The shock on their faces was loud. Embarrassment engulfed my entire being. Fuck. No. This wasn’t supposed to happen.

“Daisy?” My mother was the first to speak as she stepped inside. She had a questioning and disappointed look on her face.

While embarrassment and frustration consumed my entire being, Gideon looked completely composed, as if we hadn’t just been caught doing what we weren’t supposed to.

I raked my fingers through my hair. “It’s really not what you think it is,” I said in a desperate attempt to defend myself.

“I know that Aldric is an asshole, which I am going to kill him for. But...” My father sighed exasperatedly, disappointment evident in his tone and features, “being like this with someone else’s fiancé?”

Jadis suddenly showed up behind them, her eyes filling up with tears. “What do you mean by that? Did they make out?” her voice croaked out.

Everyone’s attention turned to her, and they looked at her with pity.

“Oh, no,” she cried before waltzing away.
