Chapter 3

Myosotis
The name hung in the air like a ghost. No one had spoken it in ten years.

Elias Voss. The fifth heir. My true fated mate.

Ten years ago, his mother had died of a mysterious illness.

A seer had claimed that her spirit had cursed the pack, and that Elias must be sent to the remote, secluded mountain wolf retreat to atone for her sins. He had been twelve years old.

No one had seen him since.

No one but me.

In my last life, I had never met him until the day I died.

He had descended from the mountains, his robes soaked in blood, his wolf form still half-shifted, and had torn through half the pack to avenge me.

He had held my burning body in his arms, and I had felt his tears fall on my skin—hot, and alive, and full of a love I had never known.

He had been the only one who had ever cared.

I left the fortress at dawn.

The snow was deep, and the wind howled through the mountains, but I didn’t feel the cold. I walked for hours, until I reached the hermitage, hidden in a valley surrounded by pine trees.

I pushed open the door of the small cottage.

A tall figure stood by the window, his back to me. He was wearing a simple gray robe, his hair long and black, tied back with a leather cord.

It was Elias Voss.

He didn’t turn around.

“I knew you would come,” he said.

His voice was deep and rough from disuse, but it sent a shiver down my spine. “I’ve been waiting for you.”

Tears blurred my vision. I had dreamed of this moment a hundred times.

“I’m here,” I said, my voice breaking. “Mate me.”

He froze.

He turned around.

His eyes were silver. The same silver as the moonstone. The same silver as my eyes.

He looked at me, and I could see everything in his gaze.

The loneliness of ten years in the mountains. The pain of losing his mother. The love he had carried for me, all this time, without ever meeting me.

He reached out and brushed a strand of hair from my face. His hand was warm, and calloused from years of work.

“Yes,” he said.

I smiled through my tears.

We walked back to the fortress together.

The sun was setting, painting the sky in shades of orange and pink. Elias walked beside me, silent but steady, his hand brushing mine every few steps.

As we entered the courtyard, we ran into Kael.

He was leaning against a stone wall, waiting for me. Lila was nowhere to be seen.

When he saw Elias, his eyes narrowed.

“What is he doing here?” he sneered. “Did you drag him down from his mountain to make me jealous? It won’t work, Nova.”

“I’m not trying to make you jealous,” I said flatly. “I’m mating him.”

Kael laughed. A loud, mocking laugh.

“Mating him? A hermit who hasn’t seen another wolf in ten years? You’re pathetic. You’d rather mate a nobody than admit you still love me.”

He stepped closer, his voice dropping to a low, threatening growl.

“Listen to me, Nova. You will mate me. You will be my lesser mate. And you will serve Lila. If you don’t, I will make you regret it. I will destroy everything you love.”

I remembered the silver chains. The burning pain. The way he had laughed as I screamed.

I stepped back, and Elias moved in front of me, shielding me from Kael.

“Touch her,” Elias said, his voice cold as ice, “and I will kill you.”

Kael’s eyes widened. No one had ever dared speak to him like that.

He bared his fangs. “You dare threaten me? I am the future Alpha!”

“No,” Elias said. “You are not.”

Kael stood there, frozen in shock. He looked at the silver moonstone, then at Elias, then at me. His face twisted with rage."You did this!" he screamed, pointing at me. "You manipulated the Goddess! You cheated!""I did no such thing," I said. "The Goddess sees everything. She saw what you did to me. She saw the darkness in your heart. And she saw the goodness in Elias's."I turned back to the moonstone. "Goddess," I said, "we ask you one more thing. Show us the prophecy about Lila Songbird."The moonstone's silver light shifted. Images began to play across its surface, clear and vivid. The entire pack watched in silence as the truth was revealed. They saw Lila meeting with the assassins in the woods. They saw her paying them with gold, telling them to kill me. They saw the assassins sneaking into the fortress in the middle of the night. They saw them killing Lila. The hall fell silent. Over the next two weeks, Kael did everything he could to make my life and Elias's life miserable. He refused to acknowledge Elias as the future Alpha, calling him a "useless hermit" and a "mountain rat" whenever they crossed paths. He refused to attend any pack meetings, refused to follow any orders, and spent his days wandering the fortress, drinking and muttering to himself about the past life.He began to tell anyone who would listen that he was the rightful Alpha, that I had cursed the moonstone to make Elias Alpha. Some of the younger warriors, who had always seen him as a great leader, believed him. They began to follow him around, whispering about rebellion and overthrowing Elias.I tried to ignore him. I focused on my duties as the Seer, on helping Elias learn how to lead the pack. But Kael's constant harassment was wearing on me. Every time I turned around, he was there, staring at me with those golden eyes filled with hatred and obsession. One day, I was walking through

I said nothing. I just stared at Kael, my eyes cold and empty. But inside, memories of the last life were flooding my mind, sharp and painful.I remembered the day Jax died. He had been ambushed by the Jackal Clans while on patrol. Kael had been the one to find him, lying in a pool of his own blood."Take care of Lila," Jax had whispered, gripping Kael's hand so tight his knuckles turned white. "Promise me you'll protect her. Promise me she'll always be safe.""I promise," Kael had said, his voice breaking.Jax had smiled, then closed his eyes and died. From that day on, Kael had dedicated himself to keeping his promise. He had given Lila a home in the fortress, protected her from anyone who tried to hurt her, and gave her everything she asked for. But Lila had not been content with just protection. She had wanted more. She had wanted Kael. She had wanted to be Luna. And she had seen me as her biggest obstacle.I remembered the vision I had had three days before Lila's death: a vi

The bonding feast was held the next evening in the great hall of the fortress. The hall was decorated with silver garlands and moonblooms. The pack was celebrating my bond with Elias, and the air was filled with laughter and music.I sat beside Elias on the dais, a deep blue Luna gown embroidered with silver moon phases and wolf paw prints. For a while, I managed to forget about Kael and everything that had happened. But as the night wore on, I couldn't shake the feeling that something was going to happen. I was right.Just as the feast was reaching its peak, the great oak doors of the hall crashed open. Everyone fell silent.Kael stood in the doorway, his clothes still damp from the snow, his hair matted and wild. His eyes were bloodshot, and he reeked of mead. He had clearly been drinking all day.He staggered into the hall, ignoring the stares of the pack, and made his way straight to the bar. He grabbed a full tan

I stood on the fortress battlements, watching Kael kneel alone in the knee-deep snow below. He had been there for eight hours straight, ever since our procession had passed him by. His black cloak was crusted with ice."NOVA!" he screamed again, his voice raw and broken, barely audible over the howling wind. "YOU SAID YOU LOVED ME! YOU SAID YOU WOULD ALWAYS LOVE ME!"I could see the pack members lingering at the edge of the courtyard, watching him with a mix of pity and fear. They had never seen the proud, arrogant heir like this. Whispers spread through the crowd like wildfire."He's lost his mind," someone muttered. "The Goddess has cursed him for defying her will."My father and stepmother stood a short distance away, their faces heavy with disappointment. My father's jaw was tight, his fists clenched at his sides. Elara's eyes were red with tears, her hands trembling. They had tried everything to get him to come inside, but he had refused to move. Finally, my father let out a
