Chapter 1

"Hubby, kiss me. I miss you so much. When are you coming home?"

Out of nowhere, I received a text. The sender was none other than Veronica Starling, our cold, untouchable CEO, the same woman who was currently berating us in a meeting.

What stunned me even more was the time stamp on the message.

It was sent five years in the future.

In the company conference room, Veronica stood at the front in a tailored business suit, her hair pulled into a high ponytail. She looked aloof and restrained as she spoke, using the meeting to "educate" us.

Her ruthlessness was legendary within the company. Anyone who dared disobey her orders usually had only one outcome: pack up and leave immediately.

The conference room was dead silent.

Right in the middle of that silence, my phone chimed.

"Hubby, kiss me. I miss you so much. When are you coming home?"

The instant I saw the message, my mind went completely blank. That was because the contact name on my phone for the CEO, Veronica Starling, was saved as "Evil CEO".

In my day-to-day work, she targeted me more than enough. She constantly assigned me the toughest, most thankless tasks. If I failed to do them well, what followed was a merciless round of criticism.

I immediately raised a hand and rubbed my eyes. My head felt as if it had been hollowed out in an instant.

Something was wrong. Very wrong.

I had to be seeing things.

At that very moment, Veronica was assigning this year's targets and distributing KPIs to each department. She looked every bit like someone standing high above everyone else, commanding the room and pointing out the direction of the battlefield.

There was no way she would send me a message like that.

Being criticized by Veronica already had me in a foul mood. This had to be some kind of prank.

Then another message came in.

"Both the baby and I miss you. Can you come home early tonight to keep us company? I made roast chicken for you."

That message instantly ignited my anger.

Sitting through this kind of meeting was irritating enough. Now someone was deliberately messing with me on top of that.

I could not swallow this at all. I was just about to fire back a reply and curse at whoever this was when I suddenly noticed something off.

The timestamp on the messages looked wrong.

The time displayed was "March 3, 2030."

I quickly switched back to my home screen and opened the calendar. The date clearly showed March 3, 2025.

This message was sent from 2030? That meant it came from five years in the future.

No. Something was not right. This had to be a hallucination caused by too much work stress lately.

I took a deep breath and opened the message thread again.

The timestamp still read March 3, 2030.

Five years.

Was this really a message sent from five years later? And the sender was still our company's cold, untouchable CEO, Veronica Starling? Could my phone be broken?

I immediately restarted it. After it powered back on, another message came through from her.

"Dear hubby, why are you not replying to me…"

I looked at the message. Then I looked at the time again. It still showed March 3, 2030.

My heart started racing uncontrollably. I quickly replied, "You… who are you?"

Even though the contact name clearly said Evil CEO, I could not stop myself from asking.

"Hubby, you finally replied. Are you playing some kind of game with me, asking that?

"Dear Andy, I am your wife, Veronica Starling. You always call me your dear Ronnie…"

When I saw that, my entire worldview collapsed.

Five years from now, I had married the evil CEO, Veronica Starling? We even had a child?

This was way too unbelievable.

I thanked the security guard and quickly headed toward the city center.Along the way, I called Veronica several more times, but no one answered.Night had already fallen. Neon lights lit up the entire city.Standing in the city center with no way to reach her, my anxiety spiked. There was a saying: when you care too much, you lose your composure.I knew I was panicking, and that was not helping. I started reminding myself internally, taking deep breaths again and again, forcing myself to calm down. Then a cold gust of wind blew past, snapping me awake.Right. Whatever had happened, future Veronica already knew about it. After all, she was the one who told me to come.I immediately pulled out my phone and messaged her."I can't reach her. I am already in Ridgeview. Is there any way to know where she is right now?"Please reply when you see this."I sent several messages in a row.Future Veronica replied almost immediately. "Look at how anxious you are. Does this mean you alr

After hearing that, my colleague finally relaxed. "Don't worry, boss. Leave things here to us.""If anything comes up, contact me right away."After saying that, I immediately left the team-building venue. Since I had not driven there, I had no choice but to hail a car and head for the high-speed rail station.Driving to Ridgeview would have taken two or three hours. By high-speed rail, it was less than an hour.Based on the timing, Veronica should already be close to arriving in Ridgeview. By the time I got there, she would probably already be in the middle of her research work. While I was in the car, Veronica sent me a location. It was the hotel she was staying at. She messaged me, "It might get pretty late tonight. I may just stay here for the night."Seeing the location she sent, I felt a bit more at ease.Future Veronica also messaged me, asking if I had set off yet.I told her, "Don't worry. I am already on my way."Only then did she relax. "After you come back this tim

After we arrived, everyone had a great time."Present-day hubby went back to work again. I'm home with Iris, and I'm so bored," future Veronica quickly messaged me."Iris and I cannot be apart from you for even a second."2025 hubby, what are you doing right now? Hurry up and reply to me. Chat with me."Seeing her messages, I did not delay. I quickly took a few photos and sent them over, then told her, "We are out on a team-building trip today.""Team-building?""Basically, we came out to have some fun." Future Veronica did not reply right away. After a moment, she asked, "Is it March 20, 2025, on your side right now?"When I saw her message, I immediately switched screens and checked the date on my phone. It was indeed March 20, 2025."Yes, that is the date," I replied.Right after I sent that, future Veronica continued, "Is the weather good today?""Yes. Why? Is something wrong?"The moment she started asking these details, I sensed something was off. It felt like someth

"Don't worry. I'm fine," I said casually."That's good. Get some rest early," Veronica’s voice came through."Okay. You should rest early, too, Ms. Starling."The call ended.I lay on the bed without touching my phone, while staring at the ceiling. After thinking about everything for a while, I raised my hand and pinched myself. Something about everything happening lately felt unreal.I pinched myself again. The pain was very real. That confirmed it. Everything that had happened was real. The next morning, I received a notice from the office. We were not working today. Instead, there would be team bonding. Our company was fairly large. Usually, we did not carry out company-wide team building activities. Each department went on its own.As the company’s CEO, Veronica would sometimes join these outings as well.So I quickly asked HR, "Will Ms. Starling be going this time?"To be honest, most people did not like it when she came along because she was really not easy to get alo

I anxiously messaged the future Veronica, but after sending it, the message vanished into silence. There was no reply at all.The longer I stared at the screen, the more uneasy I became. A bad feeling crept up in my chest. Was I really about to die? Had I failed to make it to 2030?I would only be in my early thirties then. Were my prime years gone just like that?Thinking about it, I could not sit still in the car.Beside me, Veronica kept glancing my way. She must have noticed something was off. "Are you okay, Andrew?""I am. I'm fine."First, the driver dropped Veronica off at her place. Then it was my turn. Before we parted, she still seemed worried. "Are you sure you are really okay?""Don't worry. I am really fine."I forced myself to act calm, finally easing her doubts. When I got home, there was still no message. Finally, at nine in the evening, future Veronica replied."Don't worry, hubby. It's nothing serious. You just had a sudden kidney stone attack. After the

I put my phone away and returned home in a complete daze. After taking a hot shower, my head finally cleared up a little. Even though I was still shaken by everything that had happened today, reality was reality. I still had to get next quarter’s work done properly.I opened the file Veronica had given me. It was a market research report that contained extremely thorough data. The presentation was also very polished.I read through it several times, then stayed up late refining my own plan. The next morning, I woke up, yawned, and quickly headed to the office. This period marked the beginning of a new quarter, and I was also leading a small team. Overall, things were pretty busy.During this time, Veronica kept finding me to assign new tasks. My workload pressure kept increasing. My head was buzzing. Was this what it looked like when she supposedly liked me?"Andrew, there's a meeting this morning.""Andrew, a client is coming in from out of town this afternoon. Go pick them u
