As soon as Kiel reached his own apartment, he removed his shoes and took off his black coat, putting it on the sofa. He sighed and lay down for a while, enjoying the white ceiling that was also staring at him.
It’s 9pm, and he just got off work after driving Devyn home. He was so tired that he forgot to buy food for dinner. Kiel sighed and sat up. He brushed his hair up.
After minutes of settling himself, he stood up and headed to the kitchen. The man opened the fridge and looked for something he could cook just to ease his hunger. He hasn't eaten well this week because he was taking his rut medicine.
Luckily, he got a lettuce and a few more ingredients in making a salad. It’s been years since the werewolves finally adapted to the modern world. They also found a way to be in their human form for so long and eating something like this wasn’t new to them, too.
Those who were dominant omegas and alphas needed each other to gather essence why being recessive wasn't that a big deal. He can survive his rut by taking these modern invented medicines, too. At least, he was thankful for this.
Suddenly, his phone rang on the countertop. A call from his younger sister.
“H-Hello, brother? Are you off from work now?” Ellie, his younger sister, asked.
Kiel nodded. “Yes, did you call me? I didn’t notice. I’m busy driving my boss earlier.” he pressed the phone to his left ear and continued slicing the tomato.
From the background, he heard his father cursing with the loud television. Kiel frowned. “Is father drunk again?”
By this, Ellie stepped away from his father. “Yeah, I told him to stop drinking, but he’s so stubborn. He kept on calling your name and saying it’s your fault that he became like this.” She headed upstairs and closed her bedroom door.
“I’m sorry to bother you, but I have exams next week and I need money.” Ellie leaned on the door with a worried expression. “My professors were already bothering me to pay.”
Kiel understood it. His younger sister was a graduating highschool student, and it was his responsibility to support them. His father was right. If it’s not for him, their life wouldn’t be like this.
“I will send the money tomorrow morning. I will call you before, so don’t worry.” He turned around and took a plate from the cabinet, putting the phone down on the loudspeaker.
Ellie thanked her brother a lot and then ended the call saying that she still needed to study hard, so that he can help him someday.
While Kiel ate his dinner and took a quick shower before heading to bed.
The next morning, he fetched Devyn early as usual. He parked the car outside and the first person he saw was Madame Evelyn. She was busy sprinkling the small plants in the living room.
“Good morning, Madame.” Kiel bowed and greeted.
The woman in her 40s, who has little gray hair, stopped and smiled at the man. “Kiel, my dear. You’re early today.” She put down the small sprinkler on the side table and approached the man.
“I baked cookies earlier for breakfast? Do you want to have some?”
Kiel felt the woman’s caress on his cheeks. “No need, Madame. I came here to fetch Dev–the president,” he paused when he realized that he was about to call the Miss by her name.
A light chuckle escaped Evelyn’s lips. “Oh my, why so formal? You two grew up together, yes?” she patted the guy’s shoulders. “She’s in the backyard patio.” She gave a thick coat to the guy and asked him to give it to her daughter.
Kiel nodded and headed to the back area of the house. He then thought to himself what he just blurted out earlier. Even though he used to call Devyn by the name, it’s all in the past now. Today, the present life he was facing is now different.
As he pushed through the door and stepped outside, the first thing he heard was the shattering sound of something fragile, followed by Devyn’s voice.
“How many times do I have to tell you that I want sugar in my tea?!” she exclaimed, scolding the maid, who was now cowering in fear and apologizing.
“I want another one right now! Do your job properly!”
The maid immediately dashed to the door and happened to see the man standing. “Good morning, Sir Kiel.” Then she immediately vanished from the scene.
Kiel sighed and saw the shattered teacup on the patio floor. Devyn was sitting on the chair in front of the table. Wearing a red silk sleeveless dress, exposing her smooth pale skin.
He wrapped the coat around her shoulders, “The weather was cold today. You shouldn't wear something like that outside, president.” He said, stepping back.
Devyn crossed her legs and continued scrolling through her phone. “Aren’t you early today?” She checked the time on the side of the screen. “We still have 2 hours before going to the company.”
“I headed out early because I sent Ellie’s allowance today.” He answered, looking at the view of the flower plants not far away from them.
Being alone like this with Devyn isn’t new to him. However, sometimes, there’s this unexplainable feeling that’s tickling him so suddenly.
Devyn loosened her grip on her phone and looked up, pulling the guy’s necktie closer to her face. “Kiel, if you need more money, you should ask me.” she smirked and let her breath tickle the man’s neck.
The man averted his eyes. “I am already satisfied with my salary right now. No need to bother the president.” He answered.
Devyn frowned and pushed him. “Such a jerk,” she snorted. “What’s my schedule today?”
Kiel cleared his throat and took out his phone. He read the schedule one by one until the last part.
“The second of the Fenrir Clan invited you to a party. He said that he already sent the invitation to the company.”
Devyn paused. “What time is it?” she asked.
“7pm tonight at the V Hotel.” He also used this opportunity to tell Devyn something. “I want to suggest that this may be a great opportunity for you to personally choose a partner for the week.”
A smirk occupied the lady’s cheeks. “That's a good idea. I might as well change my style.” She stood up and pinched the man’s cheeks. “Okay, Mr Kiel, contact my designer as soon as possible, and tell the Fenrir Clan that I will attend the party tonight.”
“Yes, Miss President.” Kiel replied.
When they reached the mansion, Madam Eveleyn was already waiting on the porch. A sweet smile formed on her face as she ordered Albert to help Kiel carry those baskets. It was about to rain, and luckily it didn’t get into them. Devyn approached her mother for a hug and then told her to get inside. Seeing Kiel, the woman was smiling ear to ear. “How are you, Kiel?” Madam Evelyn gave the guy a hug. “Is my daughter giving you a hard time?” she teased.“No madam,” he replied when they parted. “The President is diligent as always.”Madam Evelyn married her eyes and raised one brow. “You’re not trying to sugarcoat it, right?” From the back garden, another woman came in. “What do we have here?” Veronica’s voice gets all of their attention. “I see Kiel,” she grinned with hatred next to Madam Evelyn. The two women laughed at each other, reminiscing these two childhood memories that they imprinted in their thoughts.“Time really does fly fast,” Veronica whispered to the Madam, who nodded in a
After minutes of waiting, she finally saw the silhouette of the man familiar to her. She sighed and stayed beside the road while the traffic enforcers were guiding the other cars that got between the minor accidents. “I’m very sorry! I will pay for everything!” the old man, who was a taxi driver that accidentally bumped into Devyn's car, bowed and apologized to her. Seeing how expensive that red car was, he didn't know what to do but apologized. He was just a poor taxi driver, and the car wasn’t even his in the first place. He had a family to feed and a sick daughter. “Please give me a chance! I don’t want to quit this job, Maam!” He pleaded again because he knew that rich people like them will never turn an eye to him and will sue them immediately.Another man approached them. He stood next to the lady and asked. “What happened here, Miss Lowell?” Devyn replied to him. “Just a small accident. Get his name and the contact number.” Kiel looked at the old man who’s still bowing his
SATURDAYKiel woke up early today for morning exercise. Jogging from the apartment complex to the nearest park there. When he arrived, the sun was already peeking its rays to welcome the morning. He sat on the empty bench there and drank his water. He used to go to gyms every weekend, but now that he has become busier, he chooses to jog and exercising at home instead. He gulped half of the bottle and wiped the side of his lips. The sweet taste from that flavored healthy water reminds him of something. It’s like his first kiss. That first kiss he wanted to give to someone who he really liked. The horizon that was dim earlier slowly started to light up, welcoming the morning. That red and orange combination of the sky reflected in his pupils, showing a new day with new hope. The people there were also amazed by the sunrise. Everybody halted and watched that beautiful phenomenon. After minutes of admiring the sun, Kiel picked up his bottle and started to walk. He has this cafe, he’s a
The elevator opened, and she immediately took the lift. However, when her heels stepped in, the tension switched in her front which made her stumble upon someone, who happened to be inside the elevator too.“Mr. Kiel?” Anna widened her eyes as she looked up with the boxes between them. Kiel took the box from her and supported her to stand straight. “What are these boxes for, Miss Anna?” he asked.“Oh, thank you. It was the things that’s needed on the third floor. The manager called me to submit it.” She tucked her hair in ears.Feeling how heavy it was for the lady, he looked at her and asked. “Where’s Mr Mo? He should have carried this for you. This is quite heavy.”The lady chuckled. “The truth is, I’m the only one that's left in the office when the third floor called. So I happened to know about it. I don’t want to give it to anyone since I’m used to carrying documents too.” She replied. “I see, let me help you then.” Kiel checked his wristwatch. 30 minutes have already passed, a
“Good morning, Mr Kiel.”As usual, the employees in the lobby greeted him. He nodded before entering the elevator. Today he is going to meet the new team manager of the production department. He had a little interview with him.Of course, to make sure that the incident will never be repeated again, he wanted to see him for himself. The employee in the production team almost gasped upon seeing him. It is very rare for the guy to come here, and everyone wanted to see his face after what happened. They were, of course, feeling very overjoyed to finally get Mr Jin down in his place.“Mr Arnoux! Nice to see you here!” It was Ivan. One of the most energetic new recruits there. They often called him sunshine because of his goofy vibes.“Nice to see you again, Ivan. How’s work?” Kiel asked, leaning on the cubicle to check if he’s indeed working or playing chess online.“Mr Arnoux, you don’t need to check me. I’m working hard here.” Ivan pouted, pointing at his monitor. The other chuckled be
“Put him in the sales department.”Devyn replied after hearing the ruckus that happened a while ago. She knew that the sales department was harder.“He should know his place. How come he became a team manager without knowing the new rules?” she continued typing. “She needed a punishment.”“I will do that right away.” Kiel didn’t talk any further since the lady was quite busy finishing something. “Do you want a coffee?” Devyn nodded. “Yes please. Thank you.”Kiel left right away. He already has the petition of putting Mr Jin in the sales department. The work there is much harder than the production team. It’s where you are assigned to visit a client’s home and pursue them to buy a product. Devyn was right. Mr Jin needed to appreciate other people’s hard work and efforts. He’s still lucky because the lady put him in that section. If it were some other company president, he would surely lose his job right on the spot. Kiel delivered the coffee and went back to the media department. As
