Whatever was going on, Nyssa was lost.

She stood at the main entrance, gazing at the man who wanted to use her for meat. Why the hell did he change his mind? She had heard the other man tell some men to proceed with the killings.

Excluding her.

They cleaned her up, changing her from the rags she had been wearing for long, to this - a better dress - the kind a Palace maid would wear.

What did these people want with her?

“What's your name?” The wicked man asked.

She looked up, snapped out of her thoughts. “I don't owe you that piece of information, do I?” She looked at the other man who brought her here. “Ask your man to take me back to that room. I'd rather be used as meat than answer his questions.” She tried to move away, but Bastian did a good job bringing her back to the spot.

“Why do I care?” Alpha Zevran let out.

He didn't care what her name was. He had in fact, wanted to implement it in his rejection speech - but it didn't matter that much. He adjusted.

Nyssa watched his wicked eyes.

He gazed at her. She couldn't deny, however - he was a handsome man with a good physique. But what was that supposed to even change?

All that mattered to her was her fate.

What was he about to do with her?

Zevran, after so much thought, opened his mouth. “I, King of The Stormveil Pack, am rejecting you on this day. I shall have nothing - absolutely nothing at all to do with you. You and I shall share no bond, we shall share no love or even affection.”

OK?

Now what the hell was happening?

Nyssa pondered on the words he said. She looked at the other man, confused. “Is this what your Alpha does to people he'd use as meat? I'm not sure what is happening here if you asked me.”

The Alpha chuckled.

“Did you see that, Bastian?” He called his beta. “She's so Omega she doesn't know what's going on. How can I be with a woman like this?” He faced Nyssa now. “You don't understand what just happened, do you? I shall be willing to—”

“I don't understand—” She cut him short. “First you were going to use me as meat, next I'm taken out of that room and brought to yours. Then you sing me your rejection speech - what is going on?”

“You amaze me with how you sound.” The Alpha resumed. He looked around the room before facing her. “I wonder how weak you are - how finished you are that you can't see what is happening. Omega wolves feel, how can't you?” He got up and paced the space, worry written on his face. “Why will the moon goddess punish me with someone like you? Thalia was better.”

“What do—do you even mean?”

“How insufferable can you be? How can't you see you and I are mates and I have just rejected the bond we share? Who the fuck are you?”

These words simmered into her head.

It felt like a dream. A good and a bad dream.

“Wh—what did you just say to me?”

Zevran scoffed as he returned to his seat. “What?” Her mouth opened as she threw him another question. How did she not know?

Last she checked, Omega wolves could feel it when they met their mates. What now?

And why would the moon goddess be so unkind to her? Mating her with a man as wicked as this one. Someone who almost used her for meat. Nyssa wasn't even certain he wouldn't end up eating her. They hate each other - so much.

Mate?

Mate?!

Unbelievable.

She needed some time to herself. But how much time did Nyssa even have? One glance at the Alpha, she glanced at the other man whom she concluded was his beta. The urge to escape was more than overwhelming - but she couldn't just leave. Not when she had questions for him.

“I am your mate—”

“Was, woman. Not any longer.”

“Was?” She cried. “It is you who have taken me against my will. I do not wish to be under the same roof as you. Why will you even reject me?!”

“Are you seriously asking me that?”

“Yes—why?”

“Why not?” Alpha Zevran asked.

At this point, there was anger on his countenance. He hated it that she still talked to him like he was her mate. What the hell was wrong with her? Who was she? Why didn't she tell him where she came from? “You have the guts to speak to me however you like but you can't see the point?”

Nyssa wondered again, but she didn't see it.

“You're weak, woman—” The Alpha spells it out. “A man like me should not be affiliated with a woman like you. Over my dead body.” He got up and paced the space. “You're also very lucky we shared a bond we no longer share. You have the right to live again, rather than being used for meat.” He smiled, sat back down, and resumed. “Now, you shall tell me the truth. What is your name and where do you come from, woman?”

Nyssa shook her head. “I don't know.”

That's what he thought she would say. Especially now that she knows she may have an upper hand because of the bond they share. “Right—” The Alpha muttered after thinking. “Your name isn't as important as you think it is, you know? This is because you're about to work under me - as my personal maid. ‘Maid’ is a good name for you.”

“I am not going to be your maid—”

“That's where you're getting it all wrong.”

He scoffed as he glanced at Beta Bastian who was watching. “Have my personal maid's room arranged. The woman shall be my own maid from this moment - under my watch only.”

“Yes, my lord. Anything else?”

“She resumes work tonight.” He smiled. “Order the head of the maids to put her through.”

“I am not going to become your maid.”

“You don't have a choice, maid.” Again, he laughs.

***

The door to a room opened.

Just as the Alpha announced, this room was right next to his. “This is your new room.” Bastian announced. “You should take a bath.”

Before she could raise any questions, he was on his way out. Nyssa simply looked, inspecting this new space as she looked around - moving from corner to corner. There were two windows - unlike the room she was forced to live in back in The Silvermoon Pack - there was no window in it.

After a thorough inspection, Nyssa caught up with the bathroom door - a towel she snatched from the closet in her hand. She took a bath not long ago, but another one seemed necessary.

Washing the meeting with that man off her body seemed like an important ritual to do.

Unbelievable. He was her mate.

A man she hated so much, even though he saved her life. What different was he from a beast?

Someone who used humans as meat.

What would have been her fate if she weren't his mate? This puzzle was something she tried to solve as Nyssa led her way out of the bathroom.

“Hello.” Someone was in the room with her.

Snapping out of her thoughts, Nyssa looked up. Behold, a woman in uniform - holding a tray. “My name is Agnes. I'm the head of the maids in this pack. This is food. For you, before you begin.”

Instantly, Nyssa shook her head.

“No. I'm not hungry.”

“You haven't eaten since you got here, my lady.”

“I'm still not hungry—” She caught up with the closet, muttering. “I'd rather die than eat human meat. Tell that to your Alpha when you see him.”

“No, no—” Agnes shook her head. “It's not human meat. Every other person eats animal meat, save the Alpha. Unless he offers you, of course. But this is not the case here.” She walked over to the bedside, dropped the tray, and walked back to the entrance. “I'd be back in two hours. You should be done eating by then. There are things you should know - what to do and when to do them.”

Nyssa nodded.

Ignoring the fact that she needed a dress, she sat on the bed after picking up the tray. Agnes was on her way out when she recalled. “There's something I'd like to ask, Lady Agnes.” Her words caused the older lady to turn around. “I'd like to know where I am, and who that man - your Alpha is. Everyone has said anything but not his name.”

“Oh, sure.” Agnes walked back into the room.

A smile plastered on her face, she let it out. “You're in The Stormveil Pack. The strongest Pack in the whole of the West. You may not know but the man you encountered - the Alpha of this pack, is the strongest Alpha alive. Alpha Zevran is his name. Many refer to him as The Heartless Alpha.”

Nyssa choked on her meal.

Or could he not see what this place had done to her? She would like to askhim this, but the last thing she wanted to take was chances.“I'm alright. Thank you. What do you want?”Bastian moved closer. He looked around as though it was his first time in this place.“Alpha Zevran hasasked me to take you out. Only if the conversation you two had is still valid. Whatdo you say, Emilia?”Before he could complete the last sentence, Nyssa had already nodded. She woulddo anything - absolutely anything to leave this darkness.“I already promised to beof good behavior.” She spoke now.“Let the Alpha know how willing I am to dowhat is right by him. I swear on my life.”“Good.” He snapped his fingers now.And two men moved closer.“Op

“Did you find her?”“No, my lord.” The head guard in The Silvermoon Pack answered with a bow as heknelt.“We have toiled for days without finding the woman's body.”Alpha Duskryn smiled.Although he hoped they found the woman, he was more than happy that this wasthe news.“I see.” He smiled again, relaxing his back against the hard chair.“Wildwolves have eaten her, obviously.” There was pity on his face for a moment - but itvanished the next time he looked up.“That should be all for now. Although there wasn't anymeeting he had planned to have - he needed some time to himself. Away from theLuna and their daughter.“This is good news.”Indeed, it was good news.More than just good news. A piece of news he could not wait to tell his familyabout. Emilia had been worried the former princess might return at any moment, and he had tried to tell her several times t

Instantly, she froze.Zevran, from where he stood, could see nothing but the shock she had on her face.“You didn't think I would catch you trying to escape from my pack, did you?” He letout a scoff as he walked closer.“Go on. I won't disturb you.”Embarrassed, Nyssa stopped trying. At least, for now.Beads of sweat filled her face. She had been busy - trying to look for a way all herlife; since she was brought into this pack. And now that she had, this man had stillmanaged to sabotage her plans. How did he know?“I asked you to continue, Emilia.”“I can't.” She snapped.“I don't even see a way—” Her frustrated self could not holdit back.“Why?” Tears gathered around her eyes. She looked at the space again.“Idon't want to be here. Let me go.”No way she just said that to him.How dramatic! Zevran thought. He let her live after finding out she's his mate, eventhough the plan was to eat her; use her for meat.“You're such an ungratefulbastard.” He moved, heading in her di

He was seated in one of the chairs, waiting. As the hall door opened, he looked up. A sigh of relief escaped his mouth while she led her way in. “Finally. Look at her.” He gestured to Thalia who was seated with him at the table. As before, she was still mad that he didn't tell her about this lady. “I don't know what else to say to you, Thalia. I am sorry I forgot to mention it to you—” A sigh escaped his mouth. “Let's discuss it later, mm?” “Of course, Zevran.” She scoffed. The Alpha smiled. Besides Bastian, only Thalia had the right to refer to him by his name. She was his first mate, a woman he loved to an extent. But to live, he had to do what was needed by rejecting the bond. And they still did everything mates normally do. Except for acceptance. “Your meal is ready—” “Did you bring some for my lady?” “You didn't tell me I will add her platter to—” “Are you saying there's not more in the pot, maid?” Zevran ignored his wolf's growling and concentrated on criticizing her

  • The Alpha Who Rejected.   Chapter 7 - The Gate.

As a new day started, Nyssa was up. Just as the head of the maids asked, she was up and ready to go about her day. In her mind, she knew what she was after. Of course, she didn't give a fuck about the mad Alpha. Not one fuck. Everything she was doing was one way to find a route of escape. She wasn't awake when she was shipped into the Pack - else, she would know one or two ways to run away. “Good morning, Lady Emilia.” An ordinary maid who walked past her room, greeted with a bow. Nyssa could only nod as her thoughts were occupied - she needed to think. Her legs stopped moving when she got there. The door leading to and fro the Alpha's chamber. “Good morning. I have come to attend to the Alpha's needs.” She told the man who watched the door. “This is the time to clean his chamber.” The man didn't speak. He only nodded and opened the door, walking in to do something before coming back to let her in. “Don't wake them.” He mouthed before she completely got in. “The Alpha doesn't

Of all the people she expected Agnes to mention. Not this one. The meal hung in her throat as she tried to process what she just heard. Maybe - just maybe she didn't hear correctly. Nyssa looked up at the head of the maids who waited while smiling. “What did you say?” “Alpha Zevran, my lady. This is his Palace.” Fuck no. The older woman repeated the same words she assumed she hadn't correctly heard. “The Heartless Alpha.” Nyssa opened her mouth, swallowing crumbs of meat that hung in her throat. “The wicked Alpha Zevran.” She looked at the woman who was confused. “I'd be back to lecture you, my lady.” And she was left alone - to and with her thoughts. This couldn't be. It just could not be. Did the moon goddess remember who this man is and what he did to her so many years ago? Zevran, her parents’ killer. The same man who caused the war that took their lives - and started her misery. What was she doing in his Pack? How did she get here? Definitely, it wasn't fate. It co
