Mag-log inđ Chapter Two: The Scent of Fate
Raven couldnât get the scent out of her head. It clung to her clothes, followed her into her quarters, lingered in the hallways of the compound long after she had scrubbed the blood from her hands and tossed her blade onto the table. Sandalwood. Rain..................... Human. She sighed to herself Mate shadow growled. She paced her room like a caged animal, her boots scuffing the worn wooden floor, her golden eyes glowing in the low lantern light. Outside, the moon hung heavy, pulling at her wolf, reminding her of what she had seen. Those storm gray eyes. That lost, startled look on his face as the bond snapped into place between them. Human. It was impossible. Unacceptable. And yet, her wolf shadow growled low inside her every time she thought of him, demanding she seek him out, demanding she claim him. what am I going to do she said to herself. "Claim him" growled Shadow. A sharp knock at the door snapped her from her spiraling thoughts. Luca stepped in, his gaze cool and assessing, leaning casually against the frame. âYouâre rattling the pack with all this pacing,â he said with a smirk. She shot him a glare, but he only smirked, pushing off the door and stepping closer. âYou felt it, didnât you?â Luca asked, tilting his head, dark hair falling into his sharp eyes. "What?" she growled âThe mate bond.â he said with a curious look. Raven clenched her jaw, turning away, staring out the window into the dark treeline beyond the compoundâs walls. âItâs nothing,â she snapped. âItâs a distraction.â Luca snorted. âNothing? Raven, your scent changed the moment you saw him. Every wolf within a mile knows what happened.â She spun around, eyes glowing dangerously. âHeâs human, Luca. Do you understand what that means?â Lucaâs smirk faded, replaced with concern but understanding. âThe council will use it against you. The rogues will see it as weakness............. âAnd I canât afford weakness,â she finished for him, her voice low. Silence settled between them, heavy with unspoken truths. She had faught her way to the top, fought to rule, fought to keep her pack safe. Everything she had was built on her strength, her fearlessness, her refusal to bend, and the respect she gets from her pack and surrounding packs. And now the Goddess dared to send her a human mate. âRaven,â Luca said carefully, âwhat are you going to do?â She didnât answer immediately, pressing her hand to the cool windowpane, the moonlight painting her scars silver. She remembered the way the bond had felt, like lightning under her skin, like something ancient and undeniable awakening inside her. Could she reject it? Could she deny herself the mate bond, even if it meant preserving her rule? The thought of turning away from him made something inside her ache. She closed her eyes, forcing the feeling down. "Iâm going to do what I always do,â she said finally, her voice steady, cold. âI will protect this pack. No matter what.â Luca sighed softly, nodding once. âThen we watch our borders. We prepare for whatever comes.â That night, sleep refused to come. She stood on the balcony outside her room, the cold wind whipping her hair around her face, the scent of pine and frost sharp in her lungs. Somewhere out there, he was probably asleep, blissfully unaware of the war he had started inside her. Unaware that the bond between them was something that could shatter worlds, could tear her apart, could make her stronger or destroy everything she had built. Raven gripped the railing, claws digging into the wood as her wolf rumbled low in her chest. Would she claim him? Could she allow herself to have him? And if she did⌠would the world survive them?Chapter 52 â The Price of PowerRagnar didnât think. He didnât breathe. He didnât hesitate. The moment Seleneâs claws closed around Ravenâs throat, something inside him tore open. Not snappedâshattered. The storm that had always lived in his blood surged past restraint, past fear, past what his human body was ever meant to hold.Lightning exploded from him.Not outward.Through him.His veins burned white-hot. His bones screamed. His heart thundered like a breaking sky as Ragnar sprinted straight at Selene, storm trailing his steps like a living beast. The ground fractured beneath his feet, unable to hold the force pouring out of him.âRagnarâ!â Luca shouted, but his voice vanished beneath the roar of thunder.Selene turned, amused, Raven still suspended in her grip, blood dripping down her wrist. Ravenâs vision blurred, air failing her lungs, Shadow clawing desperately inside her chest. Nightfire sputtered, desperate but restrained by the lack of oxygen.Fight, Shadow urged. We are n
Chapter 51 When Stormâs BreakThe sky was on fire.Ragnar fought with his head tilted back, eyes tracking the silver inferno raging above the battlefield. Raven and Selene tore through the air like opposing gods, flame and shadow crashing in blinding collisions that rattled his bones.Every impact made his chest tighten.Every time Raven vanished into smoke, his heart stuttered.A serpent lunged from the dark. Ragnar barely twisted in time, his blade slicing through its skull as lightning burst from his grip. The creature dissolved into black ash, but three more replaced it instantly.âEyes up, Ragnar!â Luca shouted.Ragnar ducked as a shadow-blade swept past his head, close enough to slice his hair. He pivoted, storm coiling through his arms, and slammed lightning into the ground. The earth exploded outward, shredding serpents and darkness alike. But Seleneâs power kept regenerating. It wasnât natural. It was endless.Ragnar panted, sweat and blood slicking his skin. Around him, Shad
Chapter 50 Inferno and Shadow The night burned. Silver fire blazed from Ravenâs body, scorching a circle around her as Seleneâs shadow-wings unfurled to their full span, swallowing the battlefield in suffocating darkness. The ground split beneath their feet, fire and shadow tearing through the earth in violent pulses, as if the land itself could not withstand the clash of their powers. Selene descended, serpents striking like a storm of spears. Raven met them with her fire, each strike igniting the air in bursts of molten silver. The heat scorched her lungs, her skin cracked and bleeding, but she refused to fall. âYou are not enough,â Selene hissed, her voice layered with ancient venom. Her shadow lashed forward, striking Raven across the chest and sending her skidding through the dirt. Blood sprayed from the wound, sizzling against her flames. Raven staggered to her knees, flames flickering weakly. Shadow snarled inside her mind, her wolf pushing against the pain, refusing to
.Chapter 49 â The Unveiling The battlefield stilled for the briefest moment, as though the earth itself held its breath. Ravenâs chest heaved, silver fire still smoldering across her skin. Around her, the wolves tightened their battered circle, bloodied but unbroken. Ragnar stood tall despite the crimson streaks across his armor, while Luca crouched low in his wolf form, growl rumbling from deep within his chest. They had survived Seleneâs onslaught. But only barely. And then the air shifted. The shadows that had been writhing at Seleneâs feet began to crawl up her body, clinging to her like living armor. Her charred flesh knit itself back together with a sickening hiss, her wounds closing as black scales spread over her skin. The serpents atop her head shrieked in chorus, their forms lengthening, splitting, until they writhed like a crown of hydra. âWhat is she doing?â one wolf whispered, his voice trembling. Seleneâs smile widened, too sharp, too inhuman. Her eyes glowed b
Chapter 48 â Shattered Lines The clearing had become a graveyard of flame and shadow. Every breath Raven took filled her lungs with smoke and blood, the heat of her own fire scorching her skin as much as her enemies. She and Selene clashed again and again, each strike rattling the earth beneath them, silver flame and venom colliding in bursts of light and darkness. But the war wasnât theirs alone. At the edges of the circle, Ragnarâs blade tore through serpents with relentless precision. His armor was streaked in black blood, his shoulders heaving, but his eyes never left Raven for long. He fought with the desperate fury of a man who knew his queen was inches from being torn apart. âHold the line!â Ragnar roared, his voice carrying over the din. Luca answered with a feral howl, his wolf form a blur of claws and teeth. He ripped through one shadow-serpent, only for two more to coil around his legs, dragging him down. Snarling, he tore free, but not before venom seared across his
Chapter 47 â Fire and SerpentsThe world exploded into chaos.Ravenâs flames blazed across the clearing, cutting through the mist and forcing Seleneâs horde back. The silver fire licked along the ground, weaving through roots and stone, swallowing shadow-beasts whole. The smell of scorched flesh filled the air, but still the creatures pressed forward, driven by Seleneâs command.Ragnarâs blade rose and fell beside her, each strike cutting a path through the writhing serpents. Lucaâs howl rang out above the din, rallying the wolves as they surged tighter, pressing Seleneâs army into the noose Raven had drawn around them. And still at the heart of it all Selene stood untouched. Her eyes glowed like twin suns of molten amber. Her serpentine crown hissed, each snake striking at the air, their venom sizzling where it hit Ravenâs fire. With a slow, deliberate step, she entered the circle of flame Raven had drawn, her aura a tide that bent the shadows toward her.âYou think your tricks w
