The first thought that went through my mind when I saw her step out of that car was that she was beautiful. She looked ethereal in that white, flowing gown that I'd always hated when we were younger, and it wasn't because it didn't suit her. It simply reminded me of everything I wasn't meant to touch, but did. The dress covered her slender, alluring curves as she moved towards us with soft, graceful steps. Her shiny, long hair shimmered under the bright mansion lights, adorned with the Head Priestess's ornament. Delilah had grown into a gorgeous young woman. Panic and disbelief flickered in her light hazel eyes when they landed on me, but it quickly vanished as she broke eye contact. Despite the cold, controlled calm on her face, I could still sense the storm beneath. My plan to surprise her had worked, but she seemed determined to remain unshaken by my sudden appearance, no matter what. “Deliliah, there you are,” Caspian Quinlan said, his voice slightly strained. After inheriting his father's position as alpha of the Vyrclaw Pack, he had grown more irritating than I remembered. “Please come forward. You must greet—” “His Majesty, it is a pleasure to receive you in the Vyrclaw Pack,” Deliliah cut in coolly, lifting the hem of her long white gown as she moved towards us. Unlike her cold, rigid expression, Vivian didn't seem a bit surprised by the situation and merely trailed after her with practiced steps. What a nice reunion, I mused dryly. Once the two women reached in front of us, they immediately crossed their arms against each other, fingers making a crescent shape as they curtsied to me. If it were any other person, the sight would have appeased my wolf, but it didn't. Because watching the woman I love pay homage to me was the last thing that I desired tonight. “You may raise,” I said, waving my hand casually. Deliliah and Vivian immediately straightened their figures on my command, but they kept their eyes strictly to the floor near me. As time passed by, I tapped my feet impatiently for Deliliah to raise her head, waiting for a chance to see those pair of beautiful hazel eyes, but then it never happened. Then my Grand Beta, Andrei, suddenly stepped forward and whispered. “Your Majesty, your eyes...” I stiffened at his words. Turning around to check myself on the reflective glass doors, what I saw in return made me stiffen. The Sovereign's Eyes. Of course. Now, it made sense why everyone within proximity was cowering in fear, their eyes latched to the ground. To look upon the Alpha King's Sovereign Eyes was to invite madness or...death. Yet, I had never consciously used it even once. Unlike other normal wolves of the country, my wolf and I had never been in sync before. While I preferred to be calm and reasonable in most situations, my wolf was the complete opposite. He was unpredictable and brutal, always hungry for dominance and craving attention and worship. The only thing we shared in common was our love for Deliliah. Since I knew I wouldn't be getting rid of these eyes soon, I decided to utilize them to the fullest. Rather than fight with my wolf on every little decision, I decided it was better to go along with him for now. After ascending the throne, it was imperative not to show any form of weakness that would ruin my plans. “The night air is rather chilly,” I said, already turning towards the entrance. “Let's go in.” After saying that, I offered my arm to Deliliah. I knew she was undoubtedly still furious at me, but my wolf and I craved her contact after so many years. However, my eyes narrowed slightly when Caspian also did the same beside her. She took it. I watched them move past me as they entered the mansion, but my eyes remained on the woman who refused to spare me another glance. Her icy restraint cut far more than any fury could. My jaw tightened, but my expression didn't change. Her reaction towards me was to be expected, but it didn't stop something ugly from stirring in my chest. I forced myself to follow them, watching everyone's laughter die down, their expression transforming from initial admiration to dread and reverence once their eyes landed on me. They all curtsied on cue, their wolves greatly subdued by my presence alone. This was what supreme power felt like. It was only Delilah who didn't break a sweat in her step as she stepped upon the sacred platform. She turned away from the Moon Altar, addressing the guests in a clear and authoritative voice. “In the presence of the Moon Goddess, the new Alpha King offers gratitude for his victory and seeks her blessing on his new reign!” I stepped upon the sacred platform and dropped to one knee in front of her. Ancient lunar markings pulsed faintly under the moonlight spilling from the open dome above. I lowered my head with a low, displeased grunt. Sometimes, tradition demanded humility, but I had never been good at pretending. I resented the moon goddess with all my heart, but I was willing to endure this ritual to achieve my plans. Deliliah stepped forward, her movement slow but deliberate. Her palm brushed my forehead, channeling the Moon Goddess’s presence through me. Power surged violently, sharper than anything I had ever felt. My breath hitched despite myself. She felt it too. I knew she did. Deliliah quickly pulled her hand away, intending to end the ritual as soon as possible. But then, I grabbed her wrist before she could step back, feeling the power of the Moon Goddess thrum beneath her fingertips. “Wait,” I said, my voice low but clear and firm. “There is a vow that I wish to make to the Moon Goddess now that I am here.” “The ritual is almost finished, Your Majesty.” Deliliah's expression hardened as she chastised me in a sharp voice. “You cannot disrupt the ritual simply based on whims—” “Before the Moon Goddess who bears witness,” I said, my voice booming across the hall, “I, Viktor Volvov, swear this vow. That I will take no mate, accept no bond, and bear no mark,” I continued, steady and unflinching, “except one woman. Deliliah Carmichael, Head Priestess of the Vyrclaw Pack.” Gasps erupted around us. I didn’t look away from her. Her face drained of color. “Should I fail to mate her before my thirtieth birthday,” I said, “I forfeit my life to the Moon Goddess’ judgment without resistance, without appeal.” The markings beneath our feet ignited in blinding silver. Power surged violently upward, wrapping around my body like chains forged of moonlight. I welcomed it. “Stop!” Deliliah reached for me, panic finally breaking through her composure. “You’re insane. This vow will kill you!” I turned toward her fully. “I know,” I said softly. “And I do not regret it.” Her voice broke. “But...why?” I held her gaze, every truth I had buried clawing its way to the surface. “Because my life you already ended three years ago,” I said. “This way… at least it means something.” The Moon Goddess suddenly answered. The power slammed into me, searing itself into my bones, my blood, my soul. I dropped to one knee as the vow sealed itself, irreversible and absolute. I had done it. I had just gambled my life for love... and now, it was counting down.DELILAH Six months later... “Vivian, we are going to be late if you don't come out of the shower!” The response I received was some warbled sound that echoed through the closed door. I rolled my eyes in exasperation before folding the rest of my jeans into my suitcase. Luckily, I had forced Vivian to pack the previous night, or else we would have been late today. It took me thirty minutes to finish packing all my stuff and then, Vivian stepped out of the bathroom. I barely turned around to see my friend standing in her birthday suit so I jerked back in surprise. “What the hell?” I gasped, clutching my chest. “Did you not see the towel in the bathroom?” Vivian gave me an unapologetic smirk before walking towards towards her clothes scattered all over the bed. “Yeah, I saw it,” she replied, pulling her shirt over her head. “But why would I need to be modest when we are just here?” I opened my mouth to reply when I picked up some sounds approaching down the hallway. I didn't ne
DELILAHJust when Caspian’s monstrous form was lunging toward me with his claws raised, something suddenly exploded across the platform. A massive black wolf slammed into him from the side with enough force to shake the ground. The impact sent both of them crashing away from me, rolling across the ground in a violent fight of teeth and claws. That was when I finally saw the wolf that saved me.The black wolf moved with brutal precision, snapping its jaws, forcing Caspian back with every strike. Even in this chaos, there was some familiarity that echoed through my very chest. My breath caught at the sight. “Viktor,” I whispered, disbelief crashing through me. Relief hit me so hard my knees almost gave out. Here he was, alive and strong, fighting for me and for all the lives in the Vyrclaw Pack.I thought he had abandoned me, but I was wrong. He came back for me again. He always did.My heart twisted violently as I watched him fight Caspian, their bodies colliding again and again. Vik
DELILAHAfter seven moons, it was finally the day of Caspian's mating ceremony. The whole town was buzzing with celebration. Laughter echoed through the streets as music played from every corner, people gathering in clusters to dance, talk, and enjoy the moment. Shop doors stayed closed, not because they had to, but because no one wanted to be inside when everything was happening out here. The air felt warm and alive, filled with excitement and a quiet sense that something important was about to unfold. But my skin had been ridden with goosebumps since the sun rose to the sky. The entire Moon Temple was now empty since I sent down the forest to celebrate with the rest of the pack. It was only time they were allowed to be so carefree, and I did not want restrict them. Even though every fibre of me protested against the decision. I let out a faint breath and adjusted the Head Priestess robes on my body. A part of me was a bit scared about the plans I made today, fearing that somethin
DELILAHI carried Vivian's unconscious body back to the Moon Temple in order to avoid any unwanted eyes. It was a great struggle at first, navigating through the forests before reaching my destination but I did not relent. We could not afford for any patrolling sentry to see us like this, or else we would alert Tessa and then our plans would be ruined. So, I weaved my way through pack territory, taking all the shortcuts I knew until I finally reached my destination. I had just summoned the last vestiges of my Moon magic to pull down the barrier so we could pass through when I saw someone leaning against a tree with his arms folded. It was Dvah.My eyes widened surprise when I saw him but he didn't even spare me a glance as he rushed to hold the person on my back. “What the fuck happened?” he growled, his voice rough with worry. “Why is she injured? Where the hell are you two coming from?”I opened my mouth to explain everything, but then I remembered that we were still outside the
DELILAHCaspian immediately shot up from his seat without hesitation, not caring about the loud screech it made across the floor when he closed the distance between us. As soon as he got in front of me, he lowered himself on one knee before grabbing my arm, checking to see if I was hurt."Delilah, are you alright?" he asked, his voice full of concern. I was too shaken up by the divination to the point that I didn't even know how to respond for three solid seconds. My mind kept replaying all the images I'd seen earlier, and suddenly everything made sense. The fact that I had just unknowingly acquired the answers I have been looking for all this time through a simple divination nearly made my knees buckle from a mix of relief and exhaustion."Delilah?"I snapped my head up to see the blatant concern in Caspian's eyes looking back at me. It had been so long since he looked at me like that, so it nearly softened me, making me spill secrets that I had no business telling him. But then my
DELIILAH Two days later, I didn't hear anything from Viktor that day. Vivian locked herself in her room ever since that night and refused to come out. I tried to go to the visit his royal quarters but the guards refused to let me in. So what the hell happened? Where had he gone to? I felt abandoned and confused, but all my efforts to decipher the situation were futile. If it wasn't for my powers currently being drained, I would have already used a tracking spell to find him. Leaning against my seat, I pinched my nose bridge to curb my insistent headache. My alpha's upcoming wedding was another pain to think about, especially since the days were quickly passing by. Deep down, I knew I had to leave the pack soon, but I didn't want to go without Viktor. A knock on the door suddenly tore my attention away. I lifted my head to glare at the door, as if willing the person at the other side to go away but she didn't. After two more hesitant knocks, I finally responded. “Come
DELILAHAfter two weeks of searching for Iris without any success, I decided to ask for Caspian's help. When the sun had barely risen, three other priestesses and I waited at the forest entrance, where the pack normally emerged after their morning run, paw marks pressed into the fresh, damp earth.
DELILAH Caspian sat rigidly in his office, his expression as stormy as the sea after receiving news of Iris' death. His ocean-blue eyes flashed with a cold intensity, almost mirroring the scornful gaze of his fiancée, Tessa. Despite the raw tension crackling between us, he chose to remain silent,
DELILAHTwo hours later, I marched straight to the east wing of Viktor's royal quarters. As soon as I arrived at his door, two large, intimidating men intercepted me before I could even knock. Their arms were crossed, muscles taut, and their faces bore deep scowls that would leave lesser wolves pis
VIKTORAfter parting ways with Delilah, I retreated to my royal quarters in a state of barely restrained fury. My wolf prowled restlessly beneath my skin, unusually subdued, as though even he knew better than to challenge the storm raging inside me. The memory of Delilah walking away, looking so co
