Maya's POV.

“A joke?” The alpha got in front of me on our way out of his living room.

“A joke? Is that seriously all you have to say?”

I swallowed hard, greasing my parched throat for the rest of the words to come.

“Yes.”

“Why?”

‘Tell him it's because you have trust issues.’ Melissa whispered in my thoughts. ‘Tell him it's because you were rejected before.’

I moved my lips to speak but the words rolled to the back of my throat.

“Speak!” Alpha William grew impatient.

“The seer says we were destined for each other. Do you really believe in that nonsense?”

“Nonsense?” He raised an eyebrow. “You call that nonsense?”

My stomach sank. My words weren't intended to be as deep as he was taking them.

“No one was made for another. Werewolves don't have soulmates.” I answered.

“The seer is trying to fool us.”

Alpha William looked at me one last time before he nodded and walked away.

I watched as he continued, not a single glance at me until he was at his door, then, with a sharp pull at his doorknob, William walked in and banged his door in my face, it's frame reverberating through the entire building.

I felt a strong pull in my wolf. Melissa was disappointed at me, pissed that I had said that to my mate.

“Why?” She questioned.

“I'm saving us.”

“Saving us from what?” She cried. “William has been so good to you and you know he's a good man. How could you even say that?”

Perhaps she was too excited to remember, or maybe she had truly forgotten, but I didn't. I still recalled the pain of Alpha Thomas’ rejection and how terribly it stung.

The Alpha king rejecting me again would shatter me, I knew that for sure, and that was why I needed confirmation before I allowed my heart to love him.

“We need time.” I told Melissa. My wolf still stirred, her anger still present, but there was nothing she could do.

“Tone it down girl,” I told her. “If it's meant to be, it will be.”

Looking back at that moment, I wish I hadn't said that to the alpha.

He changed from that second.

*****

“Alpha Williams.” I greeted.

The alpha had his eyes glued to his phone, his mind distant from the present as he walked right past me.

“Alpha.” I called again, my voice holding more depth this time.

Still, he didn't say a word. Didn't acknowledge my greeting.

“Alpha!” I closed the distance between us.

“Alpha! Can you hear me?”

It wasn't until I poked the Alpha by his side that he lifted his eyes from his phone and glanced at me.

A glance so quick, I almost missed it.

“Yeah. Good morning.” And then he continued with his way.

I stood there, baffled by his abrupt answer. Alpha Williams was never this way with me.

“It's all your fault you know.” Melissa’s whisper intruded again. “God apologize to him for what you said. Tell him you didn't mean it.”

“But it's not like I said something insulting.”

“No. But it wasn't a compliment either. You must have shrunk his pride. You need to apologize. Go talk to him before it gets worse.”

I blinked away her words, shrugging slightly as I swirled to my direction too. The walls of my stomach cramped up with guilt but on the surface, I acted freer than a kite.

“You might regret this, Maya.”

“I won't.”

***

Crack!

A spoon from a maid’s hand tumbled off the dinning table and crashed into the tiled floor, spilling food on the alpha's pants.

“I'm so sorry.” She stammering while her knees kissed the floor, wipe in her hand fastly trying to take the stain out.

The Alpha glanced at me at the other end of the dinning table for a moment before he tilted his head to her.

“Its fine. Clear the table, I will not eat anymore.”

“He's really mad at you. Apologize now before it gets too late.” Melissa reminded me.

My voice dropped with sob tears from the maid and then the screech from the alpha's chair as he adjusted it backwards and walked out on us.

“You fool!” Melissa screamed, “Apologize now or you're going to make things very bad for us.”

“I remember the seer saying you could walk through fire.” I mocked her, “I don't remember her saying anything about you seeing visions, besides I didn't do anything wrong.”

I continued with the meal served for the night, sipping my soup gently with the piece of bread in hand.

The rest of my dinner was spent with Melissa yelling at me to go apologize to the alpha, but my behind was glued to the chair.

If anything, he was supposed to be the one apologizing to me.

What did I do?

******

The day that followed was a quiet one. The birds didn't chirp at sunrise like they always did. The sun didn't filter into my eyes and the cocks didn't crow that loudly.

The day started off quiet and was that way until mid noon, then the commotion started.

From the balcony of my room, I watched as maids rushed in and out of the mansion with items.

Beddings, new pillows, brooms, toilet cleaners, perfume and even new sets of curtains.

One maid told me it was for the Alpha's new guest that was arriving, when I called her to the side for chitchat.

“Any idea who it is?”

She swung her head slowly, hiding just beside the flower bush that shielded both of us enough to talk.

“But she's someone important.”

“She?”

Melissa stirred again. “This isn't funny, Maya. Go apologize to the Alpha now.”

Her words watered down when the maid kept talking.

“The guards say she will be coming into today by early evening and we're asked to clean the alpha's room for her.”

His room?

I felt a sting to my stomach as the realization of what that meant sank in. They were sharing a room.

“What's her name?” I leaned in closer, my eyes wide with curiosity, my throat dry and my hands feverish.

It could be his sister for all I knew.

But on second thought, the Alpha had no sisters.

So who?

Alpha Williams' POVI was good as new when I sat down for rest but movement was form of torture worse than fierce battle. My head shot back, holding in tears, screams and moans as a maid dug her fingers in-between my veins and bones, massaging the clogged muscles.“Alpha, does it hurt?” She questioned when my legs shook involuntarily.I suppressed the daggers in my eyes, “Just… a little.”“Apologies. It has to be done.” She coiled her fingers into the balm next to her. “I'm… almost done.”Her hands returned to my legs, ice cold and squishy as she smeared the balm over me. I pressed my eyes tight, my lips tied together as my head shot back over the chair. The pain coming stung inside my brain.“Just a couple more.”“Here and there.”“Alright, we're done.” Her tiny fingers slid off me, wiping gently across the rag beside her. “You'll feel swollen for a bit then after a while, you'll be better.”“Thank you.” I sat straight, “I appreciate this.”“You're welcome. It's so good to have you

Maya's POV“We’ve been circling that tree for the last one hour. Where the heck are we?”The forest didn't feel so empty with Melissa back. I shifted a couple of times just to be sure. She was.But with her renewed energy came more focus on me— on the path we took.“I've tried walking in this direction.” I pointed to the dense part of the forest, the darkness thicker than a fog. “This is harder than I thought it would be.”“We should try running on trees.”“Good idea.”Melissa took over quickly, in one moment, I was fully wolf, she sprang up onto the tree next to us, latching with her claws that buried deep into the trunk.“See anything?”“Nothing yet.”“Try harder.”Melissa sniffed the air for any sign of life, nothing. She skipped a few trees in the direction of the darkness, the deeper we got, the more confusion flickered inside us. With a low growl, Melissa gave up. She shifted back to me, lowering to the floor.“I give up.”“That was fast.” “Yeah. I can't take it anymore. You do

Alpha Williams’ POVThe first thing I felt when I woke was the weight of the world pressing against my chest… not pain, not confusion… just awareness.Air filled my lungs like it hadn’t in years. My breath was fresh enough to ice.My fingers twitched before I even knew I could move them. The room was bright but then my eyesight returned fully and it dimmed. My nose twitched next, the smell of herbs roamed in the air. My wolf whispered my name.“Balor.” I gasped in disbelief, this time the words echoed sound. “You're back!”“Thank goodness.” His cocky attitude was back too. “What's that?”Herbs. The smell of herbs pressed a chokehold on me. My insides tickled, I sneezed gently. “It's herbs. The ones that didn't kill me while I was asleep, they want to kill me now.”I sat up slowly, testing every joint, every nerve. My legs felt heavy but they worked ... by the goddess, they worked. Before I could process it, the door burst open.“Alpha!” Justin’s voice thundered, echoing through the wa

Sarah's POV“Why did you need her to stop over?”Logan’s rumbling over the phone sounded static to me. Nothing he said made sense, bile rose in my throat. I closed my eyes, fighting to suppress the anger building in me.“So you're telling me they are on their way now?” “They should be. I didn't take that long with her.” Logan finally cleared. “Expect the delivery in fifteen.”His assurance came fifteen minutes ago, seated beside Thomas with my eyes fixed on the door, I couldn't help but feel uneasy.“What's wrong?” Thomas reached for my hand. His weight pressed down on my palm, enough for me to stop tapping the armrest so anxiously.“She's not here yet. Something feels wrong.”“You might just be overthinking this thing. Calm down a little.”His words were reassuring when it concerned my health but with with Maya— they held no meaning.“Go out and find her.”“There's no way you want me to go out and find her just because—“I'm serious, go out and find her.” I cut in. Maya's POV.“Make it quick.” The second werewolf told me. “I don't have a minute more to spend here.”I nodded, squeaking over to the blind spot behind the dark tree, crotched over and bent like I was about to pass out urine.“Do it now.”I poked out of the tree. The air was cold, the guards head turned the other way, his eyes fixed on the driver scrolling his phone, their lips moved in a conversation.I swallowed, the bushes behind me looked thick enough to hide me, their leaves rustling, hiding the sounds of my footsteps.“I can do it.” I whispered to myself. Then move!I pushed my clothes back in place, slipped out of my shoes as I picked them up. As slow as a snail, I took my first step.My heartbeat was through the roof. My breath hollowing. My eyes went over my shoulder twice before I took another step. By my fourth breath, I made it in hiding. The bushes were thick enough but too obvious— I needed a plan.My eyes shot at the stream down the way. It flooded into a river down a c

My body stayed still, unmoved even while a war erupted inside me as I fought to move my body.I screamed in my head, “Don't take her! Bring her back! You better leave her alone or I'll kill you!”“Hey! Let her be!” I yelled. “Hey!”“Don't you dare.” I heard Maya fight, I heard scuffling, I heard her gasp, I heard her fighting to be free from them but a whiff in the wind and Maya had stopped fighting. They spoke to her, warning her to stay put or she would regret it.She resisted once more and I never heard from her again. Only the sound of footsteps fading quietly into the hallway as those bastards carted away with my mate.A tear fell from the side of my eye, my pinkie moved as I struggled to get my body to work.“Move it, dammit!
