've long grown tired of our marriage, after all."

I lowered my gaze in silence and took an identical divorce agreement out of my bag. "Since you've long grown tired of our relationship, how about you sign the agreement?"

He suddenly flew into a rage and forcefully pushed aside the female university student in his arms. The movement caused his tie to be tugged askew.

"You practically have my name plastered all over you, Yuna Sutherland! Even if you divorce me, who would dare want a woman like you? If you leave the Ford family, your entire family will have to beg on the streets to cover your sister's medical fees and your father's gambling debts!"

I turned away, intending to leave, but Chester slammed me against the floor-to-ceiling window. I screamed in pain.

A second later, he roughly grabbed hold of my waist in front of all the guests.

I struggled fiercely and viciously bit his arm.

He tilted his head and looked at me. "Are you a mad dog?"

I stared directly at him. "Don't touch me. I despise your filthy hands."

He smiled coldly. "Filthy, you say?"

Chester took the divorce agreement from me. He smoothly signed his name, then gave his assistant—Eustace Bookman—some orders.

"From today onward, the Sutherland family can forget about getting a single penny from me," he told me. "Your sister still has enough medicine to last a week. If you want to save her life, get on your knees and beg me."

He was smiling smugly, as if he were absolutely certain I wouldn't endanger Luna's life over this farce.

Chester collapsed to the floor, looking absolutely miserable.Vivi glared at him. Her eyes were wide and angry. "Yuna broke up with you back then, not just because her father threatened Luna's safety, but also because she didn't want to become a burden to you…"Did you know that when you sped with her in your car, she was no less injured than you? Still, she carried you on her back with her thin and weak body. She carried you along a mountainous road for over 10 miles before finally fainting from exhaustion in front of the hospital."I could overlook you not showing her any gratitude, but you even made her suffer every day! On the day Luna passed away, she called you with a heart full of grief. She hoped that you, her husband in name, could see Luna off with her."And yet, which woman were you fooling around with that day? Yuna was smarter and more outstanding than you back in college, Chester Ford. It's because she married you that she gradually lost her former radiance!"She's b

Chester stood up abruptly and frantically dialed my number, but he was always sent to voicemail. His uneasiness continued to grow, and he fell into complete panic right then and there. The moment my plane landed in the state of Nyark, I immediately contacted a friend who lived in the area and asked them to help me apply for a new SIM card.I wanted to completely sever ties with my past from that moment onward. I would let go of my past familial and romantic relationships, start anew, and become a new me.Chester didn't stay in the Ford residence for long. He grabbed his coat and drove straight to Jeldon Hospital. When he arrived at Ward 102, he saw that there was nobody inside. He frantically questioned the doctor on duty, whose reply realized his worst fears."The patient in this ward? She passed away several months ago…"He suddenly felt a surge of fear, realizing that he no longer had any excuse to keep me by his side.He collapsed to the floor in disbelief. Although he wan

Chester suddenly stiffened. His expression instantly became terrifyingly dark.Courtney's lips twitched with amusement, and she sneered. "You're not actually an acquaintance of Yuna's who deliberately made up all this to anger Ches, are you, Ms. Reece? If Ms. Yuna's sister really has passed away, how come she didn't ask Ches for a large sum to pay for the funeral?"For your information, the money set aside for Ms. Luna's medical expenses has still been withdrawn as usual over the past few months…"Chester nodded slightly, the movement so subtle that it was almost imperceptible. However, when he looked back down at the glaring red exclamation mark in the WhatsApp chatroom, he instantly felt an ominous feeling come over him.He dialed my number with hesitation and started questioning me off the bat. "You've exceeded the time limit. Is this how you intend to apologize? Aren't you afraid that I'll really divorce you?"I smiled sardonically.Do you still not get it, Chester Ford?I'

Courtney pursed her lips in displeasure. She rolled her eyes at me before walking directly toward me."My name is Courtney Zeller. You're Ms. Sutherland, right?"She smiled sweetly at me, but her smile didn't reach her eyes. "How strange. Why would Ches be with an old hag like you? They all say that I look like you, but I don't think so. There's no way I'm as old and ugly as you. You should wise up and divorce Ches as soon as possible."I nodded. "Then you should persuade him to divorce me as soon as possible and marry you instead."My words seemed to set her off, as her expression suddenly twisted. "The one who isn't loved is the mistress! So what if you're hogging the identity of Mrs. Ford? You're actually the other woman here!"I was about to say something else when Courtney looked behind me.She suddenly grabbed my arm, smashing a wine glass as she did so. Her palm was instantly covered in blood.Chester rushed over at the sound of breaking glass and held her protectively in

Chester's indifferent voice rang out from the receiver. "What does she have to do with me getting into a traffic accident? Did she contribute to it?"Carl paused for a moment before continuing hurriedly, "Yes, that's right! You were blessed with luck, Mr. Ford, but Yuna certainly also—"Chester asked with extreme impatience, "So, you want money?"Carl's eyes lit up. "Yes, that's right! We can't have the funding for Luna's medical expenses cut off, after all."Before he'd finished speaking, a gentle female voice could be heard from the other end. "It's Ms. Sutherland who behaved insensibly, Chester. There's no need to implicate her family members, is there?""Between the two of us, you're the kinder one," Chester said to her.He then sneered and said to Carl, "If you want me to continue forking out money, then tell Yuna to crawl back to me and beg for my forgiveness."Carl hung up and said furiously, "I've beaten you up this badly, yet he doesn't even care! You really saved him f
