Chapter 9

ผู้เขียน: Crystelle Heart
The next day, right before my flight, Donna showed up.

She looked wrecked—dead eyes, messy hair, like she'd aged ten years overnight.

The second she spotted me, she bolted, smacking into people left and right. Didn't even say sorry. Just popped back up and kept charging like a crazy person.

People yelled after her, "Watch where you're going!" but she tuned it all out.

She finally caught up, clawing at my arm to block my path.

"Hector, I'm sorry! It's all my fault. Don't leave. My company's tanking, everyone quit—I'm begging you, help me one more time."

My voice was ice. "Not my problem."

But Donna didn't know how to shut up.

"Didn't you love me most? How can you just watch me suffer? You're only leaving because I messed up. If you're this hurt, it means you still care, right?"

I stared. Shameless didn't even scratch the surface.

She twisted my silence into hope.

"I can see it—you haven't let me go. Don't punish us both. Seeing you like this hurts me too. I love you. More tha

Sure enough, the next time I saw Donna was on Fremora's news. She was wearing the wedding dress I'd once bought her, hunched over, muttering my name on loop."Hector... Hector..."Didn't matter what anyone asked—she ignored them, stuck on repeat. Her hair was a matted wreck. The dress was filthy, ripped apart like it had been clawed to shreds. Blood streaked the corner of her mouth. Her arms and legs were covered in scars—fresh ones layered over old. Looked like she'd been taking hits for a while. Finally, some kind soul offered to take her to a psych hospital. She fought it at first, until the person whispered, "Hector's there, waiting for you."Her eyes lit up, and just like that, she went. The camera cut to the hospital doors.Donna bolted inside, tearing around the halls, desperate, searching for me.When she couldn't find me, she froze, then crumpled to the floor, sobbing."He doesn't want me anymore. He left. He went abroad."Before anyone could react, she suddenly sp

When she realized I wasn't moving, Donna started smacking herself."Didn't you mess up too? You'd slap yourself, and I'd forgive you. Now I'm slapping myself—can't you forgive me?"Her eyes welled up, her voice dripping fake sincerity. Almost convincing—almost. But I knew better. I'd never actually done anything wrong. My so-called "mistakes" were just whatever she decided to nitpick.Coming home late. Washing dishes too slow. Drinking water too loud. Each one sent her into a tantrum, and every time, I had to hit myself and beg just to calm her down. And now she had the nerve to throw that garbage back in my face.I stared her down, ice-cold. She stared back, pitiful and desperate. When I stayed silent, she kept smacking herself, whining, "Since the day I met you, this is the only mistake I've made. I'm suffering, I'm repenting—can't you forgive me? If not now, at least give me a way out. Invest in my company, don't let it die!"She always acted like money didn't matter. Please

Alec glanced at me at my desk, fear written all over his face. He knew I could end him with one word—this job was the best he'd ever land in Fremora. I just waved him off, telling him to get out. After Alec left, Donna crumpled into tears and snot. "Honey, let me explain. I didn't know it was Alec I'd been sending money to. You know I never cared about money. You gave me six hundred grand a year, and I couldn't spend it all, so I sponsored poor college kids."I just stared, waiting to see how much more she'd spin. She kept going. "That stuff about me visiting him abroad? Total lie. Maybe we crossed paths by accident. I meet so many people, I don't even remember him." Then came the pout—pathetic. That look used to crack me. Now it just made me sick."I've told you everything," she whined. "I never hid anything, I've never lied. And I'm pregnant with your baby. We love each other, so let's not divorce, okay?"Still lying. And yeah, this marriage was toast.I got up and dragged her

Out in the hall, the whispers were brutal:"Isn't that the lady who proposed to Alec this morning? And now she's here with our CEO? In the same day?"Donna snapped back, "I'm Hector Leandro's wife—eight years! This morning was just for show, okay?"My assistant dragged her into my office. She took a quick look around, then strutted straight to me, sat on my lap like nothing was wrong, and hooked her arms around my neck."Oh, honey," she cooed, "are you mad 'cause you saw me in a wedding dress with Alec?"You got it all wrong. He's my client. His fiancée's my size, so I just tried it on for her."And that whole 'intimacy' thing? I was just coaching him, making sure he wouldn't look awkward around her."I shoved her off. She hit the couch, sprawled out like some tragic movie star, eyes full of fake tears.I kept my face blank. "Head to Pearson Law Firm later, sign the divorce papers, and don't ever show up in front of me again."Her smile dropped. She looked like she wanted to e

As I headed downstairs, Donna came charging after me, waving the termination contract."Hector, where'd you get this?"I laughed—cold, flat—and opened the car door."You really thought your investor believed in your startup? Please. It was all because you were my wife. Now we're not. Contract's up. We're done."I went to shut the door, but she shoved it back with all she had."You're the investor? You're tied to Leandro Corp?"I nodded, cool as ever."I AM Leandro Corp. Hector Leandro. CEO."Her jaw dropped. Silence. Then—"Honey, the divorce thing? Total joke. Just trying to keep things exciting, y'know? Thought it'd bring us closer."I scoffed inside. In her head, I was still the guy she could snap her fingers for—come here, go away, heel.Eight years of playing her simp. Obey, and she was my queen. Now? She was nothing.I didn't even flinch. Just wanted to shut the door and be done. Then she snapped. "I TOLD you it was a joke! Why are you making this worse? I'm apologi
