Chapter Thirty-Six: Broken Oaths

The air was heavy with smoke and frost as dawn rose over the compound.

Warriors moved quietly, tending to wounds, repairing barricades, cleaning blood from blades in silence, broken only by the crackle of the fire.

Raven moved among them, checking injuries, offering a word or a touch of reassurance, Shadow a comforting purr beneath her skin.

Nico and Maya helped carry water and blankets, the boy they had saved clutching a mug of broth, eyes wide but watching everything with quiet awe.

They were pack now.

Ragnar found Raven in the training yard, her hands wrapped as she helped a young warrior correct his stance despite the bruise blooming on her ribs.

“You’re supposed to be resting,” Ragnar murmured, stepping close.

“So are you,” she countered, not resisting as he slid his arm around her waist, steadying her.

“Loki can take drills,” Ragnar said softly. “Come with me.”

She hesitated, then nodded, letting him guide her toward the treeline, away from curio

Chapter Thirty-Nine: Silver and Fire The first scent of them came with the dawn breeze—ash, burned oil, and the cold, sharp bite of silver. Raven stood at the window of her chambers, eyes on the treeline as the sun rose pale over frost-laced earth. Shadow was calm beneath her skin, watchful, waiting. Behind her, Ragnar finished strapping on his blades, lightning flickering around his wrists, his storm quiet but ready. “They’ll come at sunrise,” he murmured. “They always do,” Raven replied softly. In the courtyard, her warriors and Thorne’s wolves stood together, weapons in hand, lines of tension etched into their faces. Loki adjusted a crossbow over his shoulder, Luca checking the barricades one final time. Nico stood near the children, a blade strapped awkwardly to his hip, Maya clutching his hand, eyes wide but dry. “You stay with them,” Raven told Nico, resting a hand on his shoulder. “I will,” Nico promised, his jaw set. The first shot rang out, splitting the morning air

  • The Alpha Queen and her Human Mate   The Scent in the Wind

Chapter Thirty-Eight: The Scent in the WindThe frost was sharp underfoot as Raven walked the borders before dawn, the world cloaked in a soft grey hush.Shadow was restless, ears pricked, gold flickering in Raven’s eyes as she inhaled deeply.There.A scent in the wind. Not a rogue. Not the council.Something older.Something was wrong. It smelled of cold metal, charred wood, and iron—a scent that made Shadow’s legs rise and a growl curl in Raven’s throat.Ragnar joined her, silent in the dawn, lightning flickering softly around him as he scanned the treeline.“You smell it too,” he said.“I do.”They stood together, storm and shadow, watching as the wind stirred the branches.A lone crow cawed, lifting into the grey sky.Ragnar’s hand brushed Raven’s, grounding her. “Whatever it is, we’ll handle it.”Raven nodded, her eyes scanning the horizon. “We always do.”Back at the compound, the pack was already awake, training despite the cold. Thorne’s wolves worked beside Raven’s warriors,

  • The Alpha Queen and her Human Mate   New Blood

Chapter Thirty-Seven: New Blood The compound felt different with the rogues inside its borders. The warriors watched from the corners of the yard, weapons within reach, as Thorne’s people unpacked what little they carried. Blankets were distributed, food shared, but the air was tight, heavy with the scent of wariness and fear. Some of Raven’s pack grumbled quietly, casting dark looks at the newcomers, whispers of “thieves” and “ferals” drifting in the cold air. Raven heard them all. Shadow stirred, restless, but Raven stood calm, eyes steady, her presence a quiet command. Maya walked between the new arrivals, her stuffed rabbit clutched under her arm, peering up at them with wide eyes. “Are you hungry?” she asked a girl sitting near the fire, her hair matted, arms wrapped around her knees. The girl looked up, startled, before nodding shyly. Maya hurried away, returning with a bowl of steaming stew, holding it out with a small, proud smile. The girl took it, tears brimming, he

She watched the young warriors spar with wide eyes, bouncing on her toes as if itching to join.Raven knelt beside her, Shadow warm beneath her skin.“You want to learn?” she asked.Maya’s eyes darted up, cautious but bright. “Can girls learn, too?”Raven smiled softly. “Girls can definitely learn.”Maya grinned, a gap where a tooth had fallen out showing, clutching her rabbit tighter.Nearby, Nico stood with Luca, who was showing him how to hold a training blade. His movements were awkward, but there was a determined set to his jaw as he mimicked the stances, sweat beading on his forehead in the cold morning.Ragnar stepped up beside Nico, correcting his grip gently, lightni
