“You… you knotted inside of me…” she said as soon as he was done—though still inside of her.

“Don’t move, else it would hurt in your stomach,” he replied, while her body raged with anger.

This is why she doesn’t like these alphas. They always acted like they owned the whole world.

“How dare you knot inside me without my permission when it’s my body—”

“Stop talking,” he interrupted. “They don’t speak to me like that.”

She didn’t move for another ten minutes as he held her close until he was done knotting. When he pulled away from her and pushed her, she fell to the bed. His rut worn off, a stern look on his face as he glared at her.

She glared back—with so much intensity, so much anger, it felt like it could burn the whole room down.

“If you’re concerned because you’d get pregnant with my child, don’t worry. Take this…” he said, tossing a packet of something packaged. “It will prevent you from that. I don’t want a loose omega like you carrying my child anyway.”

She looked at the package, then at him, disdain twisting her expression.

“Up until… I satiated your appetite…”

Wads of dollars fell from his hands to her.

“That will do. Get out.”

Like poison. Like she was an object.

How dare she say this Alpha was the best? He’s the worst. All the other alphas—at least—they cuddled next to her, treating her like a priceless object till the next day. This one? He had already crossed the room, sitting by the window, smoking, with only his underpants on. No cuddles. No affection. But he fucked her like there was something between them.

She gathered the wad of notes and then her clothes from the floor.

Being a prostitute for alphas for more than five years, she had never been disgusted with herself—not once—until now.

She began to dress.

“My driver will drop you off,” he said without even looking at her.

The words—or just his entire being? She wasn’t sure what she hated more.

“I’m fine. I can go home by myself.”

“My driver will drop you off. I’m not offering.”

“And I’m not accepting,” she snapped back.

He turned to look at her, disgust heavy in his eyes.

“You don’t have an opinion in this.”

Her hands fell to her side.

“What? I don’t have an opinion in this?” She churned the words between her tongue, still staring at him with hate. So much hate—for his entire beautiful self, his entire large self… except for his dick. That’s the only obedient part of his body. The one that wasn’t rude or ill-mannered.

“My driver will be here in five.”

“I don’t want to go with your driver,” she gritted angrily and reached into her bag. She pulled out the notes she had already stuffed inside and threw them at him. They scattered in the air before reaching him.

He rose from the seat in anger, crossing the room to reach her.

“How dare you!”

“How dare me?” She hated the tone. She hated the way he spoke to her. “I’m done. Take your money and your stupid self—”

He grabbed her jaw and squeezed tight—angry, feral—pushing her backward while she squirmed in pain. But she didn’t back down.

“You must’ve swallowed so much cum to make you this audacious,” he said, glaring.

“What? I should take my money?” He slapped her pussy aggressively, making her squirm. “Look at you—getting turned on again like the bitch you are, and you talk to me like that?”

Was she to hate herself for getting riled up because of him—or hate the human being he is? She couldn’t even push him away or stop the pain around her jaw. He was too strong.

Like a rock.

Unmovable.

“You don’t question my orders,” he said as he let go, and she nearly fell to the floor. “And—” he tossed his card to the floor. “Be there tomorrow.”

Her eyes flickered toward the card, anger heavier now than before. She read the letters.

ALPHA PENKING ORGANISATION

Penking?

He’s the famous Penking. The one who made all of New York drop to its feet. The one everyone bowed to. The one who didn’t have human feelings.

He’s that Penking?

“You didn’t even know my name and called me Devon,” he spat as she still sat crushed on the floor, her eyes flickering over the card again and again.

The Penking who made her father go bankrupt.

The one who ended her father’s life right before her eyes ten years ago.

The reason she had to become this—to raise her little brother.

He stooped to her level.

“And you dared call me Devon.”

He touched her face again, and this time she flinched away. Tears brimmed at the corners of her eyes, and she clenched the pain away with her fists.

“Just how many wolves—how many—have you opened your legs for?” he said, trailing a finger over her semi-covered body. “Devon,” he repeated before scoffing, standing, and turning his back on her again.

“And?” she found herself saying. “That’s my job. How’s that any of your business?”

She stood.

“I will leave.”

She dressed hurriedly, the silence thick, widening the lump in her chest.

“You don’t leave until you pick up those dollars you scattered—while crawling on your feet,” he commanded as she reached for the doorknob.

She twisted it anyway.

“You won’t want to see how I am when I get angry,” he said calmly. “I don’t shift—but I will devour you whole in this room, and no one would know.”

She took in a deep breath.

“Even your brother… he won’t know where you went.”

She froze.

How did he know her brother?

Three days later, everything changed again. It started with a phone call. Penking answered it at breakfast. His expression darkened immediately. “When?” A pause. “I’ll be there in ten minutes.” He hung up. Looked at her. “I have to go. Emergency.” “What kind?” “The kind that might get people killed.” He grabbed his jacket. “Stay here. Don’t leave. Don’t answer the door.” “Kael” “I’m serious, Amelia. Something’s happening. And until I know what, you’re safer here.” He left. She sat at the table. Alone. The apartment was too quiet. She tried calling Dan. No answer. Tried again. Straight to voicemail. Her stomach knotted. She called Penking. It rang once then cut off. Something was wrong. She went to the window. Stared down at the street. Nothing looked different. Cars. People. Normal morning traffic. But it didn’t feel normal. Her phone buzzed. A text from an unknown number. Dan’s been taken. If you want him alive, come alone. Address below. One hour. Her blood w

He took her to Brooklyn. Not the Brooklyn of expensive brownstones and artisan coffee shops. The other Brooklyn. The one tourists didn’t see. Crumbling buildings. Graffiti. Broken sidewalks. The car stopped in front of a condemned apartment building. “This is where you grew up?” she asked. “For the first twelve years.” He got out. “Come on.” She followed him inside. The building smelled like rot and mold. Stairs creaked under their weight. Third floor. He stopped at a door. No lock. Just hanging open. Inside, the apartment was gutted. Empty except for debris and graffiti. “My mother worked three jobs,” he said. Standing in what used to be the living room. “My father drank through whatever money she brought home. I learned early that survival meant being smarter and meaner than everyone around you.” Amelia said nothing. Just listened. “When I was twelve, my father got into debt with the wrong people. Gambling. They came to collect. And when he couldn’t pay, they killed him.

He didn’t come to bed that night. She lay awake listening for footsteps that never came. Morning arrived grey and cold. She found him asleep on the couch. Still in yesterday’s clothes. An empty glass on the table beside him. She made coffee. Set a cup on the table near his hand. Went back to the kitchen. He woke up twenty minutes later. Came and leaned against the counter. “About last night,” he said. “Don’t.” “We need to talk about it.” “No we don’t.” She kept her eyes on her coffee. “It was a mistake. It doesn’t happen again.” “Amelia—” “I mean it.” She looked at him. “Whatever you think that kiss meant, you’re wrong.” “Then what did it mean?” “Nothing. It meant nothing.” He studied her face. “You’re a terrible liar.” “And you’re delusional if you think one kiss changes anything between us.” “It changes everything.” “No.” She set down her cup. “It changes nothing. You still own me. I still want to leave. That’s the only truth that matters.” He w

She went to meet Olivia. The decision made itself somewhere between morning coffee and noon. She couldn’t stay trapped in the penthouse counting failed strategies while Devon rotted somewhere and Penking tightened his grip day by day.She needed options. Information. Anything. At 2:45 PM, she told the guard she was going for a walk.He checked his watch. “Be back by four.”She nodded and left. The coffee shop was the same. Small. Tucked away. Empty except for Olivia sitting by the window.Amelia slid into the seat across from her.“You came,” Olivia said.“You said it was about Devon.”“It is.” Olivia pushed a folder across the table. “He’s alive. Barely. Penking has him in a warehouse in Red Hook. Third building from the pier.”Amelia opened the folder. Photos. Grainy. Dark. But clear enough.Devon. Bruised. Bloodied. Chained to a wall. Her stomach turned.“When were these taken?” she asked.“Yesterday.”“He looks—”“Half dead. I know.” Olivia’s voice was flat. “Penking visits him tw

She didn’t come out of the bathroom. Not for an hour. Not for two.Penking knocked once. “Amelia.”“Go away.”“Open the door.”“No.”Silence. Then his footsteps retreating. She sat on the cold tile floor and stared at nothing. The anger had burned out. Left behind something hollow. She’d played way three perfectly. Built trust. Created intimacy.
