Candice POV

Morning had barely begun, the sky still wearing that soft grey before the sun fully broke through, when I stepped into the hallway.

I wasn’t expecting to run into anyone—not in this maze of a house where silence stretched between the walls like a second skin—but there she was.

Alora.

Leaning against the bannister like she owned the place, her long legs crossed neatly at the ankle, perfectly manicured fingers twirling a strand of her hair, as if she’d been waiting for me.

Her lips curved into a slow, deliberate smile. The kind of smile that looked beautiful on the outside but felt like poison underneath.

“Well, good morning,” she said sweetly, though there was nothing sweet in her tone. “I was wondering when you’d wake up.”

I gave her a polite nod, intending to walk past her, but she shifted slightly, blocking my path.

“You know,” she continued, crossing her arms as her eyes raked over me with a sneer, “I saw the two of you at that charity event. You and Dorian.”

She said h

  • The Accidental Surrogate's Secret   Chapter 49- Lets Talk

Doiran povThat afternoon had started like any other after we got back from the store where I got Candice that wedding gown. I had just finished going over some files in my study when my phone buzzed with a message from my assistant. Apparently, an auction house had sent over a personal invitation. I didn’t even bother to read the details at first. I wasn’t in the mood for fancy events or overpriced antiques.Without thinking, I told him to reject it. I didn’t care how exclusive the auction was, or who else would be there. But before he could respond, another call came through. This one wasn’t about the auction—it was about something else entirely. A deal we’d been working on for months was on the brink of falling apart, and my patience was running thin.I picked up the call and listened as the voice on the other end scrambled to explain the situation. Excuses. That’s all I heard. Weak, useless excuses.I was already angry, my jaw clenched so tightly it hurt. The idiot on the line ha

  • The Accidental Surrogate's Secret   Chapter 48- The Call

Candice’s POVAt first, I thought it would be simple. Dorian had already made that bold offer for the bracelet, and no one else seemed interested. Everyone had stepped aside without a word, watching us with knowing smiles. But then—Alora.Alora stood there with her perfectly painted smile and her chin raised like she owned the whole room. She didn’t look nervous or unsure. In fact, she looked proud—like she’d been waiting for this exact moment to make a scene. And it worked.I could feel my chest tightening as I stared at her, but what made it worse was Dorian’s expression. He looked… shocked. Almost confused. Like he hadn’t expected anyone—especially not her—to drag the bid out this far.He was stunned. And honestly? So was I.The auctioneer paused at the podium, clearly unsure what to do next. Then, trying to keep things moving, he raised his gavel and called out in a dramatic voice, “We have a new bid of three hundred thousand! Do I hear four hundred thousand?”“Three hundred thou

Candice’s POVBefore I knew it, the lights dimmed slightly, and soft classical music began to play through hidden speakers. A tall, well-dressed man walked onto the stage with a warm smile, holding a microphone. The auction had officially begun. My heart thudded lightly as I looked around. Everything about the room screamed luxury—from the glittering chandelier above our heads to the velvet-covered chairs we were sitting on. The guests looked just as expensive, whispering quietly behind their fans and glasses of wine, their eyes locked on the stage. The first item up for auction was an ancient porcelain vase from the Qing dynasty. Blue and white, with delicate hand-painted dragons swirling around it. The starting price was already sky-high. Dorian leaned toward me, his voice low and casual.“Do you like it?” he asked.I blinked, surprised. “It’s nice,” I said honestly, “but I don’t need it.”He simply nodded, raising his eyebrow a little, but said nothing. The next item was a limited-

  • The Accidental Surrogate's Secret   Chapter 46- Under The Spotlight

Candice’s POVI knew I’d been caught.I realized I hadn’t fooled him one bit.Still, I tried.“Erm… erm…” I stuttered like a schoolgirl caught sneaking a snack before dinner. “I just… I just wanted to check if you’d already left.”It was a weak excuse, and we both knew it.Dorian raised an eyebrow, that amused smirk never leaving his face. “Oh? Is that what it was?” he said, his voice low and teasing. “Didn’t really look like you were checking if I had left, though. Looked more like you were pretending to sleep.”I opened my mouth but no words came out. There was nothing I could say. Nothing that wouldn’t sound even more suspicious. I turned my head away quickly, hoping to hide how embarrassed I was—but I could still hear the smile in his voice. He leaned back a little, resting his arm on the side of the chair, completely at ease. “So,” he added, this time with a slightly mocking tone, “do you still feel… unwell?”I shook my head before I could stop myself. That smirk of his deepened.

  • The Accidental Surrogate's Secret   Chapter 45- Caught Red Handed

Candice’s POVThere was a knock at my door.I jumped. My heart was still recovering from what I’d overheard earlier, so the sound startled me more than it should have. For a moment, I thought about not answering. Maybe if I stayed quiet, whoever it was would just leave. But then I heard his voice.“Candice, it’s me.”Dorian.I closed my eyes and took a shaky breath. My pulse was racing again. I didn’t know what he wanted, and a part of me didn’t want to find out. But I couldn’t avoid him forever.I quickly wiped my palms on my dress and tried to calm down. I stood up, smoothing my hair and straightening my face into something that looked… normal. Calm. Like I hadn’t just been panicking in my room. When I opened the door, he walked in like he always did—confident, cool, unreadable. He didn’t seem to notice how tense I was, or maybe he just didn’t care.“There’s a charity auction happening tomorrow night,” he said, getting straight to the point. “You’ll be going with me.”I blinked.Wha

  • The Accidental Surrogate's Secret   Chapter 44- What If?

Candice POVI sat there in the car beside Dorian, still staring out the window, but I wasn’t really seeing anything. When he finally spoke, his voice was calm, smooth, like nothing that happened today meant anything at all.Just like that. Simple. Casual. Like he was talking about buying someone a cup of coffee or an extra bottle of water at the store. Like it wasn’t a big deal. But to me… it was.My chest tightened in pain. I quickly blinked away the sting in my eyes before it could become anything more. I didn’t want to cry. Of course, I should’ve known better.Of course Dorian would explain it like that.Of course he would try to make it sound meaningless.Because to him, it probably was.Just a moment. A nice gesture. A passing thought. To me, it had felt like something more—even if just for a second.Just for a second, in that dress, with his eyes on me and the shop assistant calling us a couple, I had almost let myself believe in something ridiculous.Something I had no right t
