LOGINDELILIAH
Three years later... I put some finishing touches on my makeup before stepping out of my quarters in a white, long, flowing robe. A black, sleek car was parked outside, blending with the darkness of the night. A middle-aged man bowed his head before running around to open the passenger door for me. I had barely taken two steps towards the vehicle before a head suddenly appeared in view. “Deliliah!” my friend, Vivian, beckoned me with a grin. “Get in! We're gonna be late!” My steps came to a brief pause as I stared at the quarter moon in the sky, wondering if I should do a quick divination to check on my luck for the evening. Of all the replacements my deputy priestess could choose to take her place for the evening, she just had to choose the wildcard in my life, the Oracle of the Moon Priestesses. After a second thought, I decided against it and entered the car with a sigh. The car engine immediately flared into life as the vehicle drove off, leaving the secluded forest and heading straight into the heart of pack territory. My friend immediately scooted closer with a bright smile on her face. “Hey, there,” she said, bumping her shoulders with mine. “I bet you didn't expect me to follow you for tonight's event, did ya?” I swallowed the frustrated groan bubbling in my throat and simply shook my head. “No, Vivian. I did not expect you here. I thought my deputy priestess despised you since the day you dragged her hair when we were fourteen.” Vivian's smile faltered, turning sheepish, but she did not back away as I'd expected. “Yeah, she did. I had to pull some strings to change her decision.” Of course she did. My beautiful, red-haired, sharp-tongued friend, who wore the same white gown as mine, couldn't possibly have accepted my deputy priestess's decision so easily. With her brown, doe eyes and fiery temper, she probably argued her way until she had no choice but to let her come tonight. “Just tell me that you didn't get into another physical fight with Hannah,” I said, resisting the urge to pinch my nose bridge like I always do whenever Vivian was involved. “I-I didn't!” she sputtered, eyes wide with panic and guilt. “I...just asked Caspian to overturn her decision.” My expression hardened. “That was out of line. You had no right—” “I know! I know I shouldn't have done it!” Vivian said, raising her hand in surrender. “But I was desperate. I didn't know how to watch over you after the morning divination I foresaw after the gathering.” My head snapped to her for the first time in the night after hearing her words. As Oracle of the Vyrclaw Pack, Vivian was the kind of woman who always acted strictly on the moon goddess's orders. If she didn't want to say anything, it would be nearly impossible to get it out of her. “Fine,” I relented with a soft sigh. “Just...try not to cause trouble tonight.” Vivian's body relaxed after receiving my permission, her smile appearing once more as she leaned against the posh leather seat. “Of course, I'll be on my best behavior. Caspian drilled the importance of tonight's event into my brain before he let me go,” she said, before clearing her throat and adopting a feigned solemn tone. “There must be absolutely no mishaps in the welcoming ceremony of the new Alpha King into the Vyrclaw Pack.” I rolled my eyes, knowing that she was only doing it to grate my nerves. It was only three months ago that we received news that the former Alpha King had been defeated and another had taken his place. No one knew his name, but his tales already preceded him. Some say that he was a brute and a bloodthirsty savage wolf who liked to fight others without reason. Others said he was a cold, calculated strategist who let others do his dirty work. But there was one thing that was common in all these rumours. He remained undefeated since his first wolf battle. “Have you been able to find out his identity yet?” I asked, watching the bright streetlights blur past my window as we entered the town. Vivian shook her head. “Not yet. No one has been able to even get a picture of him since he ascended the throne. That's why he's visiting the pack one by one, introducing himself personally.” Hmm, a man of mystery. I couldn't care less who sat on that damn throne as long as it didn't affect the smaller packs in the country. All I wanted was a peaceful life where I could live out my life as the Head Priestess of the Vyrclaw Pack, fulfilling my vow to the moon goddess. So all I said was, “Then I guess we'll find out his identity tonight.” The ride was silent for a while until we nearly reached the alpha's mansion. The dazzling lights outside the magnificent building never failed to take my breath away, but it looked even more beautiful tonight. Vivian suddenly turned to me with a solemn expression. “That reminds me, I have one last thing to discuss with you.” This time, I didn't hold back from releasing a weary sigh. “What is it?” “It is about the young acolyte, Iris,” she said. “I think she has suffered enough at the Hall of Punishment and should be released as soon as possible.” “No.” Vivian's voice turned pleading. “C'mon, Deliliah. She made a small mistake of sneaking out of the temple grounds. She is a young and curious child, so it only makes sense that she would be a bit mischievous—” “I have already passed my judgment and will not be questioned, Vivian,” I snapped, my voice sharp and final. “Let her punishment serve as a warning to the other young acolytes who are curious about things that do not concern them. Our duty is to serve the moon goddess, and that is what we shall do.” At that same moment, the car came to a screeching stop in front of the mansion. I came out of the car and immediately walked towards the mansion with soft, steady steps. But what I saw made my legs nearly give out. I thought I was dreaming... no, I thought I might have been hexed or be under some kind of illusion. Because there was just no way this could be possible. It just couldn't be real. The sight of my alpha, Caspian Quinlan, standing side-by-side with my first love, Viktor Volvov, who was wearing the Alpha King's crown. What. The. Hell?VIKTORI barely reached there in time. After Kytiri sent word to me about the ongoing pack trial, I immediately got into my car and sped here as fast as I could. I would have chosen my wolf form if it were possible, but I feared losing myself to the primal instincts that surged within me. The mere thought of my wolf witnessing her pain threatened to unravel the fragile threads of my sanity, so I decided to deal with this problem with my reason intact. Anxiety wrapped its cold fingers around my gut, tightening with every passing second as I burst out of the car and dashed toward the imposing building, ignoring the guards stationed at the entrance who cast suspicious glances my way. When I finally reached the Council Meeting room, the first thing I saw was Delilah standing at the center of the room. On the surface, she seemed calm like a still lake, but I could sense her suffering from within. The pain was so visceral that it threatened to rip me apart, clawing through my flesh and tend
DELILAHThe room was filled with heavy tension. Vivian and I paced back and forth anxiously, each one engrossed in our own thoughts as we struggled to come for a solution for the current problem. After the pack trial was adjourned, Caspian ordered for all the witnesses to be sent to an empty room adjacent to the Council Meeting room while the ritual for the Moon Vow was being prepared. So my best friend somehow managed to bribe the guards and sneak into the witness room to come discuss things with me. After two minutes, she suddenly turned to me. "I know what to do," she said, keeping her voice low. "I can talk to some of the priestesses there. We can tamper with some of the ritual components there."I shook my head, knowing that it wouldn't work. But Vivian refused to be discouraged by my refusal, trying to defend her idea. "I just know we can do it, Delilah," she insisted. "We can switch the herbs, mess with the oils or something....I dunno. We just can't sit here and do nothing.
DELILAHHours later, I found myself in the Vyrclaw Council Meeting room. My alpha, Caspian, was seated on the largest chair on a high platform, with his Beta standing behind him. Tessa stood right by his side, her eyes glaring at the empty Luna throne. The entire pack was gathered around to witness the pack hearing, but all I could see was the frightened expression of the woman standing in the centre of the room with her mate. My chest tightened as I glanced at the black mourning attire she was wearing. She was the woman who lost her baby. I forced myself to walk, watching the crowd part for me until I stood beside the woman. The husband, Gideon, was bristling with rage as he glared at his wife. His dominant aura had subdued her completely, causing her to tremble like a leaf. When our eyes met, her eyes flickered with awareness before she looked away.I sucked in a deep breath. She knew about Viktor's presence in that cabin that night.Caspian's authoritative voice pierced through th
DELILAHTwo days later, my desk was buried beneath gifts and thank-you letters when I arrived at the temple before dawn.Despite my efforts to keep a low profile after what happened at the healer’s cabin, the pack had still found ways to send their gratitude. Baskets of fruit, bundles of herbs, handwritten notes, even fresh flowers were piled so high I could barely see the surface of the desk.I groaned under my breath, staring at the mountain of offerings and wondering where on earth I was supposed to put all of it before starting my work.Someone else in the room clearly wasn’t pleased by the sight either.“You must be very pleased with yourself, Delilah.”Her voice dripped with bitterness.I rolled my eyes and carefully navigated around the desk, reaching for the flowers first before they wilted. “What do you mean, Lily?”“Oh, please.” She let out a sharp laugh, her hands tightening around the armrests of her wheelchair. “You know exactly what I mean. Just admit it, you’re thrilled
DELILAH My pulse thundered in my ears. The existence of rogue wolves was close to none in this region, so I had only dealt with these kinds of situations four times in the past three years. The sight of these women turning rogue and struggling to deliver their children at the same time made my heart squeeze. "Delilah?"I snapped out of my thoughts after hearing Olivia's panicked voice. I took a long, shaky breath to suppress my fear before stepping forward and lifting my hands.“I’m going to try to purify them,” I said. Before anyone could respond, I began whispering the spell under my breath.Silver light gathered around my fingers as ancient words rolled off my tongue, vibrating with power. I watched the silver light settle over the women's weak bodies, a sharp contrast to the sunlight pouring in from the window. For a while, nothing happened. Then black smoke began to seep from the women’s bodies. It crawled from their mouths, their eyes, their skin like something alive, twisti
DELILAHThe ride to the healer's cabin was a rough but quick one. I had to literally drag Kytiri from the shadows to get him to ride us out of the Moon Temple to the heart of the pack (since I already found out that he was watching me from the shadows). The speed he drove broke all the driving limits but no one dared to stop him. My heart pounded loudly in my ears as I gazed the Blood Moon from the window. The sight sent me spiraling into dark thoughts, considering all the worst possibilities concerning the current situation.Vivian suddenly reached for me, her touch snapping me out of my daze with a slight jerk. "Hey, it's gonna be okay. The moon goddess is on our side, Delilah.""Is she?" I murmured, my voice unsteady with panic. "Because if she was on our side, the Blood Moon would have never been awakened in the first place. Do you think she's still trying to punish me for using blood magic—"Vivian immediately cut me off with a sharp glare. "Don't do this, Delilah," she warned,
