Chapter 1

"Lila, I know you are understanding and considerate so today marks Rebecca's birthing day and my parents invited her to the den for a meal. But don't worry. You're the only one who can ever be my Luna — there's no place for her in my heart or in the pack."

Rebecca hid behind him, tenderly grasping his hand.

On her slender ring finger, the dazzling Howl Gems ring flashed.

The ring Terrence had sworn beneath the full moon was destined for my finger on my 6th anniversary bonding day.

Noticing my gaze, Terrence tugged her hand down sheepishly.

"Luna Lila, that bracelet looks so lovely on you," Rebecca said with a sweet smile, her voice laced with false innocence.

Terrence hurriedly wanted to say something, but I smiled.

I unclasped the bracelet. "Here it is. After all, it's a gift from the Howl Gems ring on your finger, take it, it's just right for a matching set."

Tears welled in her eyes instantly, "Forgive me, Luna Lila! If I have offended you, punish me! But please... spare my innocent pup!"

Terrence immediately frowned.

"Lila!" he snapped, his Alpha voice cracking like a whip. "Rebecca knows nothing of these things! Why bully her so?

It's just a ring. I'll buy you another."

I laughed bitterly, and I felt a sheer stab of pain weighing down my heart.

I hadn't laid a claw on her, yet I was cast as the villain.

Terrence's cell phone rang, and he squeezed my hand, softly coaxing, "Don't lose your temper, let's go back and talk about what's going on."

He turned and strode purposefully towards the den entrance.

Rebecca seized the moment, slinking closer, "Luna Lila, today is my birthday. Terrence specially ordered my favorite blueberry cake for me. Won't you share my joy?"

Hearing "blueberry cake", a wave of cold dread washed over me, and I instinctively recoiled.

blueberry cake had been my childhood favorite, a treat I craved every year on my birthday.

But that ended on my 12th birthday.

My mother, determined to get me the best blueberry cake across the territory, ventured out alone. On her way back, she was ambushed and savagely killed by a pack of rogues. She died because of my childish whim, because she was bringing me that damned cake.

That day, every blueberry was stained with blood, spilling all over the ground, stabbing me in the heart, and becoming my lifelong nightmare.

Every crumb of that uneaten cake became a symbol of my guilt.

The very sight of blueberry or their confections plunged me back into that horror, the crushing weight of knowing her death was tied to my desire.

I vowed then, amidst the grief and self-loathing, that I would never, ever eat blueberry cake again.

However, Rebecca jammed a chunk toward my mouth, her nails digging into my flesh with a force not unlike a pregnant wolf.

"I won't eat it!"

I swatted her hand away anxiously, not exerting much force, but she fell back with a shriek.

"Ah..."

A maid just happened to come out of the kitchen, holding a pot of scalding moon-bane soup.

The searing liquid cascaded over me.

Terrence stormed back in, and what he saw was the scene of Rebecca "weeping" pitifully on the floor and crying her eyes out.

"Luna Lila! I only wish to share my joy with a piece of cake! How could you... push me like that? It was my obsession to stay by Terrence's side that made you angry, but the pup is innocent."

I looked at her incredulously.

"Lila!" Terrence's golden eyes turned bloody, and his voice was cold as ice, "I told you that Rebecca is just having two pups for me. She won't affect your position, why are you so intolerant of her?"

"I didn't!" I choked through the burning pain, my vision blurring. I pointed desperately towards the den's surveillance cameras embedded in the walls. "Check them! The truth is there!"

Seeing this, Rebecca immediately jumped into his arms, covering her stomach and crying loudly, "Terrence! Alpha! The pup... I feel... something's wrong!"

He scooped her up with frantic urgency, and his face was full of panic and heartache. Spotting the blueberry cake on the floor near me, his golden eyes blazing with Alpha rage.

"Lila," his voice was a low, dangerous growl that vibrated through the den, "Your kindness has withered and died. If you refuse her gift so violently, then..."

He turned his furious gaze on the servants, "Make your Luna finish it. Not a single bite left."

"Terrence!" I fought desperately, "I can't! The blurberry... you know what they do to me!"

But he was already striding away with Rebecca, his mind solely on her and her pup. Over his shoulder, Rebecca shot me a look of pure, venomous triumph.

Terrence's parents, murmuring disapproval, left soon with their grandpups.

The servants, obeying their Alpha's command without question, forced me down.

One clamped my jaw open while another shoved chunks of the cursed blueberry cake down my throat.

But the true horror was the familiar, gut-churning terror as the blueberry hit my system. My wolf howled in distress within me.

Half an hour later, several warriors entered the room.Rebecca and her mother looked at them, puzzled."Miss Rebecca, Alpha Terrence has arranged your bonding ceremony in the Northern territory. We're here to escort you. Please come with us now."Rebecca's face lit with triumph. "Wait a moment, let me change my clothes...""No need," another warrior cut in, gripping her arm firmly as they hauled her from the bed. "Alpha Terrence has prepared everything. Your presence is all that's required."Blind with giddy anticipation, neither Rebecca nor her mother sensed the lethal undercurrent. They followed the warriors out.Further down the corridor, Terrence watched their retreating and jubilant figures with glacial indifference. He thought of their curse on me.Perfect. He would make the curse work on them.Meanwhile, after a full two weeks in a coma, I finally opened my eyes. The he-wolf at my bedside was rough with stubble, his jade-green eyes bloodshot. His calloused hand clasped mine with

A thunderous explosion seemed to detonate inside Terrence's skull. He staggered, his legs buckling beneath him, barely catching himself against the cold emergency room wall. When he finally wrestled his voice back, it was a shattered, unrecognizable rasp. "Wh-where... where is she?"The nurse muttered softly, "Sh-she was taken, Alpha. After... after life faded... a he-wolf came. He claimed her form. They left... moments ago. For the Moon's Resting Grounds, perhaps?"Terrence's face contorted. Then, a desperate, self-deceiving laugh appeared on his face, "Dead? Impossible!""She was fine! That blood... just a trick! A jealous tantrum! A blood-pouch hidden..."The nurse dared a whisper, barely audible. "Her gown... Alpha... it clung like a second skin. No pouch could hide... that much..."The words landed like silver daggers. Terrence's vision swam, his golden eyes flooding with a deep, unnatural crimson. A raw, guttural howl tore from his throat, echoing through the sterile corridor.

The torrent of demands spilled from Rebecca's lips, each one more extravagant than the last. Terrence's brow furrowed deeper with every word, a knot of irritation tightening in his chest. He couldn't help but recall the simple, unadorned ring on my finger, worn almost smooth over the years. That ring was bought with the last coin of his savings during his pack's darkest, hungriest winters. He remembered the way my eyes had shimmered, not with greed, but with pure, fierce joy, when he'd offered it.Even later, when his territory prospered and riches flowed, when he draped me in jewels fit for a Luna. But my devotion remained fixed on that humble one.For years uncounted, I'd borne the title Luna Lila, yet moved with quiet grace, shunning ostentation. Now, spurred by a single, desperate promise he'd made to Rebecca, this she-wolf clung to him like a parasite, seemingly intent on draining him dry.Even her kins audaciously demanded dens and Silvermane Chargers! He'd chosen Rebecca precis

The pack doctor shook his head, taking a step back, his expression etched with weary resignation. "Declare her dead. Her wolf has faded into the Moon Goddess's embrace."A nurse nearby glanced towards the corridor door and sighed softly. "Ah, both she-wolves... yet worlds apart. Alpha in the next emergency room hasn't left his Luna for a heartbeat. And this one... gone, and no one to mourn her.""Enough. Don't you know that's the Luna of our Twilight Pack? Alpha Terrence and Luna Lila, their bond was legendary across the territories! This poor soul... she can't compare. Let's see if we can find any kin to claim this she-wolf."The nurse nodded, moving to pull the white shroud over my body. Just as her hand touched the cloth, the emergency room doors were thrown open."Don't touch her, or lose your claws!"A he-wolf strode in urgently with the fluid grace of a powerful wolf. When his gaze locked onto my pale face, he froze. His eyes were full of agony with a startling shade of jade-gree

My hand shot out instinctively to stop her. But before my claws could graze her, Rebecca stumbled backward dramatically, clutching her belly as she landed hard on her rump."Ah! Luna Lila, why push me...?"I froze, rooted to the spot. Then Terrence roughly shoved me aside.Seeing Rebecca's pale face and hearing her theatrical moans, his golden Alpha eyes blazed with fury. And his hand, heavy with Alpha strength, slapped against my cheek like thunder.I was flung sideways, crashing to the floor. And my face instantly swelled. I felt the world was tilting violently."Lila, if any harm, any shadow of fear that touches Rebecca or my pups because of you, I will demand your life in payment!"He scooped Rebecca up with frantic urgency and charged out of the den like a wolf possessed.Left alone in the wreckage, I crawled on my knees. I gathered the shattered fragments of the moonstone pendant. "Forgive me, Mother," I choked out, tears blurring the broken pieces, "I was wrong... so wrong... to

Only for the pup's sake? How could he still claim innocence?I felt it was sarcastic, and I heard him sigh in regret."If only I hadn't ingested the wolfsbane by accident, I would never be forced to touch another she-wolf, nor would my darling have had to suffer.Besides you, I never wanted to touch any other she-wolf."As soon as the words left his mouth, Rebecca's cry pierced the den from the floor below.Terrence wrenched himself away from me with the speed of a startled wolf, bolting downstairs with frantic, single-minded urgency. The force of his movement slammed me backward. My temple cracked sickeningly against the sharp edge of the door handle. The blood gushed out and streamed down my face, blurring my vision with a crimson haze. After what felt like an eternity, the bleeding from my forehead finally stopped, leaving only a burning pain.Minutes later, staggering upright through the pain, I froze at the top of the stairs.Through the banister rails, I saw them. Terrence stood
