Chapter 2

Author: Perfect Timing
Rage boiled over, and I stormed up to the stage, slapping Selena hard across the face.

Her eyes immediately reddened, and tears streamed down her face.

“Trish, I can look past how you always make my life hard. But this is my wedding!” she cried. “Who has ever heard of giving a bouquet back after a swap? These glass bouquets are all over online shopping platforms for just ten bucks. Fine, I’ll give you a hundred to make up for it!”

My fiancé, Ian Carter, rushed to the stage and shielded her behind his back, while my brother, Sean Scott, stormed toward me, his face dark. Without a word, he slapped me hard across my cheek.

“Enough. It’s just a bouquet! If you want one, I’ll buy you a truckload. Stop making a scene. This is Selena’s wedding!”

I stared at him, shaking with anger as I shouted, “That bouquet is mine! It was carved from the finest jade by Granddad himself! It’s his blessing to me!”

“Blessing?” Sean sneered. “It’s just a bunch of flowers. You’re acting like a spoiled princess. Do you have to embarrass us on a day like this?”

Furious, I demanded that Selena pay for the damage and threatened to fire her.

“Miss Scott, please, don’t fire me. My mother had served your family for years and ruined her health doing it. Please, don’t do this to me…” Selena said, smearing me on purpose.

I couldn’t hold back from grabbing her and demanding an answer. In the middle of the struggle, she gave me a sly, triumphant smile, yanked on my wedding dress, and let herself fall backward. With a loud rip, a huge tear split across my gown.

It was supposed to be a day of celebration between two families, but with so many reporters and cameras present, my indecent photos were everywhere within minutes. Ian’s face turned ashen. Right there, he announced he was breaking off the engagement.

I instantly became the laughingstock of high society. Online, not only were my photos plastered everywhere, but so was a video of me “pushing” Selena off the stage. The internet mob tore into me.

My mother was so worried she rushed back from overseas, but on the way home, her plane crashed. Crushed by grief, I locked myself in the house, refusing to step outside. After a month, my body began to change drastically. That was when I discovered Selena had been slipping hormone pills into my food.

“I’m only doing this for your own good, Trish,” she said sweetly. “These are top-notch antidepressants. You’ve been isolating yourself, and I was worried…”

By then, Sean had moved her into our home. He even told her warmly that it was now her home.

Selena wore the evening gown my mother had custom-ordered for me. She flaunted the jewelry my mother had paid a fortune to win at auction. She walked in and out of elite social circles as if she’d always belonged.

When I screamed at her to get out, Sean slapped me so hard I fell to the ground.

“Look at yourself,” he snarled. “You look like a fat pig now. Wearing these clothes would only make you more of a joke. Selena looks so much better in them than you ever did. She has been representing our family over the past weeks and making us proud. I’ve accepted her as my sister. She’s part of the Scott family now!”

He looked at me, his eyes full of disgust.

Not only that, but my former fiancé Ian had fallen head over heels for her, becoming her loyal protector. In the meantime, Selena’s husband, Flynn Walter, used her to break into high society. Soon, with a powerful backer, he rose even higher. All three men worshipped Selena like she was made of gold.

Then, on her birthday, she staged it so it looked like I had pushed her, while she was pregnant, down a flight of stairs. That was when the three of them turned on me completely.

Sean threw me out of the house and froze all my accounts; Ian sent people to break my limbs; Flynn unleashed a gang of thugs on me, tormenting me day and night.

I took my last breath, choking on rage and despair.

And Selena? She became their princess, the darling of the elite.

When I opened my eyes again, I was holding the bouquet in my hands once more. A dark, unreadable light flickered in my eyes.

Ian panicked. He wanted desperately to return to the Carters. However, Gwen had handed over evidence of his embezzling of company funds to James Carter, their father.James was so furious that he suffered a stroke and was left half-paralyzed in bed. With the company’s finances in shambles, James had no choice but to sell off Carter Inc.’s shares.Through our cooperation, Gwen quietly bought them up at low prices. Piece by piece, she swallowed all of Carter Inc. without anyone realizing until it was too late. As for Ian, he was abandoned by the Carters and reduced to homelessness.Meanwhile, Sean tried to resist, relying on the core technology he still controlled. However, even he was betrayed. Flynn, tired of Sean’s arrogance, secretly leaked his technology to rival companies. Just like that, Sean lost his last bargaining chip.“It’s about time we close the net,” I said with a smile, finishing the last sip of tea in my hand. The alliance of four collapsed quickly. Ian, abandoned a

After Sean left the Scott family, he quickly pulled out everything he had invested in Scott Corporation. Together with Ian and Selena’s husband, Flynn, he founded a new company. At first, both Sean and Ian were strapped for cash. After all, they had lost a hundred million dollars. Hence, when Flynn failed to contribute any capital, they were annoyed with him. During his years at Scott Corporation, Sean had managed to steal some core technologies. Those technologies brought him significant profit, helping him gain a foothold almost immediately. With that, Sean grew arrogant. He truly believed he could rise higher than Scott Corporation itself.I poured tea into Mom’s cup and Gwen’s, smiling faintly. “The prey has taken the bait.”To ruin someone completely, all you had to do was lift them high first. The higher they fell, the more fatal the kill.“I’ve had people spread word that Scott Corporation is running into cash flow problems,” I explained.Mom’s eyes shone with approval.

“Mom…” I dove into her arms.“My girl, you’ve been through so much.” She stroked my hair, her eyes full of tenderness.“How is this possible… Wasn’t your flight the one that crashed?” Sean asked“Oh, that flight?” she answered lightly. “I never boarded that plane. I can’t believe you’re bold enough to bribe my assistant, Sean. If I hadn’t come back, who knows where you two illegitimate siblings would’ve sent my daughter off to? Hiring killers is a crime, Sean. You really went that far, huh?”Sean’s eyes flickered sinisterly. Even if we found out, without proof, he’d walk free.Mom’s face hardened. Did they really think she was dead and gone?“Sean,” she said, voice icy, “you may be a Scott, but you’re not a part of this family. By blood, we’re not related at all. You have no right to inherit anything from us. When your father passed away early, I only kept you around because I pitied you and because I thought Trisha needed someone to watch over her, but it seems I have raised a t

“Ms. Scott?”I smirked at the assistant standing before me, then glanced around the office. Sure enough, almost everyone in the company had been replaced.“Most of the shareholders have arrived. Would you like to review the refreshments and snacks before the meeting?”Selena forced herself to stay composed as she stepped past me. Pointing at me with a look of disdain, she snapped, “Just serve these. And tell me, who let in an outsider? Don’t you know today’s the shareholders’ meeting?”“I’ll throw her out immediately,” the assistant said, bowing and scraping.I fixed my gaze on the assistant. “If you don’t want to be fired, you’d better not listen to her. I want to see Sean.”The assistant’s eyes flashed with mockery. “And who do you think you are? Ms. Scott is Mr. Scott’s most beloved sister! Leave now, or don’t blame us for getting rough!”Selena looked up from her phone, her voice suddenly sharp. “The records department just reported a missing file. Was that you? I saw you sn

He looked at me, as if he couldn’t believe what he’d just saw.I nodded. “The media should still have the footage.”There was no way I was going to let Sean sweep that under the rug. Selena’s face went pale as she glanced between Sean and Ian. Despair filled her eyes. That bouquet was really worth a hundred million? Even if she sold herself, she could never repay it.“Fine, we’ll pay!”Sean and Ian gritted their teeth and finally stepped forward. With so many influential people watching, dragging it out any longer would only make things worse.“Pay? You think money can fix this? That bouquet was priceless! Trisha’s already being merciful, offering it to us for just a hundred million!”“Do you even understand the kind of sin you’ve committed?”Mr. Crossby and Mr. Lincoln, both long-time patrons of art and history, glared at the four of them with such fury that it looked like they might tear them apart on the spot.“Mr. Crossby, Mr. Lincoln, please don’t be upset…” I said soft

Just as expected, Ian, Sean, and Flynn immediately rushed onto the stage to shield Selena behind them.Sean swung at me, but I dodged nimbly. In turn, he lost his balance and stumbled toward the edge of the stage. I didn’t hesitate to give him a firm kick and sent him tumbling down. Thankfully, I had switched my heels for flats in the car earlier.I turned my gaze back to Selena, a faint, mocking smile tugging at my lips.“Do you have any idea what it is you just smashed?”“It’s just a glass bouquet!” Selena’s eyes reddened as she pretended to look pitiful. “You can find those for ten bucks online!” she argued again.Sean’s face darkened from below the stage. “Enough. If you like it so much, I’ll order you a truckload of them! Get down now. You’re embarrassing yourself.”After all, it was still my wedding day. No matter how furious he was, he didn’t dare make a scene in front of everyone.“Trisha, if you keep making things hard for Selena, then this wedding’s off,” Ian threate
