Chapter 2

Author: Hammer Titan
Sabrina had never thought that I would've already packed up my suitcase to leave. She rushed over to me to try and stop me from leaving.

Just then, there was the sound of the thumbprint-activated smart lock being unlocked from the outside. Moments later, Joshua entered the house with his son, Andy Sears, in tow.

Who would've thought that he would actually have his fingerprint registered at my own house?

I'd told Sabrina before that I never wanted to see Joshua in my house. He'd framed me and taken away everything that was mine. He'd also turned me into the laughingstock of the neighborhood and made people hate me to the point that I hadn't dared to leave the house.

He'd completely destroyed me.

And I hated him.

But, obviously, Sabrina didn't care about a single word I said.

When Joshua caught sight of me, his face paled slightly. He then put on a pitiful look and said, "Ash…"

Andy immediately hid behind him and yelled at me like I was some sort of monster. "No, Ashton, please don't hit my daddy!"

I looked at Andy, who was perhaps ten years old, tops. He looked very naive and innocent. However, he was also the one who'd framed me for hitting Joshua at my parents' house when I went back there for Thanksgiving.

I'd been looking forward to that particular Thanksgiving for years. It was the first time my parents had ever agreed to let me come home for the occasion after that incident happened.

That day, I'd tried very hard to mend my relationship with my parents. Yet, Joshua had then grabbed me at the top of the stairs before rolling all the way down with me.

I'd broken a leg during the fall, but nobody had even spared a look at me.

Instead, they'd all rushed toward Joshua, who'd landed on the other side of the staircase landing.

Crouching around him, they'd asked him if he was alright. I'd felt my heart sink, but I'd still harbored some hope as I said, "He was the one who pushed me."

Joshua hadn't defended himself. He'd just nodded submissively and said, "Whatever Ash says."

Then, Andy had suddenly burst into tears as he came down the stairs, yelling, "Ashton! Why did you push my daddy down the stairs?

"Daddy didn't want to disturb you and your family for Thanksgiving—it was Grandma and Grandpa who insisted that we come! But if you didn't want to see us here, then we could just leave! Why did you have to push Daddy down?"

Just as he'd finished speaking, my mom, Betty Pearson, had rushed up to me and given me a huge slap across the face.

She'd yelled at me in disgust, "I thought that you really repented all these years. I didn't think that you'd turn out even more evil and ungrateful than before!"

At that moment, I'd felt so wronged that my eyes had instantly filled with tears.

Whoever said that men didn't cry was wrong. They just hadn't had their hearts completely broken before.

I'd insisted that I'd never pushed Joshua, but nobody had believed me.

My dad, Larry Jenkins, had just glared coldly at me, looking utterly disappointed. "Are you telling me that a young child like Andy would lie about this?"

Sabrina had clenched her fists and said in an equally cold voice, "You're hopeless, Ashton Jenkins."

Tiana had then stormed over and angrily kicked my broken leg. I'd been in so much pain that I'd cried out in agony.

Even then, nobody had cared about me. They'd just watched me suffer, feeling a little lighter as they took it out on me.

Nobody had said anything, but I'd been able to tell from their faces that they thought I deserved to suffer.

Tiana had even said, "You're a terrible daddy. I hate you so much!"

That day, I'd left the house while limping in pain. I could still remember the excruciating pain from back then.

I'd planned to divorce Sabrina that very night, but she'd torn the divorce agreement in half, seeming as calm as ever, and said, "Don't you get it, Ash? Nobody loves you anymore except me."

I'd said nothing, feeling dazed and confused. The only question that had kept running through my head was whether she really loved me.

Sabrina had been able to tell what was on my mind. She'd laughed mockingly and said, "If I didn't love you, do you really think I'd still put up with you when you're such an evil person?

"Mom and Dad don't want you anymore. They've already decided to take Joshua in as their foster son. So, you should just stay by my side and continue repaying your sins to him. Understood?"

I'd grown up in a loveless family, so I was eventually persuaded by Sabrina to stay.

I'd been too afraid that nobody else in the world would love me anymore. I'd been worried that I would find myself on the streets with nowhere to go if I lost my current family. If that happened, I would be just like a kite with a broken string.

And I hadn't wanted to end up abandoned and disliked by others.

So, I'd learned to compromise and be patient.

I'd stopped defending myself and allowed Sabrina and Tiana to openly disregard me while they showered Joshua and Andy with all of their love and care instead.

Yet, my years of compromise had never amounted to anything good for me. My life had been horrible.

I was suddenly snapped out of my thoughts and brought back to the present when Tiana rushed up to me and shoved me aside. She then grabbed Andy's hand and comforted him.

"Don't worry, Andy. Mom and I are here, and we won't let anyone beat you or Joshua up."

Then, turning to me, she warned me, "If you dare to hurt them, I'll never acknowledge you as my daddy again!"

Andy pretended to look gentle and understanding as he said, "But Tiana, you shouldn't be so fierce with Ashton…"

Then, he looked at me and gave me a meek smile, trying to please me. "Ashton, I know that you don't like me or my daddy. But my daddy isn't like you. We don't have anything anymore. Can you please not chase us away?"

I should've known that a bastard could only ever raise another bastard. Like father, like son, after all—and Andy was exactly like his dad.

I smiled at him and said, "What do you mean, you don't have anything anymore? This house belongs to you now."

Although the post never explicitly mentioned names, surprisingly, plenty of my ex-schoolmates left tons of comments under it.It was just a matter of time before Joshua's misdeeds were exposed in the open for all to see and judge. That wasn't all. Sabrina, Mom, and Dad were all dragged into the mud along with him. Over the next few days, my phone seemed like it would explode from the sheer number of calls I received on a daily basis.I stared at the culprit, who was now standing before me. I said helplessly, "You little minx, who told you to poke your nose into this?"Bianca just grinned happily as she served me a perfect cut of steak. "Don't get mad, mister. I know you're not the kind of person who shows his scars just to make others feel guilty, but why should you stay silent when you're the victim? "If they don't even know the extent of hurt they've caused you, they would probably just think of it as a tiny inconvenience. "That's nowhere near enough to make up for all the su

When Joshua heard that I had a gift prepared for him, his eyes grew alert as he became completely on guard.I guess he still had some sort of self-awareness after all. He knew how much I loathed him, so it wouldn't make any sense for me to prepare a gift for him in the first place. But before he could reject me, a young lady in a short pixie cut walked out among the crowd of onlookers who'd stopped to watch us.Joshua's face went pale as soon as he caught sight of the woman. He blurted, "Dolly Brown!"Dolly puffed out some cigarette smoke, giving Joshua the once-over a few times."It's been a long while, ex-boyfriend. It seems like you've been living quite the life. By the way, you told me that you'd marry me as soon as you'd gotten your hands on the Jenkins family's fortune. Does that promise still count?"Dad's eyes widened in shock as he looked at Joshua in disbelief.Joshua hurriedly shook his head. "Mom, Dad, don't listen to her! Have you already forgotten? It was her! She'

Three months ago, one of the thugs involved in beating Joshua up had just been released from prison.I'd met up with him on the very day he'd gotten out.I recalled Joshua had told me back then that he'd had a friend waiting for him at the shortcut. I guessed that if that "friend" really existed, then he would be the only person in the world who could prove my innocence.I'd gone through all of the people in Joshua's circle of friends, but I'd found nothing. That was how I'd come to the conclusion that the "friend" he'd mentioned might've been one of the thugs involved. As it turned out, I didn't end up just learning about the so-called friend's name—I even learned the entire story behind the deliberate cover-up.I was going to reveal the truth the next day and destroy Joshua with one lethal blow.In a way, I would also be giving Sabrina a very memorable divorce. After making all the necessary arrangements, I drowsily went back to sleep. In my dreams, I felt as though someone k

I had to admit that Bianca was way better than Sabrina at seeing through liars from the start.I took the second apple she peeled for me and chuckled mockingly. "Oh, maybe his depression got triggered or something."I paused for a bit and made sure to emphasize the next few words. "Severe depression, I believe."Bianca giggled. "That's not severe depression. That's schizophrenia. I strongly suggest that he be taken to the psychiatric ward so he'll recover faster."I burst out laughing at that. Meanwhile, Sabrina just stared at me in disbelief. She'd never thought that I would be as cold-hearted as this and make fun of Joshua, who was ill, along with another stranger. However, what shook her the most was that while I behaved like an emotionless robot when with her, I could be so expressive and laugh along with another woman.A spark of jealousy rose in her chest. She yelled, "That's enough, Ashton Jenkins! How did you change into someone like this? No wonder your parents are dis

Sabrina frowned when she heard me referring to her as my ex-wife.I thought that she would yell at me and accuse me of losing my temper and playing hard-to-get again, like she did in the past. But to my surprise, she just sighed and held my hand as she said, "Are you still mad at me? Honey, I admit that I ignored you in the past, but I'll pay more attention to you now, alright? Can you stop being angry at me? Where do you think you can go after separating from me?"I had no idea why Sabrina was suddenly acting like a whole different person, but when she said the last sentence, I immediately felt indignant."The world is wide and vast. Why would you think that I have no place to go?"Sabrina replied, "You know that's not what I meant."I was so frustrated that I didn't even want to talk anymore.I'd bet Sabrina just didn't want to give me half of her assets. Otherwise, I simply couldn't think of any reason why she wouldn't want to divorce me.I caught sight of Joshua still linge

Bianca's words were so shocking that I nearly jumped up from the bed.Meanwhile, Sabrina's voice turned shrill on the other end of the line. "What did you say? Who are you?"However, Bianca had already hung up on her. She even turned the phone off afterward. When she saw me glaring at her, she grinned meekly and said, "I didn't mean to say that you were dead. I just thought that your wife was being ridiculous."Her own husband is lying in the hospital, and yet, she didn't even ask about you or how you're doing. Honestly speaking… you've got quite terrible taste in women."I just smiled a little helplessly and bitterly, mumbling, "Not just my wife. I'm terrible at picking my parents and my close buddies too."Even the daughter I had turned out to be the wrong choice. My stomach suddenly growled loudly. Looking sheepish, I asked, "Sorry, but could you get me something to eat?"I hadn't eaten anything since that night, and I was feeling ravenous.Bianca immediately took out her p
