เข้าสู่ระบบAlpha William’s POV.
“Give it to me straight. What is wrong with her?” I told the seer after I had made the guards take Maya to the next room.
“What did you mean by ‘this is way beyond us’?”The seer, a fragile old woman whose physical appearance had been that way since I'd known her, stared at me straight in the eye before she looked away momentarily.
“Nothing is wrong with her.”
“Okay? So why did you say it is way beyond us.”
She hesitated with an answer. “Her wolf… it's not regular.”
The walls of my stomach tightened, “Is she cursed?”
“No! Far from it. She's not cursed. She is just…just so…”
Her words trailed off before she had the chance to complete them which made my anxiety skyrocket through the roof.
I had no control of my body and had no idea when I grabbed her arm tightly, glaring at her. “Tell me!”With horror reflecting in her eyes, she parted her lips and the words came flowng down.
“Her wolf is the strongest wolf I have ever seen.”Interesting.
My grip on her arm loosened until I had finally let go. “What's so interesting about it?”“In the book of old, ancient tales from the times my forefathers were not yet conceived, werewolves like hers roamed the earth freely. They were called breathers and had the ability to handle fire…”
“Handle fire?” I resounded her words again, my confusion visible on the lines that deepened my forehead.
“Like yesterday?”“Yes. Like yesterday. Her werewolf has supernatural capabilities, alpha.”
My eyelids fluttered more times than I could count, news like this called for a celebration. A werewolf with such power, of great capabilities, was in our midst, we ought to celebrate, I thought.
“No wonder she could defeat the alpha's brother. I remember asking her about it and all she said was that her wolf took over and the last thing she remembered, was her loosing control of her limbs.”
“Her wolf is not just blessed with the ability to walk in and out of fire, though that is it's most distinct feature. It's speed is heightened, it's sense of smell is better than the average beta wolf and it's vision can see the future.”
“Wow.” I marveled in amazement. “That's amazing.”
Without a word note to her, I yelled for the guard who brought Maya in.
She had a look of distraught in her eyes as she walked in on us, obviously annoyed by the incident earlier.“What's this about now? Is she going to perform another test?” There was spite in her voice.
“Is she going to perform more test?"“Have a seat.” I pointed to the chair beside me. “No more test. The seer has something to say to you. Something you might find interesting.”
Reluctantly, Maya took the seat beside me. She slouched down with her shoulders laid back and her gaze neutral.
“Okay. What is it?”The elderly woman continued.
“Your wolf is the strongest of the werewolves to ever walk the face of the earth. Second to the alpha King's Wolf.”Her eyes lit gently, curiosity in this.
“Really? But I got my wolf late. I was 23 when I got my wolf.”“It doesn't matter. Your wolf is the strongest wolf there is and that is why you haven't been able to get a mate.”
My gaze moved to the seer once she mentioned a mate as my curiosity piqued.
“And that goes for the alpha also.” She continued.
“What do you mean?”
“I mean that you have not been able to find a mate because your mate is the alpha.”
Realization dawned on me and Maya at the same time. We exchanged glances for a little while, my stomach wall cramped tightly again, the walls of my throat parched dry.
I had my speculation, believing there was something strange about the girl, but never in a million years did I think she was the one who completed me.
“But I…I had a mate. One the moon goddess recognized and named as mine. Alpha Thomas, my wolf, called for his wolf when she saw him. He is my mate.”
“Your wolf called for comfort, not her mate. And besides, she mirrors what you believe is your reality. At that time, the alpha seemed like the best option to you and so she went your way. But believe me, the alpha is not your mate. He is not strong enough.”
I sat closer to the seer. “And what are you trying to say to me?”
The seer's attention shifted from Maya to myself. “Every one thousand years, a wolf like Maya's is created and so is a werewolf like yours. In the days of old, strong and powerful werewolves were meant to be together but humans and lesser werewolves came together to plead for powerful werewolves not to be mated together so their powers would not be out of hand.”“That's bad.”
“Yes, at birth, powerful werewolves are meant to be separated but if they do manage to find their other halves, they can stay together in love as long as they do not get out of hand.”
“And if they have other mates when they find their other halves..” I eyed Maya. That was meant to be her question.
“Their relationships with others would never go far unless they come together. They are meant for each other, inseparable. If they stay with others they will be miserable.”
“And so in other words, alpha William here, the alpha king is my mate forever and always?”
“Yes.”
Maya's expression didn't look as stern as she did when he entered the room. Her mood has greatly improved. I caught her lips move, a smile was forming, I could almost bet and then halfway through, she stopped, glanced at the seer and then me.
A tensed moment.
My heart beat blocked the sound of everything else. Could she hear it?
And then, “This must be a joke, alpha William. Let's go to bed, it's late already.”
My heart crumbled in shock.
A joke?Maya’s Pov.Even I was curious to know who it was but the door slammed behind him, the echo still trembling through the walls long after Alpha Williams had gone.I sat there on the edge of the bed, still half breathless from our kiss, staring at the empty doorway, wondering what was going on.His scent—earth and smoke—hung heavy in the room. It always lingered after he left, like his presence refused to fade. That was my cue.*Follow him. He could be in danger.*Outside, voices rose—men shouting, the clanging of metal, the growl of wolves. Seeing this, my pulse quickened. What now?I wrapped a cloak around myself and followed the sound. The outside was alive with noise from chaos—guards shifting, weapons drawn. Williams stood at the center, his broad frame was rigid, eyes dark and facing him was a man I thought we were done with.Logan.His freaking brother. His hair was matted with dust and sweat, his eyes burning with fury and heartbreak. I got closer and noticed that every muscl
Alpha Williams POV.The night was burning with the smell of blood and mud after I finished beating the hell out of Thomas. All around me, the forest was a graveyard of broken bodies and trampled earth. The cries of dying men faded into the distance, replaced by the deep growls of wolves retreating.Thomas lay in the dirt before me, coughing, blood streaming from his mouth. He tried to crawl away, but I caught his leg and dragged him back with one hand.“You think you can run from this?” I said, my voice rough and low. “After everything you’ve done?”He groaned, barely able to speak. “Williams… I—”My fist met his jaw before he could finish. The crack echoed. He fell onto his back, gasping. My chest rose and fell like thunder, my breath filled with rage that had been building for years.“You killed my men,” I snarled, striking him again. “You burned villages. You made my mate bleed!”He spat blood and laughed weakly. “You would’ve done the same…”That laugh was all it took. I lost wha
Alpha Williams POVThe moon was just coming into the sky when my men returned. They brought good news, but along with the news, mud streaked on my gamma wolf’s face, his breath sharp and ragged, but the fire in his eyes was all I needed to see.“They’re there, Alpha,” he said, bowing low. “Thomas and the woman—Sarah. Camped by the northern riverbank, less than half a mile from the ridge. At least thirty men with them.”I didn’t waste a second. “Sound the call,” I ordered. “We move tonight.”Justin, already armed, caught my gaze across the campfire. No words were needed; he understood what this meant. For days, we’d been chasing ghosts—rumors of Thomas’s movements, scraps of scent trails gone cold. And now, finally, we had them cornered. As my men stirred into motion, I glanced over my shoulder toward the tent for Maya and I.The light inside told me Maya was still awake. She had wanted to come, of course—she always did—but I couldn’t risk it. Not this time. Not when her sister was
Sarah's POV.The plan was not coming as Thomas and I thought it would. There was too much conflict, too much drama and like Thomas pointed, too much ‘nagging.’The moment Thomas stormed out of the tent, silence swallowed everything. The fire blazing outside was the only noise I heard on the entire forest. That and the distance laughter of the maids and guards enjoying their rest.I laid where Thomas left me, staring at the tent’s ceiling, my mind a mess of anger and confusion.Everytime I tried to relax, Thomas' words kept coming back to me.“You're getting on my nerves, do you know that?!”Me?!The same woman he loved. The same one who almost died taking a blow for the both of us was the same one he called a nag.I clenched my jaw until it hurt.My fingers twitched a little, I was tickling to leave a little spell for his surprise but I refrained myself.Instead, I reached for the witches’ ointment and massaged the numbness away. The distraction helped for a while until his words ec
Thomas' POV.The air in our new hideout was heavy– thick with herbs, old wood and the faint scent of blood.A lot of the staff that agreed to follow us were tired, they protested for a little rest or they would turn back. I had no choice. We had to stop for a little. While they got comfortable enough to stretch their legs, Sarah and I set up tent somewhere north. The trees there were still, the bird too quiet. It made me uneasy.I paced back and forth inside the tent while Sarah laid on the bed. Her hair clung to her forehead with sweat. The witches had just finished rubbing some of green mixture on her legs. She groaned when one of the witches pressed too hard but didn't complain. For days, she’d been drifting out and in of that same pain but tonight, her eyes were sharper. “Stop pacing around, Thomas” she rasped, her voice low but commanding. “You're making me dizzy.”I turned to her, sighing. “You think I can sit still when I know they might be out there watching? That they have
Alpha Williams POV.Maya and I hadn't talked since the last encounter and I decided to give her space.I spent the evening in my room alone, resting like the healers and Doctor had said but my mind was far from peace.Eventually, I had a maid call my mate in. Just her presence alone was enough to keep her grounded.Maya held an unreadable entrance as she entered, she found an empty seat by the fireplace and hadn't said a word.I watched her for a while until my eyes wandered into the fireplace. It's low crackles and shadows that danced by the wall.Maya stretched her hand forward and rubbed them together. She tasted warmth enough to satisfy her before she shifted to the chair beside me.Her hand was busy with a scroll now, I got a closer look at her— the lively Maya was gone. Her eyes half-lidded from exhaustion but still alert. The Maya was different. Graceful despite her worries, elegant when she wasn't planning to be.I watched her for a while wondering how we had come this far. Th
