**Present**

“You just don’t know when to stop, do you?” Sam growled, painfully grabbing Amari’s jaw.

“He’s right,” I whispered.

“Who?” Sam asked curiously.

“The guy earlier, when he said you would make an awful Alpha.  You will live the rest of your life submitting your neck to someone, and that someone will be me.”

“Is that so?” he grinned evilly.

“I didn’t stutter,” Amari sassed back.  She doubled over once Sam landed a punch to her gut.  She barely recovered when he grabbed a fistful of her curls and snatched her head up.

“Listen to me, bitch.  You are a nobody.  The world doesn’t even know you exist.  Your disappearance will not be noticed.  I am excited to spend my evening causing you as much pain and misery as possible.  This is a much better way to spend the night than attending a party.  Thank you for that, Amari,” he said with a wink.

“Anytime,” she chuckled, earning another punch.  She winced when she felt Sam’s fingers tighten in her curls.  He yanked her head back and forced her eyes to meet his.  “You know?  You’re not half bad looking.  Maybe I’ll keep you around for myself for a little while.  At least until I find my mate, and then I’ll toss you aside like the trash you are,” Sam threatened.

Amari’s eyes screwed shut when he roughly pressed his lips against hers.  She panicked.  She had never been kissed before and would have hoped her first kiss would be with her mate.  The forced kiss became aggressive, and the more she squirmed, the tighter his hold became.  Amari felt his tongue prodding at the seam of her lips, attempting to gain access to her mouth.  She parted her lips slightly, only to bite his bottom lip.

Sam let out a muffled cry as Amari attempted to bite through his bottom lip.  His hands wrapped around her neck, and unfortunately, Amari was forced to release him once she couldn’t breathe any longer.

“Shit!” he yelled once he was released.  He could not believe the bitch.  The audacity of her, after he considered giving her a chance to be his.  She should be so lucky!  He thought to himself.

The next thing Amari knew, she was dragged into a large silver cage in the middle of the dungeon.

“Strap her down,” Sam instructed the other guards.

Amari kicked and screamed as she was forced down into the chair with silver restraints.  They wrapped a thick, silver chain around her neck and chest, and her wrists were strapped into silver cuffs on the arm of the chair.

“Gag her!” Sam instructed, tired of hearing Amari’s scream.  She was giving him a headache.

Amari’s heart rate began to pick up once the gag was placed in her mouth, preventing her from screaming for help.  She prayed that maybe if she screamed loud enough that Alpha Beaumont might hear and have mercy on her.

Her eyes widened once another guard wheeled in a tray filled with tools and syringes.  Sam chuckled once he noticed how wide Amari’s eyes went and how she shivered in the chair once she saw the tray.  Sam wondered what thoughts ran through her mind. He would enjoy his time with her.

“Do you know what this is, Amari?” Sam casually asked, holding up a vial.  She could not respond due to the gag and refused to acknowledge him.  “It’s liquid silver.”  Amari’s spine straightened, but she refused to give him the satisfaction of continuing to cry.  She had Alpha blood in her and could not show weakness.

Amari’s eyes followed Sam’s every movement as he inserted a syringe into the vial.  He gently pulled the plunger on the syringe back, filling it with the cool silver that would bring any werewolf to their knees.  He whistled as he completed this process five more times.

“You ready?” he asked with a cheerful grin on his face.  “Doesn’t matter.  I’m ready.”

Sam grabbed the pinky finger on Amari’s left hand and jabbed the needle of the syringe underneath Amari’s fingertip.  That was enough to make Amari cry out in pain.  Silver heat coursed from Amari’s finger and up her arm to her shoulder.

Sam tossed the empty syringe onto the tray and laughed at the flood of tears from Amari.  He continued the process.  Her eyes rolled to the back of her head once he was done with her middle finger.  Sweat dripped down her face, and her pulse in her neck was visible to the naked eye.  He watched it pound away from the adrenaline and silver that rushed through her.

By the time Sam reached her thumb, Amari felt she was barely holding onto dear life.  Her eyes fluttered open and shut, and her drool soaked the gag and dripped down her chin.  At one point, she passed out again from the searing pain.

“AAAAAHHHHHHH!” Amari screamed once she felt her fingers being crushed.  Sam was hammering away at her hand like a madman.  With each drop of the hammer, she could feel the bones in her hand fracture.

Amari would not be able to heal due to the silver injected into her hand.  She would be left with a mangled hand for the rest of her life.

It was then she knew she would die in the dungeon.  Her life ended before it could even begin.  She was at least grateful she was able to experience the beauty and wonders of the outside even if it was only for a moment.  Even though Amari was suffering because of her mate, she did not wish ill on him.  If anything, she wished him well.  She hoped life would be kind to him, and maybe he would be able to find someone in the future who would love him to the moon and back.  One thing Amari knew without a shadow of a doubt was that she loved her mate, and she prayed he came to his senses before it was too late for her.

“You must get rid of her,” Darren demanded.“I can’t do that,” Zane sighed, focusing his attention on the mountain of paperwork he needed to complete.“Why not?” Darren growled.“Whether you or anyone else likes it or not, Amari is a part of our pack now.”“She is not a part of our pack! She is an outsider! You saw what happened when you allowed outsiders in, and you’re about to make the same mistake twice.”“I appreciate your concern; however, I’m the Alpha, and you’re not. Let me do my job. If you cared so much about this pack then you wouldn’t have taken off and dumped your responsibilities on me,” Zane snarled.“That’s fucked up, and you know it. Try losing your mate first and then come back and say that to me!” Darren snapped.“I’m sorry,” Zane whispered. “I-I didn’t mean it. I’m just so…stressed. I feel like I have the entire world on my shoulder, and it becomes more apparent each day that passes that I’m not fit for this job.”“Don’t say that…you’re doing fine.”“Fine i

  • The Accused Mate   Darren Steele

“Good morning, Amari. How are you feeling?” Susan asked cautiously.“I’m doing okay. Are you okay?” Amari hesitantly asked, noticing how nervous Susan seemed. “I’m fine. Why do you ask?”“It’s because you look like you’re about to give me terrible news.”“Right…um, as you know, Alpha Zane’s older brother, Darren Steele, will arrive in a few hours. Believe me when I tell you I tried to switch your duties with another maid, but no one was willing to budge, and Alpha Zane expressed he had more important matters to attend.“I’ve heard from the other maids that Darren and his friends can be…hostile towards the staff. It can’t be any worse than what I get now.”“I don’t know how to put this into words, but Darren may have a certain special appeal to you.”“What do you mean?” Amari asked, furrowing her eyebrows in confusion. “Story time; follow me to the gardens.”Susan was not one for gossip, but she felt it was her responsibility to prepare Amari and ensure she had all the facts. “I have a bone to pick with you, Susan!”“What’s the matter, sweetie?” Susan drawled, patting her bratty younger sister on the head. Susan bit back her laughter when Sunny aggressively slapped her hand away. “Why did you stick me with training this-this-this cripple!” Sunny spat, causing Susan to gasp.“Sunny! You should be ashamed of yourself! Don’t speak about Amari like that!”“Why? I’m only saying what everyone is thinking! She can’t keep up, and she’s making my already difficult job harder for me!”“Keep your voice down!” Susan warned.“Why? I don’t care if she can hear me. I’ll tell her to her face!”Amari rolled her eyes and continued to clean the window as she listened to Sunny bash her from the other room. Amari knew she was not as fast at her tasks as the other wolves, but in her opinion, she was doing well despite her injuries. Two maids who bullied Amari, along with Sunny, decided it would be funny to kick over the mop bucket filled with dirty water. Amari held bac

“So, are you going to tell me how this happened, or should I guess?” Dr. Patrick asked. Amari refused to answer and continued to blankly stare at the wall as she replayed her last 24 hours in her mind. “Okay…let’s see…slammed in a door?”She shook her head.“Not a door. Okay…ran over by an 18-wheeler?”She shook her head again and bit her bottom lip to keep from smiling.“No 18-wheeler. I know what happened.”She curiously tilted her head to the side and patiently waited for Dr. Patrick’s more than likely wrong guess. “You dropped your ring down the garbage disposal, reached in, and the rest was history.”That made Amari laugh despite being in so much pain. She hoped no one had suffered such misery, but had a feeling this had happened to someone before. “No,” she finally spoke. “I was tortured for a crime I didn’t commit.”“I’m sorry to hear that, Amari. I know what they say about assuming, but your wounds appear to be fresh. Were you injected with silver?”“Y-yes.”“That’s

  • The Accused Mate   Welcome to Your New Home

Zane was surprised when Amari was released from the chains that she stuck to her word. She did not fuss, fight, or attempt to run away. Amari had resigned to her fate. “Let’s go,” Zane ordered, offering Amari a clear path to lead the way out of the office. She had only taken a few steps when Alpha Winters attacked Amari, yanking her in the air by her throat. “Put her down,” Zane growled. “She is my daughter, I can discipline her however I see fit,” he snapped back.“She is no longer your daughter, but my property. Put her down or face the consequences,” Zane warned lowly. He was only bluffing. His pack was in such disarray and vulnerable to attacks that he could not afford to go to war right now. Especially over a woman who was not his mate. Alpha Winters delivered one final squeeze to Amari’s windpipe before dropping her to the polished hardwood floors. Amari shrieked when she accidentally used her destroyed left hand to break her fall out of habit. Zane rolled his eyes,

  • The Accused Mate   Alpha Zane Steele

“Alpha Steele, Alpha Winters is on the line,” Zane’s beta announced, entering his posh office. “I am unavailable to take his call,” Zane replied gruffly.“I think you’re going to want to take this call,” Beta Paul urged.“Why would I make time for our enemy? Unless he’s officially waging war, then I don’t want anything to do with him.”“He says he has a peace offering.”“Which is?”“His daughter.”“Is this some sort of a joke?” Zane growled, throwing his pen on the desk. “Camilla Winters is dead.”“Camilla Winters is confirmed deceased, but Alpha Winters is claiming to have another daughter that he wishes to bargain.”“Give me the phone,” Zane eagerly replied, snatching the phone out of Paul’s grasp. Zane motioned for Paul to leave with his hand. “This is Alpha Steele. I heard you might have something for me?”“As you may have heard, my daughter, Camilla Winters, was brutally murdered, and my daughter, Amari Winters, is suspected of hiring an assassin to get rid of her.”“When d
