MasukVictoria's POV
I woke up to someone grabbing my arm and roughly pulling me off the floor. "Get up!" My eyes flew open, and before I could understand what was happening, two royal guards were already dragging me toward the door. I stumbled over my own feet, struggling to regain my balance as they pulled me out of the room. I glanced over my shoulder and saw Queen Evelyn lying motionless on the bed, surrounded by the same white flowers and candles from the previous night. Goodness! I had actually fallen asleep in the same room as a corpse. The guards hurried me down the corridor without giving me a chance to recover. My entire body ached, and the black choker around my neck was still preventing me from communicating with my wolf. As we approached the main staircase, I noticed that the palace was unusually busy. Servants dressed in white hurried through the corridors, carrying flowers and ceremonial decorations, while several warriors stood near the entrance. Through the large windows, I could see more servants arranging white flowers along the pathways. Large portraits of Queen Evelyn had been placed around the courtyard, and several people were already gathering outside in mourning clothes. It didn't take me long to understand what was happening. They were preparing for the Queen's funeral. I glanced toward the courtyard once more, but one of the guards tightened his grip on my arm. "Keep moving." I quickly lowered my head as they led me toward the smaller building beside the palace. We entered through a heavy iron door, descended the narrow staircase, and continued along the familiar dungeon corridor. When we reached my cell, the guards unlocked the gate and shoved me inside before locking it behind me. I stumbled forward and nearly fell before managing to steady myself against the wall. My knees were still hurting, and I was so exhausted that I could barely remain standing. I eventually lowered myself onto the cold floor, drawing my legs close to my chest. For the next several hours, I remained alone in the dungeon. My stomach ached from hunger, and my throat was painfully dry, but nobody came to bring me food or water. Sometime later, the distant sound of drums reached my ears. At first, I barely paid attention, but the sound gradually grew louder until it was accompanied by mournful chanting and the howling of wolves. The Queen's funeral had begun. I slowly lifted my head and listened. Even from where I sat, I could hear the sorrow in their voices. Queen Evelyn had been human, yet an entire kingdom of werewolves was mourning her death. I remembered the blood on her clothes and the desperate way I had tried to save her. My eyes filled with tears as I thought about the innocent child who had died alongside her. "I'm sorry," I whispered. I hadn't killed Queen Evelyn, but I was sorry that I hadn't been able to save her and her baby. The funeral continued for hours before the drums and chanting gradually faded away. By the time darkness settled outside the small barred window, the dungeon had become quiet again. I was beginning to wonder whether the guards intended to leave me there all night when footsteps echoed along the corridor. Two warriors approached my cell, and one of them unlocked the gate. "His Majesty has summoned you." My heart immediately began pounding. I struggled to my feet, using the wall for support, and followed them out of the dungeon. This time, instead of taking me toward the private rooms upstairs, they led me through the main entrance of the palace and into a large hall. Several men and women were seated around a long, polished table. They wore expensive ceremonial robes with royal insignias embroidered across their chests, and I immediately realized that I had been brought before the royal council. King Lennox sat at the head of the table, still dressed in the white ceremonial clothes he had worn to his wife's funeral. His dark hair was slightly disheveled, and his face looked pale and exhausted. There were dark circles beneath his bloodshot eyes, and he sat with one hand resting against his forehead. The moment an elderly councilman noticed me standing between the guards, he rose abruptly from his chair. "Your Majesty! Is this the woman responsible for Her Majesty's death?" His question immediately drew everyone's attention toward me. "Why is she still alive?" a woman demanded angrily. "I thought she was sentenced to death yesterday!" "She murdered our Queen and her unborn child!" another councilman declared, slamming his palm against the table. "Such a crime cannot go unpunished!" "Exactly!" the elderly man agreed. "Your Majesty, the entire kingdom is mourning today. How can we allow the woman responsible for this tragedy to remain alive?" The accusations continued from every direction. One council member demanded my immediate execution, while another insisted that my body should be displayed publicly as a warning to anyone who dared harm the royal family. I stood frozen between the guards, my heart pounding as the council members demanded my death. I wanted to defend myself, but the hatred in their eyes made it clear that nobody was interested in hearing what I had to say. "Your Majesty, we demand justice!" the elderly councilman continued. "Her Majesty deserves justice, and so does the child she was carrying!" Several others nodded in agreement, and the hall quickly filled with angry voices. Throughout the commotion, King Lennox remained seated. He didn't interrupt them or even look in my direction. Instead, he stared at the table, his jaw clenched tightly. Finally, he raised one hand. "Enough." The hall immediately fell silent. King Lennox slowly lifted his head and looked toward the council members. "I buried my wife and child today," he said coldly. "Do you think I need any of you to remind me of what happened to them?" Nobody answered. The elderly councilman lowered his head, while the others exchanged uneasy glances. King Lennox pushed his chair backward and rose to his feet. His eyes finally settled on me. "Bring her forward." The guards immediately pulled me toward the table. I stumbled as they forced me to stop several feet away from him, and I quickly lowered my head. For several seconds, Lennox simply stared at me. "Yesterday, this woman begged me to spare her life," he announced, addressing the council. "She offered herself to me in exchange for her life." A murmur spread through the room. "Offered herself?" one of the councilwomen repeated. "Your Majesty, surely you cannot be considering such an arrangement!" "Taking her into the royal household would be an insult to our late Queen," another councilman added. "The people will never accept it." King Lennox turned toward him. "Did I ask for your approval?" The councilman immediately lowered his head. "No, Your Majesty." "Then remain silent." The hall became quiet again. King Lennox stepped away from the table and approached me, stopping directly in front of me. "Victoria, do you still want to live?" I nodded quickly. "Yes, Your Majesty." He studied my face for a moment before speaking again. "Then you will have to prove that you deserve the mercy you begged for." I looked up at him nervously, unsure of what he meant. Before I could ask, he turned toward the guards. "Take her to the eastern courtyard." My stomach tightened, but I didn't dare question him. The guards immediately pulled me toward the doors, and I glanced over my shoulder to see King Lennox following us, accompanied by several council members. We walked through a long corridor before stepping outside into the cool night air. Torches burned along the palace grounds as the guards led me toward a large, open courtyard surrounded by high stone walls. Unlike the beautiful gardens I had seen earlier, this place was almost completely bare. A tall stone pillar stood at the far end, and several royal warriors were waiting near the entrance. One of them held a large bow, with a quiver of silver-tipped arrows hanging across his back. The guards dragged me to the center of the courtyard and forced me onto my knees. I cried out as they struck the hard ground, but neither of them showed any concern. King Lennox approached slowly, stopping a few feet in front of me. The council members gathered behind him, watching silently. "Before you can share my bed, Victoria, you must first prove yourself worthy of it," he said coldly. I looked up at him, confused and frightened. He turned toward the warrior holding the bow and gestured for him to step forward. The man immediately obeyed, stopping beside him. King Lennox pointed toward the stone pillar at the opposite end of the courtyard. "Do you see that pillar?" I swallowed hard. "You're going to run toward it," he continued. "My archer will shoot three arrows at you while you run. If you reach that pillar alive, I'll make you my breeder." My eyes widened, and for a moment, I could only stare at him. My lips parted, but no words came out. The archer stepped forward and removed an arrow from his quiver. The silver tip caught the torchlight as he fitted it against his bowstring. "If you fail," King Lennox added coldly, "you die." I shook my head and instinctively moved backward, but one of the guards immediately caught my arm. "Please..." I whispered, looking desperately at the King. He ignored me. "Position yourself," he ordered the archer. The warrior immediately moved behind me. My eyes darted toward the high walls surrounding the courtyard, then toward the guards stationed near the entrance. There was nowhere to escape. "Your Majesty..." I tried again, but my voice broke. King Lennox turned toward the guards. "Get her on her feet." They immediately hauled me upright and forced me to face the pillar. My knees trembled beneath me, and I struggled to remain standing. Behind me, the archer raised his bow. I heard the faint creak of the bowstring being pulled back, and my breathing became heavier. Tears blurred my vision as I stared at the pillar ahead. I couldn't move. My feet felt rooted to the ground. "Victoria." King Lennox's voice made me flinch. I turned my head slightly toward him, my face wet with tears. His expression remained cold. "Run."VICTORIA'S POVMy breath caught in my throat, and I quickly shook my head. "Your Majesty, it's Victoria."But he didn't seem to hear me. He took an unsteady step forward, staring at me as though he couldn't believe what he was seeing."Ellie..." he whispered again.I instinctively backed away. "Your Majesty, please. I think you should sit down."He continued approaching, his expression changing from disbelief to something that looked almost like happiness. "I knew it," he murmured. "I knew you wouldn't leave me."Before I could move again, he reached me and caught my hands. I flinched, expecting him to hurt me, but he only held them, looking down at me with tears gathering in his eyes."Where have you been?" he asked.I stared at him, too frightened and confused to answer."I've been looking for you everywhere, Ellie. I went to your room. I went to the garden. I even went back to..." His voice broke, and he shook his head. "It doesn't matter. You're here now.""Your Majesty...""Don't
VICTORIA'S POVSix days had passed since I last saw Alpha King Lennox, and I was beginning to hope he had forgotten about me. I knew that was impossible, of course. He had spared my life for one reason, and sooner or later, he would come looking for me. But after everything I'd suffered since arriving at the palace, six days without seeing his face felt like a blessing.I had spent most of that time recovering in a small room in the servants' quarters. Although the royal healer had discharged me from the infirmary, my injuries were far from healed. The silver arrow wound on my thigh still hurt whenever I walked, and the heavy black choker around my neck continued to suppress my wolf, preventing my body from healing properly. Thankfully, Stella had been helping me. She visited whenever she could, bringing food, medicine, and special herbs that had gradually eased my pain. That evening, she arrived with another bowl of medicine and a clean bandage."You're walking much better," she obse
VICTORIA'S POVWhen we reached Alpha Lennox’s chambers, he walked straight to the velvet chair by the desk, sat down, and crossed one long leg over the other. His dark eyes locked onto mine and stayed there. He didn’t speak. He didn’t need to. The cold weight of that stare was enough.I didn’t wait for the order.Slowly, with shaking fingers, I unbuttoned what was left of the torn blue dress and let it slide down my body. The ruined fabric pooled softly around my ankles. My skin prickled as the cold room air hit me, making the raw scratches from the guards burn. It was better to just get it over with. Better to take whatever he wanted tonight so I could leave this room alive. Just a little longer, I told myself. Just survive this.I stood completely naked in front of him. Lennox picked up his glass, took a slow drink of whiskey, and let his eyes move over every part of me. His face stayed blank as he glared at my bare body, his dark gaze lingering everywhere until heat rushed to my ch
LENNOX'S POVI placed Evelyn’s photograph beside the jewelry box and sat on the edge of the bed. The silence that followed felt heavier than usual. I wasn't sure what I would do when Victoria arrived, only that I needed to look at the woman who had taken everything from me on the day that should have been ours. And I needed to remind her, again, that her body now belonged to me.I waited. After several minutes I rose and poured myself a glass of whiskey, but even the burning liquid did nothing to settle the anger coiling in my chest. When almost twenty minutes had passed with no sign of her, the anger that had been building all evening began to boil.I mind-linked Damon."Damon. Come to my room."He arrived quickly."Is something wrong?""Where is Victoria?"His eyebrows drew together. "She hasn’t been brought here?""Would I be asking if she had?"Damon immediately reached for his mind link. He tried the first guard. No answer. He tried the second. Still nothing. His expre
LENNOX'S POV"Happy anniversary, Ellie."I stared at the framed photograph in my hand, wondering how three simple words could hurt so much. Evelyn was smiling in the picture, her beautiful brown eyes sparkling with happiness as she leaned against my chest. I remembered the exact moment it was taken. She had spent nearly ten minutes trying to convince me to smile, and when I refused, she had threatened to tell the entire kingdom that their terrifying Alpha King was afraid of a camera. That was Ellie. She had never been afraid of me, not even when everyone else trembled at the mention of my name. She would argue with me over the smallest things, steal food from my plate during dinner, and laugh whenever I complained about her stubbornness. Somehow that little human had walked into my life and made me forget what it meant to be alone. And now she was gone.I ran my thumb over her face, feeling that familiar ache spreading through my chest. Today marked the anniversary of the day we
Victoria’s POVBefore the woman could say another word, the heavy wooden door of the infirmary swung open with a loud thud, and two royal guards in armor stepped inside.“Your Ladyship,” one of them said, bowing his head respectfully. “His Majesty has ordered us to bring the prisoner to his rooms right away.”I froze, the cold air rushing into my lungs like ice. Lennox wanted to see me again? Already? The woman whipped her head toward the guards, her eyes flashing with anger at the sudden interruption. “And couldn’t you fools have waited until I was finished speaking?”“We apologize, Your Ladyship,” the second guard replied, his voice flat and emotionless. “But His Majesty was very clear. We are to bring her to him without any delay.”She turned back to me, her face twisting into a nasty sneer, her eyes burning with pure hatred. “You’re lucky, bitch,” she hissed, leaning down until her hand was inches from my face, pointing a sharp, red nail directly between my eyes. “Enjoy his bed wh
