VIOLET

My parents picked me up from my dorm room and drove me to the hall where the birthday party was being held—the very last place I wanted to be.

“Violet, darling. How is your first day at school so far?” my mother asked on our way, looking at me expectantly.

“Good,” I simply replied.

She raised her brow. “And your roommate?”

“She’s perfect,” I told her, looking away and peering through the window, hoping she’d drop the conversation. I wasn’t interested in small talk at the moment. I still hated that I had to come to this school and was being forced to attend the birthday party of that boy!

“I trust you’ll blend in perfectly,” Father added.

“Sure.”

We arrived at the venue, and they positioned me between them as we entered. The hall was so huge, filled with overdressed students and their equally overdressed parents, all wearing the same plastic smiles as they mingled. I hated going to functions like this, and I specifically hated being at this particular one.

As we ventured further into the hall, my eyes caught sight of someone, and I froze. The ever-arrogant Alpha prince. My gaze shifted to the girl standing next to him, registering the position the two of them were in. His arms were curled around her shoulders, pulling her in tightly. A strange feeling settled in my chest, and I had the sudden urge to rush over and yank his arm away from her. I closed my eyes, shaking that feeling off. What was wrong with me?

The next time I opened my eyes, he was standing in front of me, gripping my arm and attempting to drag me away.

I quickly caught my arm, glaring at him. “What do you think you are doing?” I hissed.

His expression faltered, confusion clouding his features. “You don’t feel—” He stopped mid-sentence, sighing as though realizing something.

Without another word, he grabbed my wrist and started pulling me with him again. I tried to wrest my hand free, but I couldn’t. He was just too strong.

“Leave me alone!” I yelled.

“What do you think you’re doing?” My father’s voice boomed as he stormed over, yanking Axel’s grip from my arm.

Axel’s eyes glowed red as he turned to look at my father, staring at him intently without saying a word. I knew immediately that he was controlling his mind.

“Yes. You can leave with her.” My father’s face suddenly relaxed, and that was the scariest thing I had ever seen. Axel Northwood really had psychic abilities. Dangerous.

“Axel Northwood!” The commanding voice of the school’s principal, Alpha Richard, cut through the tension as he stepped between us, his expression a mix of authority and anger. “What did we say about using your psychic abilities on school premises?”

Axel’s jaw tightened as he focused on the principal, clearly trying to control him. But the principal merely shook his head, unaffected. “You know that won’t work. I have since learned how to block you out of my mind. You are suspended from playing lacrosse for one week!”

“What?!” Axel exclaimed, genuine despair saturating his features. “You can’t do that. I can’t stay away from playing for one whole week.”

“If you can’t, then you’d better stop breaking the rules!” the principal stated firmly. “Now, apologize to the Alpha King.”

Axel turned to look at my father, reluctantly muttering, “I’m sorry.”

But Father wasn’t even paying attention to him. I trailed his line of sight to see him exchanging heated glares with the Northern Alpha King, none other than Axel’s father. The two of them had a terrible history and were sworn enemies.

Many years ago, before I was born, my father had kidnapped the Northern Luna Queen, a.k.a. the Mother Wolf. He’d intended to keep her for himself and sire a powerful heir. But fortunately for her and unfortunately for him, the Northern Alpha King rescued his Luna, not without having a near-death fight with my father. And according to witnesses, my father had been defeated, and the humiliation had fueled his rage ever since. So, yes, they had a tragic past.

I wondered why my father wanted to be here for Axel’s birthday party, though.

Slowly, the two Alpha Kings moved toward each other, their gazes holding a promise of death. Silence reigned, the room burning with tension.

“Alpha Kings.” The principal stepped between them, darting his gaze between the two of them, saving the day. “We have children present.”

Immediately, the two of them snapped out of it, but the promise of death remained in their eyes. After an intense moment of exchanging glares, the Northern King growled, “It is not over.”

With that, he turned away and walked back to his Luna, holding her in his arms to ease his tension. A bond my parents never shared.

I released a breath I didn’t know I was holding. I thought they were going to tear each other apart right here and right now. I mean, they would’ve if the principal hadn’t intervened.

Music suddenly echoed through the room, breaking the tension as the crowd began to disperse. A hand grabbed mine, and before I knew it, Axel was pulling me toward the dance floor. Not wanting to cause another scene, I quietly followed him.

“Dance with me,” he said, grinning as if the events of the past few minutes hadn’t happened.

Sighing, I nodded in agreement. “Fine. Only because I don’t want to draw any more attention.”

Wrapping his arm around my waist, he pulled me closer, whispering into my ear, “When is your birthday?”

Heat rushed to the pit of my stomach, all the nerves in my body surprisingly dancing at his touch. “What? How is that your business?”

“It’s my business because...” He leaned closer, his lips brushing against my ear as he nuzzled the crook of my neck. “…you’re my mate. And since I can’t play lacrosse because of you, you’ll have to keep me entertained whenever I’m bored. All through the week.”

My eyes widened in shock as I pushed him away.

“What?” I managed to choke out, staring at him in disbelief. “Mate?”

This couldn’t be happening. My worst nightmare.

VIOLETAxel and I had cuddled together all night and it was the best feeling ever. The following morning, someone started banging on Axel’s door loudly. My heart dropped to my stomach, hoping it wasn’t someone my dad had sent. I wondered if he, by any way, sent guards to secretly watch me.Axel woke up from his sleep, a hard frown on his face.“Who the fuck is that?” he groaned as he threw off the duvet from our bodies and marched to the door. Aggressively opening the door, Daisy appeared behind it.“I knew it. You had to be here!” she squealed as she ran past Axel, rushing over to me and jumping on my body. “I saw your stuff in the room and I knew you were around.”“Daisy.” I beamed, wrapping my arms around her. “How have you been?”“Fine,” she said as she pulled away from the hug and looked at me. “You look as beautiful as ever. I have missed you so much.”A wide smile spread across my lips. “I have missed you too.”“Come on. Let’s go back to our room so that we can catch up on ever

VIOLETAfter I woke up from the drug-induced unconsciousness, my father finally agreed that I could return to the academy to complete my education. He did have a tad bit of care within him after all. I knew he only allowed me to return because he wanted me to be close to Axel so I wouldn’t die, though he never admitted that. Before I left, he strongly warned me to reject him and put an end to the mate bond nonsense. What he didn’t know was that a rejection might even kill me faster than being away from him. Our love, our mate bond, might be somewhat forbidden, but I was never going to reject him. I didn’t know how we could make it possible, but I wanted to be with him forever. We just have to find a way around it. When I got to the school and realized he had not resumed yet, I decided to surprise him by waiting for him in his dorm room, and the shock on his face when he saw me was all worth it. He rubbed his eyes with the back of his hand, blinking repeatedly. “Am I dreaming? Is

AXEL My chest kept tightening, my heart beating really hard against my chest. I kept sweating profusely. I wasn’t feeling well. I knew that all this was as a result of being away from my mate. I knew I needed to see her for this to stop. I missed her so much, and I couldn’t wait to see her again. We were to resume the academy today, and I was getting my stuff ready. I just hoped Silas would allow her to resume the academy, else I didn’t know how to be without her. Daisy was also back to the pack, and we were to be taken back to the academy together with Indie and Mason. Indie has fully recovered now. When I finished, I joined them outside where they were already waiting.“Hello, young Alpha,” Indie said with a wide smile on her face as she wrapped her arms around me. “Are you excited for the last days at Equinox Academy?”“That’s right. The both of you won’t spend much time with us anymore,” Daisy said and sighed.I turned to look at her and chuckled. “Is that you saying you’ll m

VIOLETMy head and body ached so badly. What happened to me? I wondered as I slowly opened my eyes. White walls surrounded me, and the smell of antiseptic filled my nose. I was in the hospital. My mother, who was beside my bedside, became alert when she saw me. “Oh, thank goodness!” she beamed. “How do you feel now?”“What happe—” Before I could complete my statement, memories of what happened flooded my mind. I went into severe heat and fainted. But why would I faint from heat?Moments later, the door opened and the doctor walked in; my dad followed.“How are you?” my father asked immediately, pretending as if he cared when he didn’t give a damn about me.“I don’t know,” I responded honestly. The doctor checked my vitals on the machine connected to me before looking at me.“Can you still feel the heat?” he asked me.“No,” I responded. He nodded. “That’s because we have given you something that helped with it.”“Is she okay now?” Father quickly asked him.“For now,” the doctor said.

VIOLET Beep.A notification came in, and I picked up my phone to check it. I had been using one of my mom’s old phones since I couldn’t find mine. I had logged into my email on the phone. The new email sent was from the academy.“Dear Miss Violet, We are delighted to announce to you that the school will be reopening on May 13th. We at the Equinox Academy will be expecting you then. Yours faithfully, Alpha Richard.”Excitement washed over me after reading the content of the email. I could finally return to school! I could finally be with Axel again!I had been feeling too lazy to even get up from my bed before, but upon seeing such good news, a flood of energy washed over me. Without hesitation, I jumped out of bed and rushed to my father’s office where I suspected he would be.He was there.“Dad!” I beamed as I approached him.I had not genuinely smiled at him since I returned to the pack, but right now, I couldn’t control my happiness. He dropped what he was doing immediately a

AXELIt’s been two weeks since Chloe disappeared, and she had not been found despite our desperate attempts to locate her. Aunt Amelia even performed a location spell, as she did with the other missing girls, but it was as if the girl never existed. It was really heartbreaking to see the parents of those innocent girls mourn their kids.A lot had happened within the two weeks. Daisy had gone to the witches’ land, as her mother wanted her there for some reason. So, that meant I couldn’t go back to see Violet. I missed her so much. I couldn’t wait to have her in my arms again. I would try with everything in me to make sure we were back together again.I had spent those two weeks training with my dad and looking after Indie. She was recovering beautifully. She could talk now, though she could barely complete a sentence without wincing in pain. I was just glad that she regained her talking abilities and didn’t become mute forever as a result of the injury. She would be discharged today,
