LOGINAs soon as Kiel reached his own apartment, he removed his shoes and took off his black coat, putting it on the sofa. He sighed and lay down for a while, enjoying the white ceiling that was also staring at him.
It’s 9pm, and he just got off work after driving Devyn home. He was so tired that he forgot to buy food for dinner. Kiel sighed and sat up. He brushed his hair up.
After minutes of settling himself, he stood up and headed to the kitchen. The man opened the fridge and looked for something he could cook just to ease his hunger. He hasn't eaten well this week because he was taking his rut medicine.
Luckily, he got a lettuce and a few more ingredients in making a salad. It’s been years since the werewolves finally adapted to the modern world. They also found a way to be in their human form for so long and eating something like this wasn’t new to them, too.
Those who were dominant omegas and alphas needed each other to gather essence why being recessive wasn't that a big deal. He can survive his rut by taking these modern invented medicines, too. At least, he was thankful for this.
Suddenly, his phone rang on the countertop. A call from his younger sister.
“H-Hello, brother? Are you off from work now?” Ellie, his younger sister, asked.
Kiel nodded. “Yes, did you call me? I didn’t notice. I’m busy driving my boss earlier.” he pressed the phone to his left ear and continued slicing the tomato.
From the background, he heard his father cursing with the loud television. Kiel frowned. “Is father drunk again?”
By this, Ellie stepped away from his father. “Yeah, I told him to stop drinking, but he’s so stubborn. He kept on calling your name and saying it’s your fault that he became like this.” She headed upstairs and closed her bedroom door.
“I’m sorry to bother you, but I have exams next week and I need money.” Ellie leaned on the door with a worried expression. “My professors were already bothering me to pay.”
Kiel understood it. His younger sister was a graduating highschool student, and it was his responsibility to support them. His father was right. If it’s not for him, their life wouldn’t be like this.
“I will send the money tomorrow morning. I will call you before, so don’t worry.” He turned around and took a plate from the cabinet, putting the phone down on the loudspeaker.
Ellie thanked her brother a lot and then ended the call saying that she still needed to study hard, so that he can help him someday.
While Kiel ate his dinner and took a quick shower before heading to bed.
The next morning, he fetched Devyn early as usual. He parked the car outside and the first person he saw was Madame Evelyn. She was busy sprinkling the small plants in the living room.
“Good morning, Madame.” Kiel bowed and greeted.
The woman in her 40s, who has little gray hair, stopped and smiled at the man. “Kiel, my dear. You’re early today.” She put down the small sprinkler on the side table and approached the man.
“I baked cookies earlier for breakfast? Do you want to have some?”
Kiel felt the woman’s caress on his cheeks. “No need, Madame. I came here to fetch Dev–the president,” he paused when he realized that he was about to call the Miss by her name.
A light chuckle escaped Evelyn’s lips. “Oh my, why so formal? You two grew up together, yes?” she patted the guy’s shoulders. “She’s in the backyard patio.” She gave a thick coat to the guy and asked him to give it to her daughter.
Kiel nodded and headed to the back area of the house. He then thought to himself what he just blurted out earlier. Even though he used to call Devyn by the name, it’s all in the past now. Today, the present life he was facing is now different.
As he pushed through the door and stepped outside, the first thing he heard was the shattering sound of something fragile, followed by Devyn’s voice.
“How many times do I have to tell you that I want sugar in my tea?!” she exclaimed, scolding the maid, who was now cowering in fear and apologizing.
“I want another one right now! Do your job properly!”
The maid immediately dashed to the door and happened to see the man standing. “Good morning, Sir Kiel.” Then she immediately vanished from the scene.
Kiel sighed and saw the shattered teacup on the patio floor. Devyn was sitting on the chair in front of the table. Wearing a red silk sleeveless dress, exposing her smooth pale skin.
He wrapped the coat around her shoulders, “The weather was cold today. You shouldn't wear something like that outside, president.” He said, stepping back.
Devyn crossed her legs and continued scrolling through her phone. “Aren’t you early today?” She checked the time on the side of the screen. “We still have 2 hours before going to the company.”
“I headed out early because I sent Ellie’s allowance today.” He answered, looking at the view of the flower plants not far away from them.
Being alone like this with Devyn isn’t new to him. However, sometimes, there’s this unexplainable feeling that’s tickling him so suddenly.
Devyn loosened her grip on her phone and looked up, pulling the guy’s necktie closer to her face. “Kiel, if you need more money, you should ask me.” she smirked and let her breath tickle the man’s neck.
The man averted his eyes. “I am already satisfied with my salary right now. No need to bother the president.” He answered.
Devyn frowned and pushed him. “Such a jerk,” she snorted. “What’s my schedule today?”
Kiel cleared his throat and took out his phone. He read the schedule one by one until the last part.
“The second of the Fenrir Clan invited you to a party. He said that he already sent the invitation to the company.”
Devyn paused. “What time is it?” she asked.
“7pm tonight at the V Hotel.” He also used this opportunity to tell Devyn something. “I want to suggest that this may be a great opportunity for you to personally choose a partner for the week.”
A smirk occupied the lady’s cheeks. “That's a good idea. I might as well change my style.” She stood up and pinched the man’s cheeks. “Okay, Mr Kiel, contact my designer as soon as possible, and tell the Fenrir Clan that I will attend the party tonight.”
“Yes, Miss President.” Kiel replied.
Shadow Maulers were known as a ruthless group. It contains clanless people that will do anything for money. Killing someone is not even a problem. This group lives underground and usually works for powerful people in the background. Of course, the world would not be balanced if there were no bad people. Even if Ventus City was ruled by the Lowell Clan, it's still not in their hands to control these mad, selfish people. No matter how high they put the security, these shadows will still lurk in the background. The atmosphere inside the car became more serious. The one that looked so bothered was Devyn. She turned her gaze outside the car, biting her nails unconsciously. She has this habit whenever she feels anxious. From her side, Kiel pulled her hand. “President, stop biting your nails.” he put the lady’s hand down and put his gaze back to the road while waiting for the green light. Devyn clicked her tongue, and the frown on her eyes deepened.“Don’t stress yourself too much. We ar
“Good evening, Mr Kiel. Thank you for working hard today.” Felix happened to bump into the guy in the hallways of the second floor. The company was about to be emptied now since the other employees were already on their way home. The guy nodded back. “Same to you, Mr Remus.” Kiel moved over and gave way to the man. “Take care on your way home.” Felix stopped for a while. “Kiel,” he called out. This time, his voice was sincere. When the other guy looked at him, he smiled. “Thank you for considering my proposal.”Kiel shook his head. “It’s the president’s decision, not me. I will tell her about your gratitude and besides, we are prioritizing what’s good for our employees.” he said. “I see,” the former replied. “I will go home now. Good evening again.”When the man finally disappeared, Kiel took a lift going to the lower ground in the parking lot. He was on his way to the car to get Devyn’s coat because it’s cold outside. He pressed the car key and saw the flickering light from the s
The atmosphere became more gloomy when the silence hit them. Right now, in that long table were the three powerful persons among their clan. Two dominant alphas and one dominant omega.Raye Edon was with his bodyguards as usual. A serious face with a cunning expression behind. He was sitting crossed legs next to his friend, Luca.Luca was with Axel today. Still grumping over that team building his father wanted him to participate.Of course, in front of them was Devyn Lowell, with her assistant Kiel behind her. “Guys, I know all of us are not pleased to see each other again, but we need to cooperate, yes?” Raye leaned his back and glanced at the two alternatively. He knew that if there’s someone who’s not welcome here, it's more likely to be him.“Why are you just looking at me? Am I not very welcome here?” he added before looking to the guy on his right side.Luca grunted at him. “I came here because my father told me to. My assistant forced me to come here.” They both flinched whe
“Okay, everyone make sure to write your name here. I will submit this to the president tomorrow.”Mr Mo cleared everything for them before distributing the pamphlet for the upcoming company team building next week. He posted the announcement on the whiteboard to make sure that everyone will be informed. The L.L Corporation will be having its team building with the F.E company in order to strengthen the partnership and bond between the said companies.“Mr Mo, would you mind helping me clear this datas here?”Anna waved her hands to get the man’s attention. She was already finished but some new emails arrived and she accidentally merged the said profiles. Mr Mo rushed to her for help.“Miss Anna, how many times do I have to tell you that you need to close this one before opening the new ones.” he mumbled while clicking the mouse and eyes on the monitor.“I’m sorry. I accidentally pressed the shift.” Anna replied, observing what she did in her files. “Are you going to participate in the
“Good morning, President.”He greeted her and opened the car door for her. Albert opened the gate for them and guided them outside. Kiel adjusted the rearview mirror and caught Devyn’s expression, frowning. He turned the car around and hit the road.“Did you not sleep well last night, President?” he asked, still eyes on the road and hands on the steering wheel. The lady sitting in the backseat clicked her tongue. She’s still sulking about last night. She admitted that she slept well, but not waking up with Kiel made her mood down. The lady turned her eyes on the road. “I want a coffee.”Kiel checked the time and nodded back, knowing that he had more time to pass by and buy coffee for her. Today, there were lots of meetings and seeing that Devyn’s already frowning, he can guess that the lady was not in the good mood.Kiel parked the car and headed straight in the cafe. He went back inside and gave the coffee to the lady. When they reached the company, she didn’t have time to prepare,
"Kiel? Are you–alright?"Veronica scanned the guy from head to toe. Seeing his state with messy hair and small crumples on clothes. The guy cleared his throat. "Yes, Miss Veronica." He nodded and joined her downstairs. "Miss Lowell asked me for some water."The woman pointed at the way to the kitchen. "Sure, go ahead. I prepare some juice. You guys must be cleaning inside the study room."When they reached the kitchen, she's the one who opened the fridge and took out the pitcher with apple juice. "Make sure to not inhale any dust, okay?"Kiel took it and said thanks. When the guy left, Veronica clicked her tongue in dismay. She put her palm on forehead and mumbled. “These kids should just ask the maids to do that. Isn’t it Saturday today? They are supposed to relax from work.”From the oven, Madam Evelyn peeked. She was about to put the new cookies back after checking. “Let them be. Devyn likes to organize her things on her own.” She comforted the other woman.Veronica didn’t answer
