Amari finished her meal and stood from the dining room table to leave.

“Sit,” Alexander demanded.

“Why? I’m finished with my meal.”

“I haven’t dismissed you,” he reminded her. Amari complied and returned to her seat. She focused her attention on the tapestry on the wall to avoid the awkwardness of being in Alexander’s presence.

“Camilla should be sitting where you right now,” Alexander said suddenly.

“Here we go,” Amari mumbled, getting fed up with Alexander constantly referring to her deceased sister who she couldn’t give a damn about.

“Excuse me?”

“You bring her up more than you should considering that she tricked you. You don’t even miss her. You’re trying to rub her in my face. For what? I couldn’t tell you because I don’t have feelings for you and don’t think of you in that way. I can’t say that I’m sorry for your loss. Plus, if you truly believed I had anything to do with Camilla’s death, then you wouldn’t keep me around, and you surely wouldn’t cuddle with me at night.”

It was five days later, and Amari was assimilating into her new duties smoothly. She was still lagging Kevin and Logan when it came to surveillance, but they reassured her that as an amateur, she was doing well. She had 25 days left until she could leave, but now, she was unsure if she wanted to. She was no longer being bullied every day and the other wolves didn’t disrespect her, though they were standoffish towards her. She wondered if Alexander had something to do with that. She had a less hectic workload with easier tasks, and she no longer had to struggle through heinous chores for several hours a day. Not to mention, she was allowed to eat at the dining room table and not in the kitchen like some lowly slave. The only downfall of being with the Artemis Pack was Alexander. He was confusing with a capital “C” and frequently left her with whiplash from his ever-changing mood swings. One moment, he was pleasant, and she didn’t mind being around him, and in another moment, he could b

Amari’s eyes wouldn’t stop rolling as she climbed the winding staircase of the castle with Alexander hot on her heels. He was still bitching and complaining about her missing dinner and the thought of kicking him in the chest and watching him tumble down the stairs crossed her mind more than it should have. She stopped in her tracks and whirled around to confront him. “Are you done?”“Excuse me?”“Are…you…done? English. Do you speak it?” She bit back her smile to keep from laughing. Alexander’s eyes repeatedly flashed from his natural shade to his wolf. He was barely holding it together and she knew it.“I speak English and five other languages. What about you?” he challenged.“Six.”“Excuse me?”“I speak English and six other languages. Do better, Alex.”“Do not call me Alex,” he reprimanded quickly. She lifted an eyebrow and stared him down from his position below her. She wanted to call him “asshole,” but didn’t want to try her luck.“How was the football game, Alex?” she asked as

Alexander clenched his teeth as he stared at Amari’s empty seat. It was well past 6:00 in the evening, and she should have completed her surveillance duties for the day. He had gone as far as calling Sharon to confirm. Where was she? Did she possibly leave the estate without Alexander or his security team noticing? If that were the case, then he needed to get rid of the whole team and start again from scratch.“This girl is so fucking inconsiderate,” he seethed, throwing his dinner napkin onto the table. He kicked back his chair and went to look for her. It didn’t take long for him to realize Amari was no longer in the castle. He entered the gardens thinking he would find her there, but was greatly dismayed. The sound of bones cracking and growling filled the air as he shifted into his wolf. HE had caught a faint whiff of her scent coming from the forest surrounding the castle. Titus now had control and wouldn’t stop until Amari was located.Titus shot off to the forest and let out a

“Where are you going?” Amari questioned as she scurried out of the pool room behind Sharon.“I’m going to have a few choice words with Alpha Alexander…respectfully.”“About what?”“About how I am rejecting you from the security team.”“You can’t do that,” Amari cried out, running in front of Sharon, hoping to block her.“I can, and I will. You would only be a liability. I understand if you need a job, but perhaps you’ll be better suited in the kitchen,” Sharon huffed.“I hate working in the kitchen,” Amari spat.“Well…you better learn to love it. Out of my way, pipsqueak,” Sharon sassed, shoving Amari to the side. Amari wobbled on her feet and regained her balance. She followed Sharon all the way to the living room where Alexander sprawled on the couch watching football.“Alpha Alexander, I request a presence with you,” Sharon demanded.“Your presence is denied,” he drawled, not taking his eyes off the enormous television that almost spanned the entire room.“I beg you to reconsider.

Amari woke to the unwelcoming feel of an arm wrapped around her waist. Titania was practically purring in delight, but Amari was not amused. She struggled to remove herself from Alexander’s grasp, but the more she tried to wrestle herself out, the tighter his hold became like a boa constrictor. She tapped his arm several times until he growled for her to stop.“I need to leave.”“You’re not going anywhere,” he mumbled.“Are you trying to punish me?”“What are you talking about?”“You obviously hate me, and I can’t say that I’m very fond of you. Why are you insisting on keeping me here?”“Amari, shut up. You just tried to leave last night and were almost murdered. Good thing I sent my beta to watch over you because clearly you cannot care for yourself.”“Well, it sure as hell is not your responsibility to care for me. I’m leaving for the Black Crescent Pack today with an escort,” she said, making Alexander laugh. “What’s funny?”“It’s the fact that you believe you can tell me what to d
