Chapter 4

Author: Peachy
"Mommy, we're hungry."

Three babies looked up at me with clear eyes, their voices as soft and sweet as candy.

But the scene was just too bizarre.

Three minutes ago, they were wolf pups.

"How... how did you turn human?"

"It's easy," one of the little ones said, tilting his head. "We just think it, and it happens."

As he spoke, he flickered back into a furry little wolf, then back into a human baby.

"See!"

My entire worldview shattered.

Over the next few days, I discovered that not only could these three change shape at will, but they also grew at an alarming rate.

On day one, they looked like newborns. By day three, they could speak clearly. By day five, they could run and jump.

And they ate a terrifying amount of food.

"Mommy, is there more meat?" The oldest—I named him Leo—looked at me with hopeful eyes.

I stared at the empty plate. It was his fifth serving of beef.

"That's all there is," I said helplessly. "This is the ration the kitchen gives the servants."

Leo's little brow furrowed. He exchanged a look with his two brothers.

"Mommy always goes hungry to feed us," said the middle one, Max.

"Not fair," the youngest, Felix, nodded. "Mommy needs to eat meat too."

"I'm not hungry," I lied. The truth was, I hadn't had a proper meal in three days.

That night, I went to bed early.

In the middle of the night, a soft noise woke me up.

The cardboard box beside my bed was empty.

"Leo? Max? Felix?" I called out softly. No answer.

Panic seized me. Where did they go?

What I didn't know was that they were in the main house's kitchen.

Three little wolf pups were carrying out the perfect food heist.

Leo used his small claws to hook the refrigerator door open. Max stood watch. Felix slipped inside to find the best cuts.

"This one!" Felix dragged out a huge slab of wagyu steak. "For Mommy!"

Leo nodded and grabbed the steak in his teeth.

But just then, he saw an ornate box on the kitchen island.

The box was ajar. Inside lay an ancient ring.

It was unique—a platinum band holding a blood-red gem with fire burning deep inside.

Most importantly, it gave off a scent. A scent that was deeply comforting. It smelled like Dad.

Leo dropped the steak and gently picked up the ring.

"Brother, we can't take that," Max warned.

"But it smells good," Leo said. "And... it's calling to me."

Felix trotted over. "It does smell good. Like home."

The three pups looked at each other, and decided to take the ring back with them.

...

"Where have you been?!"

I was both panicked and furious when the three pups returned, dragging food.

"We got food for Mommy," Leo said proudly, dropping the steak.

"And this!" Felix presented the ring like a trophy.

My blood ran cold.

I’d seen that ring before. Killian was wearing it when I signed the contract.

He never took it off. It was said to have a special meaning.

"Where did you steal this from?!"

"The kitchen," Max said, blinking innocently. "It smelled nice. We thought Mommy would like it."

Just then, a piercing alarm blared to life.

The entire estate was flooded with flashing red lights.

"Intruder alert!" a bodyguard's voice boomed over the speakers. "Lock down all exits!"

I snatched the ring, my fingers trembling so hard I could barely hold it.

Footsteps.

Dozens of them. All heading straight for my room.

"Quick!" I shoved the three kids into the closet. "Turn human! And don't make a sound!"

The footsteps got closer.

Someone was sniffing.

"The scent trail ends here," a guard said.

"Impossible," another voice replied. "Keep searching."

And then I heard the voice that made the air freeze.

"The thief is near. I can smell my ring."

Killian.

He was here.

BOOM!

The door didn't open. It exploded inward. Splinters of wood rained down like shrapnel.

Killian’s towering frame filled the doorway, six heavily armed bodyguards behind him.

His gray eyes glinted dangerously in the dark. His gaze swept the room and landed on me.

"The thief is in here."

Blinding white light. The smell of antiseptic.I slowly opened my eyes and found myself in a hospital room.My chest was wrapped in thick bandages, but strangely, it didn't hurt much.I turned to look out the window. The moon was high in the night sky.And then I saw it.A massive silver wolf was lying on the chair next to my bed.It was twice the size of a normal wolf, its silver fur shimmering in the moonlight. Most shockingly, its eyes were grey. The exact same grey as Killian's.I screamed, scrambling backward. "Wolf! There's a wolf in my room!"I frantically grabbed a pillow and threw it at the creature."Help! Is anyone there?!"The wolf didn't dodge. It let the pillow bounce off its head. Then, it did something that made me freeze. It spoke."Chloe, calm down." The familiar deep voice came from the wolf's mouth. "It's me.""No way!" I grabbed another pillow. "Wolves can't talk! What kind of monster are you?!"The wolf sighed and caught the second pillow easily with one of its pa

A triumphant smile spread across Julian's face."Any last words, brother?" He shook his head in mock sadness. "Such a shame. The great Alpha of the Blackwood family, brought down by a human woman."The officer's handcuffs hovered over Killian's wrists.Everyone held their breath, waiting for this historic moment. But then, Killian laughed. It was a cold, unsettling laugh."Julian, do you really think you've won?""Of course," Julian said, smug. "The evidence is undeniable. What more can you say?""Evidence?" Killian pulled a recording device from his pocket. "You mean, this evidence?"He pressed play.Julian's voice filled the room, crisp and clear:"Once Killian is gone, the Alpha position is mine.""The human hunter organization is offering a good price. A million for each werewolf pup.""We have to ruin Killian's reputation completely. It would be best if he disappeared without a trace."The crowd gasped. The color drained from Julian's face."That's... that's a fake!" he shrieked.

"Do you see now?" Tiffany's voice echoed through the ballroom. "This wasn't some simple surrogacy! This was a carefully planned conspiracy!"She pointed at the three children in the cage, her voice rising to a hysterical shriek."She is a spy! A human sent here for one reason: to pollute our sacred bloodline!"The crowd of socialites began to whisper."A human spy?""How is that possible?""If it's true...""Killian, you have to execute this woman immediately!" Tiffany continued to incite the crowd. "She has defiled our pure werewolf blood! According to ancient law, she and these abominations must die!""No!" I couldn't take it anymore and collapsed to my knees. "I'm not a spy!"Tears streamed down my face like a flood."The children are mine, yes, but I'm not a spy! I'm just a normal person who joined a surrogacy program to pay off my debts!""Please, spare them!" I sobbed, sinking to my knees. "The children are innocent! They know nothing! If someone must die, let it be me!"In the c

Chloe's POVWarm sunlight streamed through a massive window, waking me.I slowly opened my eyes and found myself in an unbelievably luxurious bed. This wasn't the servant's quarters. The room was as big as a small palace. Crystal chandeliers, silk curtains, hand-woven Persian rugs—everything looked priceless."You're awake."A deep voice came from beside me.I turned and saw Killian sitting in a chair by the bed, holding medical supplies."Where am I?" I tried to sit up, but a sharp pain shot through my back."My room." He gently pressed on my shoulder. "Don't move. I need to change your dressing."His room?"I can't stay here," I said nervously. "I'm just a servant...""Not anymore."His touch was surprisingly gentle as he carefully cleaned the wound on my back."You live here now."I could feel the warmth from his body, and that scent that made me feel so safe."The babies?" I suddenly remembered my pups."Playing on the balcony," Killian said as he applied ointment to my back. "They

Killian's POVThe second I saw her, covered in blood, something inside me snapped.Pure, primal rage flooded my veins. It's the Alpha's instinct. A killing urge that surfaces when someone harms what is mine.My eyes fell on the three trembling pups. Those eyes. That scent. My bloodline. My children. They were born in their wolf forms—a rarity bordering on myth. But the call of blood does not lie. These little ones carried the purest Alpha blood of the Blackwood line."Killian!" Tiffany stared at me in terror, trying to hide her claws. "Let me explain, these mutts attacked me, and this woman—"I didn't give her the chance to finish. In a blur of motion, my hand was around her throat, choking the air from her lungs."Explain?" My voice was a death rattle. "You think I need an explanation from you?""Killian... let... let me go..." Tiffany clawed at my hand, her face turning purple."You hurt her." My fingers tightened. "You hurt what is mine.""She's just... just a servant..."SLAM!I th

BANG! BANG! BANG!The sharp knocking shattered the morning quiet.I huddled in the corner of the bed, clutching my three pups, my heart pounding."Open up! Animal Control, routine inspection!"Tiffany's voice came from outside the door, but it sounded formal and cold."We received a report of unvaccinated stray animals on the premises, posing a safety risk."I gritted my teeth. I knew she wouldn't give up."There are no strays here!" I shouted through the door. "Only Mr. Killian's personal pets!""That's exactly why we need to check their vaccination records," Tiffany replied in a fake, official tone. "Please cooperate with law enforcement."The door was shoved open.Tiffany strode in first.Behind her were four uniformed workers holding catch poles and shock prods."Those are the three," she said, pointing at the pups in my arms. "They look malnourished and have no tags. They could be carrying rabies.""No! They're perfectly healthy!" I hugged the little ones for dear life. "And Mr. K
