VIOLET

My parents picked me up from my dorm room and drove me to the hall where the birthday party was being held—the very last place I wanted to be.

“Violet, darling. How is your first day at school so far?” my mother asked on our way, looking at me expectantly.

“Good,” I simply replied.

She raised her brow. “And your roommate?”

“She’s perfect,” I told her, looking away and peering through the window, hoping she’d drop the conversation. I wasn’t interested in small talk at the moment. I still hated that I had to come to this school and was being forced to attend the birthday party of that boy!

“I trust you’ll blend in perfectly,” Father added.

“Sure.”

We arrived at the venue, and they positioned me between them as we entered. The hall was so huge, filled with overdressed students and their equally overdressed parents, all wearing the same plastic smiles as they mingled. I hated going to functions like this, and I specifically hated being at this particular one.

As we ventured further into the hall, my eyes caught sight of someone, and I froze. The ever-arrogant Alpha prince. My gaze shifted to the girl standing next to him, registering the position the two of them were in. His arms were curled around her shoulders, pulling her in tightly. A strange feeling settled in my chest, and I had the sudden urge to rush over and yank his arm away from her. I closed my eyes, shaking that feeling off. What was wrong with me?

The next time I opened my eyes, he was standing in front of me, gripping my arm and attempting to drag me away.

I quickly caught my arm, glaring at him. “What do you think you are doing?” I hissed.

His expression faltered, confusion clouding his features. “You don’t feel—” He stopped mid-sentence, sighing as though realizing something.

Without another word, he grabbed my wrist and started pulling me with him again. I tried to wrest my hand free, but I couldn’t. He was just too strong.

“Leave me alone!” I yelled.

“What do you think you’re doing?” My father’s voice boomed as he stormed over, yanking Axel’s grip from my arm.

Axel’s eyes glowed red as he turned to look at my father, staring at him intently without saying a word. I knew immediately that he was controlling his mind.

“Yes. You can leave with her.” My father’s face suddenly relaxed, and that was the scariest thing I had ever seen. Axel Northwood really had psychic abilities. Dangerous.

“Axel Northwood!” The commanding voice of the school’s principal, Alpha Richard, cut through the tension as he stepped between us, his expression a mix of authority and anger. “What did we say about using your psychic abilities on school premises?”

Axel’s jaw tightened as he focused on the principal, clearly trying to control him. But the principal merely shook his head, unaffected. “You know that won’t work. I have since learned how to block you out of my mind. You are suspended from playing lacrosse for one week!”

“What?!” Axel exclaimed, genuine despair saturating his features. “You can’t do that. I can’t stay away from playing for one whole week.”

“If you can’t, then you’d better stop breaking the rules!” the principal stated firmly. “Now, apologize to the Alpha King.”

Axel turned to look at my father, reluctantly muttering, “I’m sorry.”

But Father wasn’t even paying attention to him. I trailed his line of sight to see him exchanging heated glares with the Northern Alpha King, none other than Axel’s father. The two of them had a terrible history and were sworn enemies.

Many years ago, before I was born, my father had kidnapped the Northern Luna Queen, a.k.a. the Mother Wolf. He’d intended to keep her for himself and sire a powerful heir. But fortunately for her and unfortunately for him, the Northern Alpha King rescued his Luna, not without having a near-death fight with my father. And according to witnesses, my father had been defeated, and the humiliation had fueled his rage ever since. So, yes, they had a tragic past.

I wondered why my father wanted to be here for Axel’s birthday party, though.

Slowly, the two Alpha Kings moved toward each other, their gazes holding a promise of death. Silence reigned, the room burning with tension.

“Alpha Kings.” The principal stepped between them, darting his gaze between the two of them, saving the day. “We have children present.”

Immediately, the two of them snapped out of it, but the promise of death remained in their eyes. After an intense moment of exchanging glares, the Northern King growled, “It is not over.”

With that, he turned away and walked back to his Luna, holding her in his arms to ease his tension. A bond my parents never shared.

I released a breath I didn’t know I was holding. I thought they were going to tear each other apart right here and right now. I mean, they would’ve if the principal hadn’t intervened.

Music suddenly echoed through the room, breaking the tension as the crowd began to disperse. A hand grabbed mine, and before I knew it, Axel was pulling me toward the dance floor. Not wanting to cause another scene, I quietly followed him.

“Dance with me,” he said, grinning as if the events of the past few minutes hadn’t happened.

Sighing, I nodded in agreement. “Fine. Only because I don’t want to draw any more attention.”

Wrapping his arm around my waist, he pulled me closer, whispering into my ear, “When is your birthday?”

Heat rushed to the pit of my stomach, all the nerves in my body surprisingly dancing at his touch. “What? How is that your business?”

“It’s my business because...” He leaned closer, his lips brushing against my ear as he nuzzled the crook of my neck. “…you’re my mate. And since I can’t play lacrosse because of you, you’ll have to keep me entertained whenever I’m bored. All through the week.”

My eyes widened in shock as I pushed him away.

“What?” I managed to choke out, staring at him in disbelief. “Mate?”

This couldn’t be happening. My worst nightmare.

GIDEON“I thought you’d be rusty by now, but here you are, showing me why you are the Alpha,” Ethan groaned as our swords clashed against each other. We were on the training grounds, training. He had insisted I come with him since I had been too busy to do that lately.“Did you think you could ever beat me?” I didn’t hesitate any further as I knocked the sword out of his hand.A throaty laugh escaped me. “You’d have to train harder to even match me. Which is impossible anyway.”“Bragger!” I could swear I saw him roll his eyes.“Oh, that’s not bragging. It’s simply stating facts,” I chuckled.“Whatever!” He chuckled.“So…” he sighed and planted his hands on his waist, “you got the girl.”“Even when you thought it was impossible.” I retorted.“How could I have known that you were mates? You didn’t tell me. And all I was afraid of was it stirring up trouble. I was afraid the people would go against you!” he said in his defense. It did stir up trouble, with protesters demanding Daisy’s ev

DAISY A wave of relief washed over me as I stared at the body on the ground, soaked in his own blood. But the relief was temporary, knowing that there was a possibility he could rise from the dead again. Gideon flipped the body over, away from my mom. Then he carefully carried her over his shoulders. “Thank you so much,” I muttered with sincerity as I stared at my mate. “You don’t have to thank me, baby. We are in this together,” he said as he turned around and started walking away with her. He stopped, then turned to look at me. “Who’s going to… bathe her?” “I’ll do it,” I quickly said as I followed. She was soaked in that disgusting pig’s blood. Mother suddenly whimpered, and Gideon stopped in his tracks. “Amelia?” he quickly called. “What’s happening? Put me down,” she muttered slowly. He carefully placed her on her feet, though still holding her to steady her balance. “What happened? Why am I soaked in…” she trailed off, her eyes widening when she saw Gabriel’s dead bod

DAISY“Come on,” she muttered softly as she continued walking towards me.I disappeared and appeared behind her back. She flipped around. Irritation crossed her features, but she quickly maintained a neutral expression.“My darling, what’s wrong?”There was something off about her. Something about her eyes. They were so cold. They didn’t stare at me with the warmth my mother would have stared at me with.It was either this wasn’t my mother and was just an illusion, or something had been done to her. Either way, I had to be careful around whoever was standing before me.“Who are you?” I barked out.“Who am I?” She pointed at herself, feigning confusion. “I am your mother. The one who birthed you.”“If you are my mother, then you would know this. What do you always resort to after any bad occurrence that disrupts your mood?”“Ice cream!” she beamed. She raised her brow. “Do you believe me now?”Hearing that response gave me clarity on my confusion. This was truly my mother, but she had

THIRD PERSON POVAlongside Lila, Starlette, and Lucius, a few other clan elders followed. All the witches joined hands while they cast the spell that uncovered the castle. The building was huge and so neatly painted that one wouldn’t even believe it had been abandoned for years. What was inside was nothing like the external appearance. It was filled with rats, bugs, and dust.Everywhere was eerily silent and dark. It didn’t seem like anyone had been living there. They were careful as they navigated through the building, careful not to alert Gabriel of their presence. They began to search all the multiple rooms in the castle, hoping to find something. Anything. They searched and searched, but nothing could be found. Not Gabriel, not Amelia. No one.Starlette pushed the door to the last room in one of the hallways open. She shuddered, and a piercing scream escaped her.“No!” she screamed.Lila and Lucius were beside her moments later.“No. No. No.” Raw pain coated Lucius’ voice as he st

DAISYFather rushed into the room and held me tightly.“We will find her. I swear,” he promised, his pain evident through his tone.“But how?” I croaked out. “We have been looking for Gabriel for a long time now, but every lead is a dead end. How do we find him? How do we find Mother?”“If magic couldn’t find him, technology would.” He pulled away from the hug and flashed his phone screen at me.My eyes narrowed in confusion. “Before she left, she slipped a tracker into her pants pocket. Right now, the tracker says she’s just outside the witches’ land. But there’s nothing or no one there. They must be cloaked. We didn’t know how long you would be out for, so we called Lila to come help us out. She would be here soon,” he explained.Just as he finished talking, two figures appeared before us.Lila, and the former Northern Queen, Starlette.“Starlette? What are you doing here?” Father called in shock.“You called to inform us that my best friend is missing, and you are asking what I am

DAISYIt all made sense now. This explained why the mysterious woman from the Royal Moon Pack’s kitchen tried convincing me to mate and mark Gideon. He needed me to be pregnant for some reason. And disturbingly, he had watched me have sex with Gideon without me realizing. The euphoria had blocked my other senses.“Is that how lonely your life is? Watching us mate and mark each other?” I shot a brow at him.He threw his head back, chuckling darkly. “Daisy, oh Daisy. I didn’t watch you have sex. The evidence is clear,” he pointed at my neck. “You couldn’t mark if you hadn’t mated.”Oh…Anyway, I continued the conversation, trying to stall him while I alerted the others of his presence.“I knew you were evil, but I didn’t know you were such a terrible liar.”“Well, evil and lies come from the same menu. And trust me, I am not lying.”I took a step closer. “Oh, really?”“Gideon, can you hear me?” I mind-linked my mate. Since we had now marked each other, we could communicate this way.“Ye
