Chapter Five: Breach

The alarm bell shattered the morning silence.

Raven was on her feet before it finished ringing, Nightfire waking in a rush beneath her skin, Shadow lifting its head within her with a low, hungry growl.

Outside, the ground shook, the walls of Shadowstorm trembling as thunder rumbled in the distance.

Ragnar was already armored, lightning crackling around his hands as he met Raven’s eyes. “They’re here.”

She didn’t need to ask who.

They reached the gates just as the first wave hit.

Black shapes moved in the mist, crawling and slithering, too many limbs, jaws filled with jagged teeth. Their red eyes glowed like coals in the fog as they hurled themselves at the barricades, claws tearing at the wood and iron.

Thorne’s wolves fired arrows and swung axes, holding the line as best they could, but the creatures climbed over each other, heedless of injury, shrieking as they clawed toward the pack.

Lightning flashed, and two creatures exploded into ash, Ragnar’s stor

  • The Alpha Queen and her Human Mate   The Hollow’s Bargain

Chapter 32 – The Hollow’s BargainThe storm outside raged like it mirrored the chaos inside Raven’s chest. Thunder cracked across the mountains, shaking the packhouse walls, but it was nothing compared to the trembling she felt beneath her skin. The Hollow hadn’t been destroyed last night. She could still sense it, lurking, waiting its whispers bleeding into her thoughts whenever she let her guard slip.Ragnar’s hand brushed hers where they sat at the war table. His warmth was a tether she hadn’t realized she needed until now. Every council member’s gaze seemed fixed on her, sharp and unyielding. They could smell uncertainty, and they circled like vultures.Beta Luca leaned closer, voice low so only she could hear. “They’re stalling, waiting for you to crack.”Raven’s jaw tightened. “Then they’ll wait forever.”But even as the words left her lips, the shadows in the far corner of the room shifted. Her wolf bristled instantly, ears pricking to an unseen sound. Ragnar’s grip on he

  • The Alpha Queen and her Human Mate   The One She Can’t Kill

Chapter 31 — The One She Can’t Kill The Hollow didn’t wait until dawn. By the time Raven had finished assigning the night watch, the air had changed thick, pressing, carrying that same damp cold she’d felt at the treeline. The guards patrolling outside didn’t notice it at first, but her wolf did. The beast in her chest was pacing, ears flat, sensing an approach that wasn’t made by footsteps. Inside the packhouse, Ragnar stood by the main window, watching the dark. “It’s learning the shape of this place.” She didn’t like how certain he sounded. “What does that mean?” “It means walls won’t matter soon.” Her stomach tightened. She glanced at Luca. “Double every entrance guard. I don’t care if it’s a broom closet if it opens, it gets a guard.” Luca nodded and strode out, barking orders. Raven stayed by the window, eyes sweeping the forest. For hours, nothing moved. The only sound was the crackle of the fire in the hearth and the low murmur of sentries changing shifts. Then th

  • The Alpha Queen and her Human Mate   Marked

Chapter 30 — MarkedThe whisper clung to her even after they’d cleared the ridge. It wasn’t loud, it didn’t need to be. It threaded into her mind like a splinter under the skin, impossible to ignore.Raven…She didn’t flinch, didn’t let her pack see it had gotten under her skin. But her wolf paced restlessly in her chest, hackles raised.Back at the packhouse, Luca had the warriors double the perimeter guard. The men were tense, eyes flicking toward the trees as though expecting the forest itself to move.Ragnar stayed at the edge of the clearing, leaning against the shadow of an old pine, his expression unreadable. She wanted to demand answers, but not here. Not where ears could listen.“Luca, keep them sharp,” she ordered. “No one goes alone, not even for water.”“Yes, Alpha.”When they finally retreated into the war room, she rounded on Ragnar. “What did it do to me?”His gaze lifted slowly to meet hers. “It didn’t do anything yet.”“Yet?” she snapped.“You crossed its boundary

  • The Alpha Queen and her Human Mate   The Hollow

Chapter 29 — The HollowThe forest beyond the western ridge was quieter than Raven expected. No wind. No night birds. Even the crunch of their boots on the frozen earth sounded swallowed, dampened by something in the air.Luca led the pack warriors in a loose V formation, their eyes scanning the shadows. Ragnar moved beside Raven, his posture relaxed, but his hand never strayed far from the knife at his hip.“This place feels wrong,” Luca muttered.“It is,” Ragnar said simply. They passed the old stone marker that split their territory from the deep woods. The trees here were older, their twisted trunks wide enough to swallow a cabin whole. Faint lines of pale moss ran up their bark like veins.Raven’s wolf was alert, every sense stretched taut. We are being watched.“How far?” she asked Ragnar quietly. He glanced up at the sky, where moonlight barely filtered through the dense canopy. “Closer than it feels.”Minutes later, the path dipped into a shallow ravine, and she saw it.The

  • The Alpha Queen and her Human Mate   Bloodlines and Burdens

Chapter 28 — Bloodlines and BurdensThe meeting hall was silent except for the faint creak of the old timbers above.Outside, the storm had grown into a restless wind that rattled the shutters, as if even the forest was listening.Raven leaned forward in her chair at the head of the table, her hands steepled. Ragnar stood a few paces away, the firelight cutting sharp lines across his face.“You’ve been holding back,” she said. It wasn’t a question. He didn’t deny it. “You weren’t ready to hear the rest.”Her wolf bristled. “If they’re hunting me, I was already ready.”For a long moment, Ragnar didn’t move. Then he took a breath and stepped closer. “The Blood Oath doesn’t hunt at random. Every strike, every death… it’s ritual. They’re bound by vows older than any council. Bloodlines are their currency, and they collect debts written in the marrow of a family tree.”She felt a flicker of unease. “You’re saying this is about my family.”“I’m saying they’ve hunted your line before.” Hi

  • The Alpha Queen and her Human Mate   The First Strike

.Chapter 27 — The First StrikeThe sound came again, closer this time, a warping howl threaded with a wet, gurgling rasp, like something breathing through torn lungs.Raven froze mid-step. Every warrior instinct she had sharpened at once. The forest was silent except for the wind pushing through the black pines, but she knew that quiet wasn’t natural.Ragnar shifted his weight, his voice barely a whisper. “That’s not one of the scavenger-beasts. That’s it calling to the rest.”Her gaze cut through the trees. “How many?”“If it’s a full hunt pack,” he murmured, “six beasts… maybe more.”Her wolf surged to the surface, muscles coiling for the fight. “Then we end them here.”“Raven....” Ragnar’s tone held warning, but it was too late. She’d already stepped forward, scenting the wind. The stench hit her first—rot, metal, and something oily that clung to the back of her throat. Her vision shifted, the world sharpening into the crisp, predatory clarity of her wolf’s sight. From the darkn
