Chapter 8

Author: No Toothache
My dad was a conservative man. At that moment, he cast a stern look my way. He demanded to know. "Daph, what's all this?"

I reined in my grief and told him everything that had happened amid Liam and Tanya's looks of disbelief. Tanya almost asked me how I knew the truth, but she shut up when Liam shot her a warning look.

Liam growled at me, "Daphne, do you not realize your mistake? How could you blame everything on Tanya and me just to clear your name? You've changed!"

"Right, Daph. You shouldn't slander me and Liam. Does our friendship mean nothing to you? How about you show me the evidence?"

"You want evidence? Here you go."

I played the recording on Caleb's recorder. Tanya's voice, distorted by envy, echoed in the silent hall.

"Yeah. I'm jealous of Daph. She's nice to me, but I can't stand the fact she has everything. I want everything that belongs to her—her family, her parents' love, her boyfriend.

"Here's 300 thousand dollars if you can get Daphne to be with any of your gu

  • That Beauty Salon   Chapter 7

A shiver crept up my spine after Caleb told me the truth. Everything that had happened proved his words right. For example, I had refused to get a facial at that particular salon, but Tanya convinced me that the salon was excellent. After that, she left me alone there. When her session was over, she joined Liam in his car without waiting for me. She even deliberately questioned me about the hickey on my neck in Liam's presence, planting seeds of suspicion.I dared not think any deeper. Even so, I denied it outright. "I don't believe you. Liam loves me. He wouldn't betray me."I paused before adding, "And you, Caleb, didn't you ask me to come here to expose me to Liam? What exactly do you want from me? And by the way, when did my dad start sponsoring you?"Caleb looked exasperated at my unwillingness to trust him. Without saying a word, he pulled out a voice recorder and pressed play. Tanya's familiar voice echoed through the room, and her words plunged me into despair.I couldn't

  • That Beauty Salon   Chapter 6

My mind went blank when I realized that my boyfriend had cheated on me with my childhood friend. Sadly, I couldn't gather the courage to confront them, as I believed I, too, had cheated on Liam. Technically, I didn't sleep with Caleb, but we did everything else in between.Caleb put away his phone after I stopped watching the clip. "See that, Daph? Why bother saving yourself for your boyfriend when he's already cheated on you?"He reached out to take off my clothes. I knew I had to turn down his advances, but I couldn't help subjecting myself to his charm.Perhaps, I was too burdened with the knowledge of Liam's betrayal and self-blame. My mind was too muddled to make a decision to push Caleb away. Before long, Caleb and I were undressed. He pulled a blanket over us. Right when he was about to start pleasuring me, someone kicked the door open.I jumped in shock and peered in the direction of the door. There, I found Liam and Tanya standing side-by-side.Before my brain could proc

  • That Beauty Salon   Chapter 5

Caleb had daringly met with me at my workplace, and Liam shared the same office building with me. Of course Liam would learn about my meeting with Caleb.Avoiding his eyes, I lied, feeling guilty, "Oh, he's a friend of my dad's relative. You haven't met him before. Liam, since we're getting married, I'm thinking of taking a relaxing break on our honeymoon. Where do you think we should go?""Anywhere you like," he answered. "I have some work to be done. I'll leave you to your matters."I wondered if I was hallucinating or if Liam was being rather cold to me. He wasn't like this before. Did he know something? Had Caleb ratted me out?I needed to confront Caleb about this. So, I messaged him on Instagram and agreed to meet at a café in the suburbs west of the city, all because I was scared of being found out by Liam. But Caleb refused to meet me there. He wanted to meet at a three-star hotel near his college instead. Worried he might have some tricks up his sleeve, I declined his sug

While speaking, Caleb knowingly lifted an eyebrow. My expression immediately fell. I yelled at him, "What do you plan to do?""Nothing. I just like you a lot, Daph. I want to—"I scoffed. "Let's get to the point. Just tell me how much you want."It dawned on me that Caleb wasn't satisfied with the few thousand dollars I offered him yesterday. He wanted more money in exchange for his silence. That was the reason behind his lipstick delivery today.A problem that could be resolved by money was no problem at all.His expression shifted, and his hold on his coffee cup tightened. He asserted, "I'm not doing this for money.""What are you doing this for, then? You looked into my contact and my company address. Are you seriously telling me you're not doing this to blackmail me?""Daph, believe me or not, I won't harm you. You need to reconsider marrying your boyfriend." Caleb had left a bad impression on me, but my attitude softened after he repeatedly addressed me by my nickname. I

Tanya had always been rather bold and reckless. I could make out the sound of a guy panting heavily in the background.Frowning, I confronted her, "Tanya, did you know that you brought me to a sex shop today?""And what's wrong with that? Daph, you're getting married soon. You should take the chance to have some fun!"So, Tanya knew. I angrily barked, "Tanya, I'm different from you. You knew I was getting married to a conservative guy, but you still lied to me and brought me to a salon. Did you know I almost—"My words piqued her interest. "Go on! I heard the new guy in room 208 was a virgin…""Nothing happened between us! Don't ever bring me to that kind of place. Forget about this visit. If you do this to me again, I'll drop you as a friend!"Tanya was flustered by my furious response. She immediately promised, "I'm sorry, Daph. I wanted you to relax because you were stressed out by work."She added, "Anyway, you didn't cheat on Liam, so you shouldn't worry about it. Who knows
