But he did not; he made sure that I left the Pack House. He made sure that to let the guards know that I was not allowed back until morning. So now, I was on the streets at night, when it was cold and literally anything could happen to me.
I could get jumped, or worse…taken advantage of.
It was not like our pack was not safe, but like everywhere, there were creeps and perverts. So I was so scared, or maybe it was just all in my head. Whether it was that or not, I was not going to take any chances.
So I made my way down the street and went somewhere where there was a lot of light. It was a bus stop, and there was only an older man there, probably waiting for the bus to take him home to his family. Sitting down, I just stared into the distance.
Tears burned my eyes, but I did not let them fall. I was not weak. I had been through way too much to allow myself to cry all because I had been told to sleep outside for one night. I wasn’t a big deal…right?
I sniffled, swallowing hard. There was a knot in my throat that just seemed to be growing bigger with each passing minute.
“You look familiar,” The old man broke the silence. I turned, and we locked eyes. “Aren’t you the one who leaked the pack’s battle plans to the rogue werewolves?” He asked, squinting as he continued to stare at me.
“What…?” My voice was small, but I knew exactly what he was talking about. And of course, he knew me. When I had been sent to prison three years ago, my mugshot had been shared all over the news. So yeah, everyone hated me.
I was a celebrity, just not the kind that would get me recognized out of love. I was recognized because of collective hate and anger.
“It’s you. Cassie.” He frowned. “My son died in battle that day because of what you did.” He scoffed, pain flashing in his eyes.
This broke my heart. “I am so sorry, sir,” I said, trying to reach out to him.
He flinched away from me. “Don’t you dare,” He warned. “I don’t even know why they let you out. You deserve to rot behind bars for your wickedness. You deserve death.” He spat at me.
I forced a sad smile as the tears I was holding back slipped from my eyes. I wiped them away as quickly as I could as I stood on my feet. “Again, I am so sorry, sir.” If only he knew the truth. But will knowing even help him? It won’t bring back his son, will it?
The man said a slur at me, and I decided to leave before it got worse. I hugged myself while walking away. I had no choice but to walk away from the only place that I felt kind of safe. As I did, I felt like I was being watched.
Call it paranoia, but I could literally feel a pair of eyes or more on me. I increased my pace, no idea where I was going. I had no friends. No one to call. Since I was painted as the one who had betrayed the pack, everyone tore away from me. No one wanted to do with me.
And after what Rafael had done today, locking me in that cellar. I would rather die than go to him for help.
I reached a crosswalk, and then I heard someone as I crossed. They were behind me. “Hey, pretty thing!”
“Sh*t,” I said under my breath as my heart started to race as if I was being chased by a wild animal. I wanted to run. I was so tempted to run, but I did not want the guy to chase me. Not when I did not have my wolf anymore. I would not stand a chance. “Please, goddess, please,” I prayed.
“Hey, I’m talking to you!” The guy had a thick accent, but I did not know where he was from. I could hear his footsteps getting closer and faster. “F*cking traitor!”
“What do you want?” I managed to bravely say when I reached the other side of the road. I did not stop. But I did glance back. That was when I saw the man. I did not know him. He was wearing dirty clothes, the hood of his hoodie covering his head.
I could see parts of his face. He had a stubble that looked unclean, and there was something that was in his right hand that reflected the light from the streetlamp for a second. When I recognized it, I felt like my world was about to come to an end.
It was a pocket knife.
Was this how I was going to die?
I turned back, walking even faster. But the moment I heard him running, I knew that it was over. I started to run as I shouted, “Help! Somebody help me!” But no one did. There was barely anyone out. The street that I was on was mostly empty.
My cries for help did nothing. Even if someone was going to see the scene, I just knew they were going to allow whatever was happening to happen, all because they all believed that I was a traitor.
I ran with all that I could, but before I knew it, strong arms grabbed me from behind and pushed me to the hard concrete. Pain shot through my side and lower back. I looked up to see the guy.
He was looking down at me with a dangerous smirk, holding the pocket knife tightly. In the blink of an eye, the sharp object came down at me.
It felt like it was the end for me, and I mentally prepared myself for the pain. I closed my eyes, and I was ready. If this was how the Moon goddess wanted it to go for me, then what could I do? Then a grunt caused me to open my eyes. I saw that someone had jumped the guy who had been trying to hurt me. At first, I did not know who it was. And for some reason, I felt like I had been glued to the pavement of the sidewalk. I just lay there, watching in horror. The mysterious guy who had a hoodie on as well grabbed the one who wanted to hurt me and lifted him in the air easily before slamming him to the ground in anger. It did not stop there; a few hard punches and kicks followed until the guy was now unconscious. Breathing deeply, my savior turned to me, and I saw his face. He removed his hoodie as well, and my jaw dropped. “It’s you,” I said as I stared at him. It was the same warrior guy who had saved me the first time. How had he found me? And why did he keep appearing at times w

Cassie’s POVIt was now night; darkness had fallen, and as I sat on the bed, so much ran through my mind. Why was I like this? I was literally back in the Pack House, surrounded by luxury. I was no longer sleeping on those dirty sh*tty towels anymore. I was no longer being whipped almost every day for simple things. I was not in a room that smelled bad, had water damage, and had mold anymore. I was literally in a room that seemed fit for a princess. But it just did not feel like how it used to feel three years ago. I may not have been in a physical prison anymore, but I was definitely in an emotional and mental one right now. And I had no idea how I was going to escape it. I just wanted this whole Alpha King selection thing to be over with, and maybe I could take a loan from Leon and just disappear. Disappear where? I don’t know. Maybe far from the pack, but in a different one. In a small town where I could try to reinvent myself and be happy. Maybe I could meet someone and life wo
I winced at the pain from Rafael holding my arm so roughly. He did not stop; he kept leading me until we were down one of the many hallways. Then he stopped and finally let go out of me. “Where have you been? You were locked in the cellar; how did you even get out?” He asked, folding his arms on his wide chest as he stared daggers at me. I swallowed, knowing that I could not tell him the truth. Telling him what had really happened was going to be me throwing the warriors who had helped me under the bus. And that was not something that I wanted to do. That was not a way to repay them for what they had done for me. I could have died in there. I literally could have. “I um…” “And don’t you lie to me, Cassie. I know you.” I resisted the urge to scoff. Know me? Well, that was a load of bullsh*t. Because if he really had known me, he would not have forsaken me when I was being taken to prison. He would have helped me. He would have believed in me despite the charges brought against me.
Cassie’s POVI followed the guy out of the cabin and walked by his side until we reached a car in no time. It was a small one that looked like it had been used for years. Looking at it, I wondered if it would be able to take me back to the Pack House without breaking down, but I decided to trust it. What choice did I even have? All I knew was that I needed to get back as soon as possible. I did not want any more problems; I had way too much on my plate already, all because I had decided to take Sage’s punishment. Just thinking about it right now annoyed me, but what more could I do? I had made a deal; there was no way that I could break it. I got in the car and sat next to the guy who was now behind the steering wheel. He gestured towards the seatbelt, telling me silently to put it on. My face heated up, and I did as he asked before he placed his on as well. I was flushed because I had not been in a car for three years, so I did not even think to put my seatbelt on. As we drove,
I slowly opened my eyes, feeling like I had been heavily drugged and was just recovering. I was breathing deeply, and my vision soon cleared. I proceeded to sit up, looking around. Everything looked so…different. Where was I? My heart dropped to my stomach, and I was ready to rush out. The room that I was in was not one that I knew. I did not recognize the walls, nor the faint smell of wood that filled the space. I did not recognize the carpet on the floor. And I certainly did not recognize the ceiling fan that kept producing a sound that was giving me more anxiety than I already had. The curtains at the windows were open, letting in sunlight, but there were bars that sat there. I stood up quickly and hurried towards the door. I tried to open it, but it was locked. “Sh*t,” I said under my breath. “Sh*t, sh*t, sh*t!” I started to repeat it like a mantra. Was this another prison? Had Rafael brought me here to finish what he had started back at the Pack House? “Help!” I started to ba
