Funny how I've never thought of finding or having a mate. I've been so preoccupied with my revenge plot to give attention to anyone who might not be so lucky to be my future mate, and moon goddess forbids that I have my mate from this pack. The person had better be dead.

Evie, who had given me more details about the mating ceremony, had tagged along with her friend, and I was left alone in the yard. I was done with my chores and was about to lift the bucket which I had used in carrying the clothes for spreading when I heard a peal of laughter, then saw Elara and Kaiden walking hand-in-hand.

My heart skipped a beat!

I hid behind the clothes I spread on the line to conceal myself. I moved the cloth to the side a bit to spy on Elara and Kaiden. They looked so perfect together, almost like a couple.

Elara was bright and full of energy, while Kaiden had a small smile on his face and even let out a charming chuckle at whatever she said to him.
